Great sleeping bags for several temperatures

The sleeping bag set provides good coverage for a range of temperatures. While the carry sack is larger due to two bags in one, this is outweighed (pun intended) by having two bags for a variety of temperatures. Concerning the carry sack itself, it should be sufficient for local travel, but I wouldn’t trust it as a sturdy container for checked baggage travel on an airline. The sleeping bags themselves are roomy and easily unzip from each other so that you can choose which one you want to used based on the temperature (or your liking). The stash pocket in each bag (see photo) could stand to be a bit larger. Also I have yet to find a sleeping bag with a zipper that does not get caught in the bag itself. All those things aside, the sleeping bags serve their main purpose and they do it all with a choice in temperature

Good for Moderate Temp Car Camping

I used this sleeping bag for 3 nights in a car camping setting (4 person, 3 season tent) that included the following low temperatures: 63 degrees F, 55 F, and 49 F. I used the sleeping bag as a double sleeping bag and my fiance camped with me. However this sleeping bag can also be unzipped to use as 2 single sleeping bags (with a 41 degree F comfort rating with the blue side and a 26 degree F rating with the maroon side). Since I was most interested in this as a double sleeping bag (I have ALWAYS wanted one), I just used it for this purpose. The first night (63 degree F low) we just slept on the ground (bare ground with minimal rocks) and the next two nights (55 and 49 degree F low) we slept on a full-size air mattress. We also used the blue side up (41 degree comfort rating) for the first two nights and the maroon side up (26 degree comfort rating) for the third night. Things that I really liked about the bag include the aesthetics of the bag. I like the colors (maroon and blue on each side as a double and dark gray on the inside. I also like the easy to carry case (see picture) that I can sling over my shoulder for car camping, feel of the material on my skin (it is cozy). I also appreciate the cinch drawstring at the top so that you can close the sleeping bag around the top of your body to hold in heat and the ability to easily unzip each side of the sleeping bag. I used the drawstring on the third night when I was pretty cold and we often independently used our respective zippers to zip and unzip the bags to our temperature comfort and to get out of the sleeping bag to go to the bathroom at night. I also like the idea of the two different temperature comfort ratings in one sleeping bag, depending on the side you use, although I didn't tell much of a difference in warmth after using both sides (caveat: I DIDN'T use both sides in one night, to truly test this) On the flip side, I don't think that this bag was very warm in cooler temps, despite the lower temperature rating of the maroon side (26 degrees F). Without cinching the bag, I was very cold sleeping in the cooler comfort rated side, with another person in the sleeping bag, and sleeping on a 4 inch air mattress in 49 degree F temps. I was able to get warmer by cinching the bag, but then I was very damp from respiration/body heat. At 49 degrees, the 26 degree side of the bag should have performed a bit better, in my opinion. I also think that the double sleeping bag is too large, making it difficult to use joint body heat to stay warm. Instead of a sleeping bag to fit a queen size mattress, I think a full-size would be better. On the 3 nights, I barely felt like I was sleeping with another person because it was so large and roomy; I would have rather slept closer to my fiance. The sleeping bag also slipped around quite a bit on our air mattress. Although I didn't use the specific ExPed sleeping pad, I think having a sleeve to slip individual (or a double pad) directly into the bag might help with this and increase it's versatility. The bulkiness and weight of the bag also makes it destined for mostly car camping or walk-in camping excursions, which is fine for people like us who already have backpacking sleeping bags and pads we love. In summary, this is a stylish car camping sleeping bag that works well as a double sleeping bag with moderately cold night temperatures (60s and 50s). I didn't experience much differences in warmth between the different sides so I don't think it's as versatile as advertised. However, these side differences might be more pronounced when used as two individual sleeping bags (which I didn't use them as).

Great two person sleeping bag

I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I used this product during a recent overnight trip to Joshua tree, the temperatures at night were in the low 40’s. This sleeping bag kept my very warm and comfortable during the night. The sleeping bag seems large, but it fits perfectly into a 2 person backpacking tent. This product can be used by a single person, but it is intended for 2. I used it with my partner and it was surprisingly very comfortable to have two people inside. There was enough wiggle room and since both sides have a zipper opening, it made it easy to exit the bag at night if needed. The material is soft and comfortable, it is also keeps warm. The opening cinches down, so both people can have their heads out and still keep the warmth in. There are two gear pockets inside the bag, but these are uncomfortable to sleep in with any hard item inside of them. Overall it’s a very good sleeping bag, perfect for cold winter nights, either to share with someone or to sleep alone in. It is large so it fits the ground space of two bags. I highly recommend this bag.

Good bag, not for backpacking.

This was my first experience with a two person sleeping bag, and as such, it was pretty good and did the things a sleeping bag is supposed to do. It definitely kept us warm on a night that dipped into the mid 40s which is the most important thing for me. It is easily big enough for two people and each side has its own zipper so you don’t have to disturb the other person too much if you are getting in and out at different times. There is an internal storage pocket on each side, which I appreciate. Also, the zippers work really well and have a really smooth pulling action. They did get jammed a bit but they were easy to get unjammed without excess effort. The description does say that it would be good for backpacking, and I don’t see that being a reality given how bulky it is. I prefer to have a smaller bag for backpacking and this is well more than double the bulk of my backpacking sleeping bag. It was great for car camping though!

Great for car camping or overlanding!

The Exped MegaSleep Duo is a very interesting solution at the right price point. This duo sleeping bag is absolutely perfect/ideal for car camping or overlanding. I have used it many times now in my wedge camper throughout the shoulder season. This is where the sleeping bag shines, as one side of the bag has more insulation than the other. This is intentional and allows you to choose a warmer or cooler sleeping arrangement depending on the weather. Also, the all-synthetic insulation performs well in the overlanding/truckcamping situation as you don’t lose warmth due to moisture or condensation. The only downside (more of a tradeoff than a downside) is that the sleeping bag is really big/bulky, as you can see in my photos. Like BIG. I would never hike with this. But really great for me and the family to use. When you look at other duo bag options you realize that Exped really nailed the price point vs value for this bag.

Versatile and comfortable!!

I loved this bag! The versatility and comfort were great. We used it in the car zipped together, but loved how we could separate it into two bags for camping. The phone pockets were great too, since we used our phones for light.

Great double bag for car camping!

Love the colors, and especially the ability to cinch the top of the bag around your shoulders - the other double bag we have doesn’t have that feature! Good bag for car camping or extra bedding when you have guests or are staying at someone else’s place and need quick and cozy bedding (which is what we used it for). It’s bulky, so you aren’t going to the backcountry with this one! Wide enough for two not-so-tiny people, and more than long enough to accommodate my 5’9” stature. Love the option for two different warmth’s depending on the orientation of the bag as well.

Roomy and warm double sleeping bag

My partner and I really enjoyed the double sleeping bag on a chilly day this fall. It’s so roomy, even for the both of us. It kept us pleasantly warm, and we quickly started dozing off to sleep. The sleeping bag is quite big, so when rolled up into the provided carrying bag, it’s a large bag to haul. It’s best suited for car camping or similar where you don’t need to carry it far on your shoulder.

Love the versatility of this bag.

This has been my fist rectangular sleeping bag and I must say I’m very satisfied. I’m not a small guy at 6’0” and 250 lbs. Traditional sleeping bags were always too narrow and I’m one who tosses and turns at night. I wake up a lot and change positions. I was pleasently surprised at how light this bag is for it’s size as well. I love a bag/blanket that keeps me warm but barely feels like it there at the same time. I used this bag initially while camping overnight in the cab of my truck. Was only gonna be out for one night and didn’t feel like setting up my tent and cot with all the fixings that go along with that. Threw the bag across the back seat and settled in for the night. It was perfect. Sometimes it’s hard to find the perfect position in the back seat even though it’s a full size cab. The bag offered plenty of room to make adjustments as I laid in it and found the right spot. I used the blue side up and I tend to sleep warm, and found it perfectly comfortable as temps dipped down into the low 40’s that night. The bag it comes with is also plenty big to make packing it up quick and easy to do quickly. Overall I’m very satisfied with the bag and love the added bonus of being able to unzip it and walk around camp with it in a blanket configuration.

Perfect do it all bag, super warm and cozy!

Got this for a recent trip and my girlfriend’s first camping trip so I got us a little nicer of a bag, and I’m glad I did. Kept us warm and cozy with TONS of space, enough room for us both to roll over if need be and keep the next days clothes inside so they don’t get cold. And of course we had room for our dog, he’s about 50 lbs and I’m 6’0 230 and she’s 5’0 110 and with us all in it we had room to spare. Great buy, definitely going to get a ton of use from this bag!
