Excellent day hiking pack

Overall, this is a great backpack for day hikes. Pros: It's lightweight and has plenty of storage options (pockets/compartments) for all the gear you'd need for an epic adventure. I really like the sandstone color--it doesn't show dirt and stays cooler in intense sunlight at high elevations. There is an expandable mesh pocket on the left shoulder strap that can fit a cell phone for easy access. I had no trouble adjusting the chest strap comfortably, as you can adjust it up and down. I like the bladder design, as it's easy to fill, and I had no trouble closing the screw-on lid. Cons: The bladder capacity is only 1.5L--I live in dry, arid climates and this isn't enough for more than a 3 mile or so hike. I carried an extra 2L in water bottles in the side pocket. I also tried not attaching the hose to the bladder, hoping that would eliminate previous issues where the bite valve would leak. For the record, the bladder will leak out of the hose attachment if you don't have it connected! Learned that the hard way. I am short--5'2" and found it was a bit harder to adjust this pack correctly, which caused some rubbing on the top of the pack. While this was a great backpack for hiking, it bounced around a bit too much for trail running or horseback riding. Overall, this is a well-designed pack perfect for day hikes. It can handle a lot of gear and has plenty of options to stay organized!

A very functional, solid, multi-sport backpack

I tested the Camelbak Rim Runner X20, 1.5L, woman-specific design. The advantages of the pack include that it did fit my small/slender body frame and at times I forgot I had a backpack on because it was so comfortable. My gear added up to about 15 lbs to the lightweight pack of 1.7 lbs. there are multiple straps to adjust so it fits just right. I wore the pack while hiking up to six miles at a time in moderately warm weather. The Air Support back panel did its job well meaning it kept my back dry thanks to the excellent ventilation and found it to be firm enough to give the pack good structure. The stability belt was indeed useful as it helped keep the pack in place and not dangling around while doing some scrambling. The Crux reservoir baffle cap was indeed leak-proof and the hose was easy to attach/detach from the baffle without leakage. I wish the shoulder straps were a bit more cushioned, and the bottom rigid seam of the hit right on my lower back but able to adjust that enough for comfort for up to three hour time segments. The left shoulder strap has a built-in mesh pocket for “essentials” which nowadays includes a phone but found out it was too small to fit my iPhone 13, regular size. I found it handy for keys, tissues, lip balm. I used the stretch overflow mesh pocket on the back of the pack to stow my dog’s water soft bowl; another time I stuffed a fleece vest. I felt the elastic band of the mesh pocket was flimsy and likely would stretch too much to actually hold stuff securely in place. The side mesh pockets were very handy to carry sunscreen, insect repellent, foldable hat. Overall I recommend this pack for hiking/climbing/biking companion for a half day worth of activities; would also be excellent for traveling, not too small, not too large.

Great pack! Outer Mesh Pockets for the Win!

The pack itself is great! There is a surprisingly large amount of space, especially with 3 mesh outer pockets. The mesh also feels like it will hold up, unlike on some packs. I tried stretching it quite a bit (and even put my Nalgene in both outer side pockets and my jackets in the big one with great results). This is extra mesh space is great too since it makes the pack feel way less bulky when there wasn't anything in there. Inside there is a small zippered pocket near the top which is perfect as well. I was even impressed with the red color. I am generally not a red person, but this color was muted enough that I liked it. My only draw back (which is easily fixable) is that I was surprised at how small the bladder was compared the pack side. I will definitely be replacing it with a different bladder

Solid daypack option

Overall, this is a great day pack! The structure of the back is flexible enough to be comfortable while remaining very breathable and preventing sweat from building up. The capacity is great - plenty of room for water, snacks, layers, sunscreen, and personal items and a good number and placement of pockets, both zipped and open. The waist straps can be removed, which is a nice feature if you don't like using them. I tried it on a trail fairly overgrown with poison oak and really appreciated how compact it feels - no hanging straps, and it compresses down fairly flat if you aren't filling it all the way up. The two main negatives for me were the zippers and the hydration system. All of the zippers, and especially the main zipper along the top compartment, feel a little flimsy. They have held up fine so far but I am nervous about zipping them quickly or with a lot of gear stuffed in the pack. For the hydration system: if you're used to the CamelBack system this probably isn't an issue, but my other hydration bladders are top fill. The side fill on the CamelBack was awkward to use and I had trouble filling it all the way to the 1.5L capacity without spillage. And the bit valve on the hose was hard to get used to - you have to use a specific angle to get the water to flow (and make sure it's in the "on" position"). All in all, a solid daypack - especially if you are used to CamelBacks!

Pleasantly Surprised

I received this pack for product testing for an honest review. I hiked Mt. Cardigan in NH with this bag. This is not typically the type of bag I would pick out for myself because of the placement of the compression straps - I usually find straps on the side of the bag's mouth in the way of getting into the pack, but these were low enough that it wasn't an issue. I actually appreciated them because they come undone through hooks rather than squeeze buckles. I have long nails and sometimes I don't always apply enough pressure on the first try to have them come undone so these were great. Aside from that, all straps on the bag are pretty adjustable including the hip strap - it's removable! Nice feat for if I decide to bring this bag into the city or for travel. Plenty of space for micro spikes, layers, and snacks. There's even a pocket on the left strap for my phone. I also noticed that the inner "brain" pocket is made of mesh while the outer one is not. I kept my keys and snacks on the outer pocket because I didn't want to poke a hole in the inner pocket's mesh. Instead I kept small bottles of sunscreen and bug spray in the inner pocket for easy reach. The one thing I initially had trouble packing were my hiking poles because I didn't notice a dedicated hook/strap/loop them other than what's at the bottom of the front two white chain straps. I thought my poles were going to move around a lot at the top of the pack but I was able to come up with an alternative to keep them taut - pictures attached. My method involved the side compression straps which, at this point, I seriously underestimated how useful they are with its hooks. Overall, I enjoyed having this pack. I knocked off a star because of the bladder. I knew it was 1.5L, but it's square shaped and it leaked around the mouth despite playing with the lid a few times to ensure it's shut tight. I swapped it for a hydrapak bladder, but I ran into the problem that the loop in the bag to hold the bladder up is one closed loop. I had to use a small carabineer because my bladder also has a loop that doesn't come undone to attach to the pack. Between the two, I would expect the bag to be more accommodating because I'm more likely to swap a bladder than my bag.

Great women's backpack for outdoor adventures

I love this backpack for outdoor adventures like hiking, cycling, and dog walks. I have owned many CamelBak backpacks over the years but this one is my favorite for many reasons. I love the Quicklink system that allows you to detach the CamelBack bladder from the drinking tube to make it super easy to fill and clean without having to snake the tube in and out of the straps each time. I love the removable stability belt that allows me to easy take the belt off for activities where I don't want the stability belt and then pop it back in when I need it. The air support back panel is comfortable and helps keep things cool when I get super sweaty on hikes. The backpack has tons of space for gear in the large pocket, the stretch overflow pocket, and the side stretch pockets. I have other CamelBak backpacks that are much smaller and only allow me to carry a few small things - but this backpack had enough room for multiple clothing items, hats, snacks, suntan lotion, etc. The fit was easily adjustable - I am short (5'2") and I was able to adjust the backpack to comfortably fit my torso.

This is the one!

This pack is AWESOME. Extremely comfortable, doesn’t rub the inside of my arms and easily fits a 3L bladder with plenty of extra room for misc items. The picture attached is the inside of the pack with a full 3L bladder and a 48oz Nalgene - could easily fit 2 nalgenes. All that to say, there’s plenty of space for food and/or other things even with lots of water. Nice extra details too like matching elastic bands to hold the loose ends of the (easily removable!) waist straps, zipper pockets on both the inside and outside of the top flap, nice stretchy mesh pockets (4 including the drawstring one on the left shoulder strap) and trekking pole loops. I opted for the sandstone color and it is amazing. The weight of the pack is distributed so nicely that it doesn’t feel the slightest bit heavy on your back. I tried quite a few packs from other brands hoping to avoid the cost of Camelbak but I quickly realized this is one of those get-what-you-pay-for items. Also love that this can be used as a regular backpack - the bladder compartment essentially becomes a laptop sleeve when the bladder is removed. Highly recommend!

Good backpack, can be top heavy

I needed to replace my 15+ year old Camelbak Daystar. This works very well. I love the blue - it stands out well when I set it down in prairie grass and have to find it later. The pocket pulls are just the ripcord - no actual pulltabs like on my old pack, so I bought some MSR and attached them. I like the 2 pockets, but if you fill both, the pack becomes really top heavy and won't stand up. I like the stash pack. I miss the pen slots in my Daylight. The hip straps are very easily storable. I wish the phone/stash pocket on the left strap were lower. I've tried to use it with my phone and it's just at my shoulder. Im 5'3". I appreciated the women's fit.

Nice day pack

I used this pack on a cool, rainy weekend on a short walking trail. I threw in a couple of snack bars and filled the water bladder that came with the pack, but there was still plenty of room for a fleece or a rain jacket plus lunch, if I were going to take this pack on a longer day hike. The toggle of the on/off switch on the bite valve of the water bladder moves smoothly, it’s more ergonomic than my very old Camelbak bladder. I’m not sure if the waist strap would be substantial enough to support a weightier load, but I didn’t heavily test this as I was on a short trail. In fact, I removed it entirely and didn’t miss it. One of the other things I liked about this pack is the multiple pockets to keep my stuff organized. On a longer hike, I like to have lots sweet and savory snacks, so keeping those separated, but easy to access is a bonus. I have plans to go out west later this year, so I’m sure I’ll bring this along for all the day hikes that are on the schedule.

Great hydration pack for a day hike or a run

Love almost everything about this hydration pack! I chose the light blue color for the pack itself and it is gorgeous. The 1.5L reservoir held plenty of water for a 4-5 hour hike on a cool day and kept the weight down, and there is plenty of room in the pack to get the 2L (and probably even the 3L) Crux reservoir from CamelBak and have more water on hot days or longer hikes. With the large cap was easy to twist open and made filling the reservoir with ice and water super easy. Bite valve is easy to use, and I love the on/off lever so it won't ever leak. I'm 5'1" tall and the women's sizing fit my torso really well, and it was easy to adjust all of the straps with it on. The zipped pockets and stretchy pouches held everything I needed for me and my dog, including a collapsible bowl for her. The mesh in the back panel definitely kept my back from getting too sweaty. Literally the only thing I would change about this pack is how the water tube comes out of the top slit to curve over my shoulder and point down when it's clamped into the c-shaped clip on the front of right shoulder strap, instead of coming out of the pack lower down and curving up under my arm so it could point up and clip into the c-shaped clip. I tried to have it point upwards but it crimped the tube, and when it was pointing down it bumped my wrist. I solved the problem by having the tube go across my chest into a loop that is on the front of the left shoulder strap, but I would love to have a slit lower down on the right side of the pack so it could just point upwards. Overall ~ I love this pack and will use it for every hike from now on!
