Runs way small
Way too tight - cinches too much at the waist making it uncomfortable and unflattering and not usable.
awesome crop top
I bought this because I wanted a merino wool bra/top to wear on a long backpacking trip, and have been so pleased with my purchase! I wore it every day during a 9 day backpacking trip in the alps and it never got smelly! On hot days, I felt comfortable wearing it on its own and never felt too hot, and on chillier days it was a great Baselayer under my long sleeve shirt. Highly recommend!
Disappointed by the lack of size inclusivity
The size chart indicates that this bra is not made for anyone over a C cup, which is below the average bra size in America. I wear a 32DDD (I use the bra size calculator on A Bra That Fits) or medium in most compression-style sports bras (including REI brand), and size medium in most tops (including Smartwool). I ordered this bra in a size large based on the calculator on the Smartwool website, which doesn’t give a maximum cup size. I wear it as a crop top or base over a high impact sports bra (I personally like to double up my sports bras for running). It fits me comfortably as a crop top, and it has good coverage; it’s actually a little big. I love the color (lead). I’m not crazy about the ribbed fabric, but the material is fairly soft. The band is comfortable, though looser than I’d like, and overall the top fits well with room to spare. As for cons, it has less even compression and support than I expected (though they did post a warning to be fair). The high neck has a ton of extra fabric that hangs down so much, it brushes against my chin when I bend over. I’m not sure that sizing down would resolve these issues, or if it would be too tight, so I haven’t bothered. Ultimately, it’s a nice crop top, but I’m disappointed by the lack of size inclusivity. I’m fine with the fact that it’s low impact for bigger cup sizes, but there should still be options for other sizes (smaller and larger). They should also make options for people who need a tighter band with a larger cup (e.g. “S-DD”, M-DD, etc.), as well as smaller and larger sizes. Given that some high-end brands now sell sports bras up to a K cup or beyond, this lack of size inclusivity is completely unacceptable.
cute, runs small, tight on ribs
I purchased a medium and I’m a 32A. It’s still rib crushing. Fabric is ok, wish the thick band wasn’t at the bottom or it would be much more comfortable. I’m hoping the band stretches out over time. I got this for only $30 with discounts so I will keep it. I wouldn’t pay more for this bra when smart wool has others that are more comfortable.
Great for adventure
I love this bra so much. I use it for skiing mostly but also a few hikes and it’s held up so well, and wool is such a great antimicrobial and breathable fabric. It’s durable enough I haven’t needed more than one but I’m going to get another anyways. I’m a 34C, 5’4” and 140lbs and bought a medium.
Wearing for cycling
Like the smartwool fabric as usual. It is a snug fit as previously reviewed. I like the coverage. I’ve been wearing in cooler weather so far. Now on long trip so we’ll see how it does with daily wear.
Material is the highlight
Great material and flex. However not real sized for petite women.
