Backpack has a basis but it just has a general feeling that it was designed until someone ran out of time. Bottom line: I should have not have convinced myself that it would work for me and should have returned immediately. I look forward to future revisions. Pros: **Feels good on the back. **I like the interior organization of the main compartment. Several open pockets that allow for relative ease of use. **I came to appreciate the hybrid half-zip/clam shell design of the main pocket. There are interior flaps that prevent the bag from opening completely but can be undone to allow a clam shell opening. Cons: **Front pocket is underdeveloped. No admin pouch which I thought would not be an issue but quickly became one of my main irritants. No mesh pockets or pen holders. It does barely fit a Steam Deck and generic charger **Top pouch is extremely shallow to the point of being virtually useless. Not felt lined. **Laptop compartment is not suspended from the bottom **No strap keepers. Just an odd omission **Water bottle holders are technically made of a stretchy material but are unable to keep anything but the largest bottles in place.
I use this bag for everyday IT work. It will fit a Macbook Pro 16in but it's a tighter fit (which I prefer). The main compartment can fit up to 4 laptops but you need to be careful with how you handle the bag as there isn't much bottom padding protection outside of the main laptop sleeve. (I'm definitely using the bag outside of its means). This slim profile backpack is amazing and hits everything I care about in an everyday carry bag. It isn't very light but it's extremely durable, well designed, and is extremely comfortable. 2 minor issues that doesn't bother me too much (based off my rating) was: 1.) the water bottle does hold a Nalegene (which is what I typically carry) but other style water bottles will be a bit loose and may fall out. 2.) The "sunglasses pocket" is too shallow. I primarily only use it for charging cables and dongles. There is a lot of supplemental pockets to hold a more traditional sunglasses case. Great backpack and worth the price in my opinion.
Recently bought this to be my work backpack (office job with bike commute), and used it as my personal item on a long overseas flight. It's also been good as a small day pack for outdoor climbing. The pockets are great for keeping my things organized and it fits comfortably, plus the water bottle holders are perfect for Nalgenes/similar. It holds about the right amount of stuff for work/travel/short day trips, but would probably be a little small for a bigger day hike (and has no hip strap). Overall so far it's been absolutely fantastic for everything I wanted to use it for! Only flaw is the velcro on the front, I wish it was magnets or snaps or even just a blank flap instead.
Backpack is great for my daily commute or travel. Small enough for my bike commute to work but also large enough to pack the essentials. I really like the many pockets which makes this pack functional and organized. The two water bottles sleeves are nice and easily hold my Nalgene and my coffee. The harness system is customizable and very comfortable. The shoulder straps stay in place even without the chest strap. I do wish it offered a few more admin slots and smaller pockets. But I paired this pack with a small mission control bag to keep electronics and cords organized. Best pack I have ever owned.
Have had this backpack for 2 weeks now and honestly happy with my purchase. I bought this for work (elementary teacher) since my AE one would sag at the bottom, especially with my laptop in it. The district 18 holds everything in its place while being light weight compared to my previous bag. It’s nothing special, it’s simply a well made backpack which is what I exactly needed. I wouldn’t recommend this size if you plan on doing anything more than school, work, or a basic everyday duties.
Bought thinking my work laptop was 15. It was 17. Luckily it fits in the main compartment. Very good build quality. Side pockets are great. Zipper layout is great. Pockets and sleeves in bag are good. I wish the two long were either bigger to fit a small pair of shoes or flip flops or not there at all. The only part I am not sold on is the Velcro flap. It works well only time will tell for how long. Wish it was velcroed more on underflap.
First, as always, top quality build. Second, many bags/packs marketed for school are huge - not so for the District 18 - the volume is just right for the essentials need for class Third, the design allowing to open like a folder (and yet not have stuff spill out) prevents items from being lost at the bottom of the bag. Forth, unlike other dark interior bags, the bright orange allows for easy viewing of items inside the pack.
Good buy, will last for a long time. Pack is a solid build nothing, new from Mystery Ranch but I do have some small nitpicky issues, but none of them are keeping me from using it everyday. I switched from a pack with more organization slots so I had to group most of my smaller items in little pouches that fit perfectly in the slots provided inside and re-organize. Once i got over this i've had no issues. Great bag, recommend.
Had been scouring various brands and backpack designs and found a suggestion in a forum to try this company! It did not disappoint. Had this bag for a few months and it is such a fresh durable and well designed bag. Totally love it. Comfortable and fits everything I need, even stands up surpisingly well all on its own when I set it down. Looking forward to many years with this daypack I can use at work.
The district 18 has been my daily carry for the last month of a resident masters program. I carry a laptop, mouse, charger, notebook, etc. Every day and it still looks like it did out of the box. Stitching and materials seem to be quality and it feels comfortable. The only thing I can't fit into it is my lunchbox. 10/10 would take to the county fair; 3/10 would take to war.
