I believe I'm on my 3rd pair of these boots. I've worn them all over the US and Europe. I also wear them as a work boot anytime I'm working outside or need to be on my feet for a long time. The only reason that I replace them is that the soles wear out. Obviously, I've had to replace the laces many times. I have a wide foot so the wide size option is important to me. I wish I could tell you how many miles I've put on them. They are quick to break in and hold up well to wet conditions.
I have been using these shoes for years as my daily hikers and my backpacking shoes. I love the stiff sole and the fact that I dont feel every rock on the trail. Once the shoes are completely broken in, they feel like gloves on my feet. I never get blisters or sore feet like I used to in my light hikers. They are very breathable and waterproof. My last pair lasted over 150 hikes of lengths between 5 and 25 miles.
This is the best boot I've ever purchased. We've been through everything. Mud, water, snow, lava, nuclear fallout, space exploration and they still keep going. These boots will outlast me and probably be passed down to future generations. Archeological digs will take place in 1000 years from now and they will find these boots, and wonder how us humans created such perfection.
These are a mixed boot in that if you plan to use them up in say 3 or 4 years, they are a 5 star. If you want to keep them long term, they are a one star...given the cost, I gave them 2 stars because I had them 7 years, had 90% of their tread left, but fell apart. The sole fell off the shoe while shoveling snow...not ideal. The boot look new otherwise....dry rot of the mid sole "rubber/pvc/whatever"....not even worth fixing. So, I see it as at least 200 dollar loss. Cobbler was not impressed.... This is a known issue with this boot (found a long thread on reddit about this...apparently the company doesn't warranty this issue - they say it is a fact of the material and that may be a fact) My boots were stored in my HVAC house in a dark closet....so temp was, if stored, room temp....
I will tell anyone who is curious about these boots: Do Not buy them if you're not going to wear them!! If you're going to just chunk them in your closet until it's time to "hike", choose something else!! Of course, they will self-destruct if you do not use them! They're meant to be enjoyed!! That being said, I own a few pairs of these- and, Love Them!! I wear them regularly, though. Yes, you'll find me wearing them on the trails- but, I also Work in them (on my feet full shifts). I Even Bike to Work in them!! I've found that they're great with platform pedals (your experience may vary)!! The Waterproofing is Fantastic- and, they're comfortable all year round!!!
For this kind of money, I would expect a pair of boots to last a life time. I love outdoor gear and I have had (and still have) many pairs of boots and shoes. My fugitives gave up the ghost after only a couple of years light use. I've never even taken them up a mountain! First, the stitching started to come apart, then the midsoles just disintegrated, ending their lives. They weren't that comfy to begin with - really stiff and heavy. I've had boots from cheaper brands (e.g. Cat and Wrangler) for over 25 years that have been through the mill and are still going strong, so there's really no need for appalling quality like this.
I bought these boots over a year ago and wear them to work and play daily. Because I’m so hard on footwear I (used to)buy a new pair every year. I used to buy the other brands that were better marketed. They only last 7-8 months before I had a blow out. I tend to work in some pretty harsh environments and nothing makes for a very long day more than wet feet. Even after the beating I put them through, these keep my feet bone dry-and breathe great These boots are hella rugged. Not sure how the other review about delaminating happened but mine are barely worn, considering what they go through. With that said… DO NOT buy them and go hiking these need a solid break-in period. But once they are, they fit like a glove that was made for your feet. I average 5 miles a day and could/would easily wear them for much more! They are a bit narrow, which I like for the stability, so keep that in mind when shopping. I’d say the size runs a half size smaller than what I’m used to but, again, still amazingly comfortable. Going to buy a second pair to have a dedicated work boot and play boot.
Finished about 20 miles of hiking with these. Conclusion is the toe box is very narrow. Was getting blisters on my pinky toes after 7 miles of moderate uphill and downhill. Going to return and try a Wide sizing. YMMV Very stiff. this may be appealing to some. i rather like stiff boots but beware this will not flex like Salomons or other boots with more shoe-like fitment. Insoles these come with are not impressive. Very firm feel and lots of shock felt on feet. I immediately swapped with Superfeet and it helped a bit. Still a very firm feel. Waterproofing is solid, but beware you will get zero ventilation. Overall, not a huge fan. Had high expectations and feel like for the price, this boot should not create blisters or feel so hard underfoot.
Like many others, I love this boot…except that the soles fall off. Have gone through two pairs with the same experience. If they fixed that issue, these would be great.
About a year into my third pair in 9 years. I have worn these boots from backpacking Mt. Whitney in California to hunting whitetails in Vermont. My first pair lasted five years before the front of the sole delaminated (had them too close to a campfire). I would highly recommend, I wear them just about every day previously doing landscaping and in my current profession as a state wildlife professional. Take advantage of wide size for anyone who has even a slightly wider than average foot.
