Was looking for a light weight regular use hiker that was not overbuilt/ too much sole for no good reason like many shoes and boots these days. Wanted quality to last though. Already have bomb proof old school type backpacking/fire boots. These fit the bill and fit great. Good traction. Live along Lake Superior with tons of trails. Lots of roots, rocks and hills that these seem to handle just fine. My only complaint is the laces. They have a little stretch/elastic too them so loosen up as you hike. They do not come untied really but had to buy different laces because I kept having to stop to tighten them up at the ankle for better support on descents.
Just received these boots. Seem of very good quality but time will tell. Ordered size 10.5 and 11 as I am usually a 10.5 but occasionally need some extra room. I feel like these run a little small so if unsure, order up a half size. I will be keeping the 11 and returning the 10.5
My other Asolo Boots were XC ski. Like those the Falcon EVO GVs are superior quality and value for the money. Wore out the Ozboz, Keen's etc and their quality went down. These are stable, light, and put a spring in my step. I'm 87, 166 #, and these are just right for the moderate trails here in coastal Maine, and just fine for Swiss style trails. I would not recommend them for the muddy rooted AT, 100 mile wilderness, scree scrambling, with a pack etc. How they hold up doesn't matter to me. Very happy with the purchase and REI's fast service.
