My new favorite jacket
I am so in love with this jacket! I have had it one year now and I live in Portland OR. It is absolutely perfect for rain, snow, wind...anything! I feel snuggly and warm whenever I am wrapped in it. The sleeves are just a bit long, but this is perfect for tucking your hands under when you don't want to wear gloves. The hood wraps nicely around your face without obstructing your view. Nice and light too. My daughter borrowed it to walk the dog and now wants one for Christmas. Thanks REI, it's in my cart!
Stylish and practical
I was gifted a Canada Goose parka in 2013 by my family when I was a student and commuting via bus in a large city in the middle of winter and have had it ever since. I was thinking about updating my winter jacket and after some research, the Obermeyer won me over both in style and specifics. My initial impression was very strong - the outer material is soft and the jacket is quite light. There are several likable features including zippered side pockets and buttoned top pockets, an inner mesh and zippered pocket, and inner draw cords to give your waist more definition. The faux fur did not look or feel very faux at all, unlike some cheaper jackets. The hood is removable via zipper and the fur trim is removable via buttons. There's also a strap on the back of the hood much like Canada Goose to make the hood larger or smaller to fit your head. I cannot comment regarding warmth or durability since I didn't use it outdoors. Ultimately I wasn't in love with the color black and when comparing it to my decade old Canada Goose, I decided that I there was still plenty of life left in her and it will still meet all of my requirements for an upcoming trip to MN this winter, and so I returned the Obermeyer. I think if there was a wider color variety to choose from, or if you're simply looking for a stylish winter jacket with plenty of features, this would be an excellent choice.
Not waterproof
I purchased this in October 2023. The first winter it held up fairly well. This fall I washed it for the first time, according to directions on the coat, and it is completely not waterproof anymore. Past return window. So bummed that I can’t wear this except on super dry days now. I’ll try Nikwax but I can’t do the hood because of the faux fur.
Great winter jacket - overlooked brand!
This is my favorite winter jacket I've ever bought! It is very warm and I love the little sleeve extenders because I can tuck my hands into them to keep my hands and wrists warm. The sizing is a little weird since it is numbered. I am about 5'5" and 135 lbs and a size 6 fit me comfortably and I can wear a hoodie underneath.
Excellent city coat for me
It’s a great “town” coat for Wisconsin winters. It’s consistently dry and warm. I love the inner cuffs for blocking wind, chin coverage if I want it, adjustable hood so I can still see, and the options to unsnap rear flap and unzip front bottom for when I need to really move. Pockets are deep and plentiful. Zipper is excellent. Size: I’m 5’6”, 120. Thin but with shoulders and hips, no bust. I fit the size 4 but bought a size 6 so I can easily wear a heavy sweater. Gray color is versatile - spilled mug of coffee just rolled off and color hides pet hair, etc.well. I took one star off for its weight. My other coats have all been down filled, so I may be spoiled. This coat is a bit on the heavy, bulky side. I wouldn’t ski in it for that reason. That said, I’d buy it again for a general city coat, and have even worn it on several snowy day hikes when the winter winds were vicious. Very good.
Toasty warm in my new coat
I am obsessed with this coat. Bought this for a winter move to Chicago and it has passed the test! Looks good, lots of useful pockets - super warm. Just the right length - not too short, not too long. I purchased in my regular size & it fits perfectly.
absolutely love this coat
I bought this coat for trip to WA for skiing, and another trip to CO. The temperatures were single digits on some days and the coat kept me very warm. I like the fact that it’s not bulky and fits well. I also like the detail on the bottom of coat on the back where I have 3 snaps to allow longer strides if needed. I also like the detachable hood. The pockets are very deep and they close by either a snap or zipper. Keeps everything secure. Lastly it’s attractive and functional
Almost Perfect
There is so much that I liked about this jacket; the length, the hood, the velvet lining in the collar and the zippers on the pockets, but the size was strange. The sleeves were too long, and the shoulders were huge. It did fit through the body. The coat was heavy and I knew it would be warm. I am 5' 5" and weigh 123 and usually wear a medium. The jacket seemed to be multiple sizes. Sadly, I am returning it.
Perfect winter coat - will have it for years
What a gem! I wanted something warm but that did not make me feel like a marshmallow. This delivered on both. The coat is really well-made and warm without being overly bulky. FEATURES: I love the fitted wrist cuffs (no cold air), the hood that doesn't restrict your peripheral vision and the length. I even like he fur - a feature i normally remove. SIZING: Normally, I'm a size 8 (5'4" and 135 lbs) in clothes but purchased a 4 so it may run a touch large. The numbered sizes add a lot of flexibility so you can go up a size and have all the extra room you need or down for a more trim fit. WARMTH: In my area with the windchill, it feels like it's in the mid 20s and I'm perfectly warm for short walks (1 mile). I haven't tried longer.
MissAdvanture
I bought this as a Christmas gift. She LOVES it. Asked why; it's so warm. I could stay outside all day (when it was below freezing for days) and it's so stylish I can where it anywhere (to the symphony).
