I wore this sun hoodie for the entire PCT (5 months) and it still has life left in it. Most people had holes in their sun hoodie mid way through the trail and this one only has some light rubbing and discoloration. It dries very quickly and the zipper is great for both cooling off as well as keeping the hood on even in heavy winds. Highly recommend this product and am ready to buy my second one. I am sad to hear the thumb holes are gone. I also wish the womens version had the pocket at the chest like the mens. However, with how lightweight and stretchy the fabric is anyways, i do not tend to use the pocket. Could do without it entirely.
I absolutely adore this sun hoodie. It’s lightweight, feels amazing on my skin and I have generally had very few complaints. It does run very tight in the chest area, I’m a 36D and a large is very tight. Going up a size isn’t much of an option for me, as it would run too long in the torso and the sleeves. However, my excitement over seeing it available in pink was quickly replaced with horror when I realized that it’s completely transparent, you can see my beige bra type of transparent. I’m not sure if this is meant as a joke; however, I genuinely can’t fully comprehend how this is supposed to provide sun protection if it’s completely see through.
Works as a great base layer over a top too
I’ve used this shirt for both biking and hiking on hot days and I really like the material. I found it to be light and comfortable in the heat and not too hot. I do think the sizing runs a little small. I ordered a small and don’t have particularly large shoulders or a big chest but it is a little tight on the shoulder area in a way that feels a little restrictive but it fits well enough for what I use it for. I do love the quarter zip, it was really great for ventilating when I was hiking uphill in the shade and didn’t need the sun protection.
I purchased this Sun Hoodie for my wife, who walks 10-plus miles per day. When it was delivered, my wife tried it on, and liked the fit and the color. But when she unzipped the single pocket and tried to put her hand in it, she looked puzzled. "This pocket is in backwards!", she muttered. After thinking about it, we decided that the pocket is designed to carry a mobile phone to the rear, but this makes it pretty much useless for normal pocket use. On the positive side, this hoodie is of typical OR good quality, and the fabric weight is good for warm weather sun protection. So my wife has tucked the hoodie away with her vacation clothing, rather than using it during her daily walks.
I bought this sun hoody this summer and have worn it many times to keep the sun off my skin, but also stay nice and cool in the hot summer. The half zip on the front allows great airflow. I like the light grey color. This is an item I always bring into the backcountry with me if I’m worried about UV exposure in alpine areas above the tree line. It also keeps bugs off my arms, torso, neck. Highly recommend!!
Very good sun protection. Not giving 5 stars because I wish the arms had thumb holes instead of the elastic, and I think the pocket orientation is weird in a way that doesn’t seem functional for anyone. As a field ecologist, I use this when I’m working in wetlands where I can’t wear sunscreen, and I’ve found it to be a very good lightweight layer and quick dry, so very functional for that environment.
I love this sun hoodie! I tried a few others, but most of the ones with knit fabric felt sticky and uncomfortable. The Astroman Air is lightweight, moves with me, dries quickly, and doesn't stick when I sweat. I wore it on the Tahoe Rim Trail last summer and it was perfect on exposed, sunny stretches and in windy areas.
I have a small Astroman in navy and wanted something brighter and a little more roomy. So I got Sunrise as it’s a bright safety color and I thought it was orange. It is NOT orange - it’s definitely a pinkish coral color. While bright - it’s not the same as what is depicted in the photo. Fit and feel is as expected.
I traveled to national parks in Costa Rica in November - hiking in jungles, boat trips, zipling, nightwalk in the cloud forest. The weather was ranging from cool to hot and from wet to dry. The two Astroman Air Sun Hoodies (red and grey) I had with me, were my every day wear over a t-shirt. It has all you need for this type of weather - you don't get sweat if it is hot, I felt protected enough when I was zipling and it can handle even light drizzles. When it rained I used Hellium jacket - also a great piece for its purpose. I am very happy with my purchase.
