Thoughtful design for cycling. Ugly but effective.
Grabbed these from a trailside REI in the midst of a rainy chilly bike tour. I'm so glad I did. My legs were the happiest and driest part of me. If I had relied on my non-cycling-specific regular cheap rain pants, the wide legs would have interfered with the pedals and chain. The velcro-closure cinch straps around the lower leg eliminated that worry and give you a tight fit no matter your size or what you're wearing underneath. I am tall (5'10) and wondered which was correct: the REI general description that says these have a 30 inch inseam, or the size chart that lists a 33 inch inseam for the XL size. It seems to be the latter, and a 33 inch inseam did the job for me. Lose 1 star because these are, from an appearance perspective, rather ugly and ill-fitting. The XL size is VERY generously sized (huge and baggy) in the hips. Rest assured that you can fit whatever clothing you need to underneath these, contrary to the description that says these run small. If my REI had had a smaller size, I'd have tried it. But they felt pretty good and worked well to keep me dry for multiple days of nonstop rain. Win!
