Smartwool  Smartloft Pants - Women's

Hesitated to order these because they look cropped on the model and there weren’t any reviews. I’m 5’8 and 165 and ordered a large. They’re full length and come down to the top of my shoes. I walk every day in cold Wisconsin and wanted something to wear over a base layer that wasn’t bulky to keep me warm. I walked 3 miles in “feels like -10°” weather yesterday wearing these pants over a smartwool base layer and wasn’t cold at all, they are perfection! I probably could have gotten away with a medium but they’re perfect with a base layer underneath. True to size.

Got these as a gift for my mom who lives in NH but likes to walk, even in winter. She loves them! Size M fit well over a pair of leggings (she's tall and thin).

I had high hopes for these pants, but after 6 months, I'm mostly disappointed with them. They are a good warm layer, but the manufacturing lacks integrity and thoughtfulness for the user. The smooth face fabric on them doesn't stretch, so bending your knees can be difficult if they fit snug. Additionally the ""loft"" sewn into the panels has become loose with washing (always hung to dry), so now it is bunched up on the back of my legs, making them uncomfortable and almost unwearable. If the design was improved, they could be great, but I would not recommend them at this point.

These pants fit well. They are comfortable, warm and can be worn alone or under heavier pants or rain pants.

I've been looking for a pair of synthetic insulated pants for camping trips and finally found these. I wanted pants that aren't overly bulky and can be washed more easily than down pants. I also wanted synthetic pants since I'll mainly be using these in the rainy season in the Pacific Northwest, and down insulation doesn't loft as well in damp conditions as well as synthetic insulation does. I'm 5'1"" and these are slightly long on me but it's easy to fold up the bottom cuff. The wind panels work to prevent cold air from getting through in gusty conditions, and there's just the right amount of insulation for staying warm when active. After wearing them on a cold and wet camping trip at the Oregon Coast, I'll be taking these on every camping trip from now on.

Pants are very warm and cozy with the smart wool lining inside. They are about as warm as wearing two pairs of pants which I love since I live in Alaska and we have long winters. My criticism lies with the stitching. There are big, hard seams running above and below the knees. When I sit down I can feel the seams uncomfortably pressing into my legs, to the point where they leave a deep red line in my skin. Also the pant material is a bit noisy and slick so these pants wouldn't be a good choice for exterior wear for hunting or riding an atv or snowmachine as you wouldn't have a good grip on with those hard seams the seat. Since I got them on a big sale, I'm keeping them and they're nice warm cozy pants for around the house in the winter, but I don't wear them if I'm going to be lounging around since they're uncomfortable for sitting in.

I was really excited about these but unsure about sizing in active wear. I usually wear a medium and am somewhere between a 6-10 in women's pants. I have a smaller waist than thighs and hips. The mediums were snug in the waist and a fairly good fit throughout but in general felt too tight for an activity that I would imagine wearing them in (winter hiking, walking, xc skiing). The large fit more comfortably but was noticeably looser in the waist. The waist drawstring is on the outside of the garment in the front so if you cinch the waist, you have a big loop hanging right in front. I also felt the calves weren't as snugly fitted in the large so they looked kind of baggy. In both sizes, what I disliked the most was the large seam around the lower thigh. It's a structured seam so I really noticed it when I put the pants on and when I crouched or flexed my thigh, it cut into them uncomfortably. I decided to return both sizes but really love the idea of these and how great they could be with some modifications!

I have been wearing these pants everyday to walk my dog! Perfect for that. I would wear these to go for a snowshoe. Next time I will get a medium. I did purchase a large, I can wear leggings underneath if needed. They do run short.

Got this as a gift for my sister and it was too small, she liked it, but since no larger size is available I had to return it for something else. So she didn't like it, and sad that the sizing didn't work out.

Used for -30 degrees Celsius hiking. Wore my merino tights underneath and was very comfortable all morning. A friend that cycles in the winter recommended them to me. Would love them in more colors like grey!
