Interesting sunglasses for specific uses!
While I know the model is Glacier, and the side shields are designed primarily to reduce side glare in snow and alpine situations, I was curious to see if these would help with the hard blowing sand on the beaches of the NC Outer Banks this summer. I also ski quite a bit in the winter, so I figured these could be good for warmer days or to walk around the mountains. Here are a few pros and cons of these sunglasses: Pros: - The rose flash lens color is dark and nicely tinted, and really does help reduce glare - The front of the frame is angled towards bottom which helps protect debris from coming underneath - Nice weight and comfortable to wear - The side shields do in fact keep wind and sand from blowing in sideways into your eyes Cons: - While I initially thought the side shields were removable, they don't appear to be. Perhaps someone with watch or jewelry repair tools would be able to, but you would definitely scratch frame without specialized tools - I don't love the feel of the materials--the high gloss frame doesn't feel quite as nice as other plastic sunglasses I've had, and the side shields seem a bit flimsy FInal take: These are nice sunglasses for specific outdoor activities where you need extra protection on the sides. I do think they will be really nice in snow season. Obviously they are not great for the car or activities where you need to use your peripheral vision, but if you are looking to add a pair for some of the specific uses above, worth check them out!
Light polarized glasses, but not for me...
The sunglasses are quite light, which is nice, but they do feel a little cheap. I also confirmed on the Suncloud website that the side shields were removable, but the process requires a lot of muscle and I ended up damaging one of the connection points. I wore these out hiking in the summer and the polarized lenses are a good touch - they also let through more light than I expected. The fit is alright, but not really my style. I have worn glasses with side shields while touring in the snow and these just don't feel or look as nice. Overall, I would pass on these.
Interesting look, great performance.
What an interesting pair of sunglasses. The look is very steampunk, so if that fits your vibe, I really recommend them. I really like the little side shades, but I’m not sure how durable they’d be. I typically wear non-prescription sunglasses when I’m doing activities outside, so I am not sure if the side pieces would stand up to getting wet much. I do believe those are removable, so I don’t think it’s that much of a downside. That being said, they’re great for being out and about. The color takes a little getting used to, but I found them very comfortable to wear, and very effective at keeping brightness down. I tend to get migraines in too much sun, and these performed perfectly, keeping my eyes and head comfortable for a long day outside.
Really cool steampunk look!
I’ve been using these sunglasses pretty regularly for a month now and I have to say I love them! The rose tint is great and the polarization is really good as well. The side guards are very comfortable and are removable if you don’t want to look like a glacier explorer in the city, although the look is pretty cool. They are surprisingly excellent for fishing! You can see the fish right through the glare and the side guards make it that much better as you don’t get any light intruding from the side.
Funky sunglasses that work!
I’ve always wanted a pair of sunglasses with side shields. My hippy uncle used to wear them everywhere. These 100% capture the essence of my old hippy uncle while also being polarized and extremely comfortable. I have a slightly bigger head and they fit amazing.
You either love them or don’t
I wasn’t a big fan of the glasses but I showed my wife and she loved them. She really likes the side blocks. She loves the uniqueness of them. She feels like a super villain when she wears them. She looks good in them.
Good but not what I expected
Nice polarized glasses. The style isn’t something I would typically go for but they fit my head fine. The quality isn’t what I was expecting, I thought they would nicer but they looked a little cheap.
Very pleased with my purchase
This pair of Sun Cloud Glacier glasses replace an old pair that I bought from REI in the ‘80s. I broke my old ones a in Moab Utah last summer and missed them terribly! They gave me many years of great service. When I got my new pair today, I found that they came without a case, just a light bag. I thought “hey I still have my old case in the F250 glove box.” Much to my surprise the old case said Sun Cloud on it. I was happy beyond belief, because I unwittingly replaced them with another pair of Sun Clouds! Carry on the tradition! Thanks REI for still carrying the best brand of glacier glasses that I have ever owned! The new glasses fit perfectly and have great lenses. Hope I’m good for another 40 years with these!
Nice Pair of Glacier Glasses
Suncloud Glacier I have chosen to try out the Glacier model of Suncloud because was interested in this style that I had seen with other brands. However, I would like to try these in snow. it is still summer where I am so I do not have that at my disposal. At this time I thought it would be great to test when driving. as far as the fit, they fit fine for me. I would say that they are true to fit at medium to large. The lens are a good size and when looking everything is sharp. If you are looking for a pair of sunglasses that will protect your eyes, I would say these would be a great option. They are light weight and overall I think do fine for what they claim to do. For someone who is looking for a brand at the price point that suncloud is at, I think you will be happy with any of their models. I have been lucky to have several pairs of sunglasses over my lifetime, and as far as polarized lens these are pretty good. Overall I think these will do fine for a person that is looking for a reasonable priced pair of sunglasses that are polarized. The Glacier model I would say is not a pair I would recommend for driving due to blocking peripheral vision, but other aspects I think are perfect. Now if you take the sides shields off then they would work fine driving. I would recommend these to anyone that I know who is looking for a pair of nice sunglasses for the price point. I will definitely try these out when I have some snow because these I think will be amazing in the winter time season.
