My Favorite Extra Whistle

I’ve had my whistle for 3? - 4? years by now. I can physically whistle, but I like carrying this on my bag to use as a thermometer and a general at a glance compass, although I don’t use it as my main compass. It’s tough and good for in a pinch. I did have to open the battery door and bend the battery connection a bit because the flashlight would pop on at the slightest thought of a touch. All in all, if I lose it I’ll buy another.

Better Safe Than Sorry

The light on this device helped save three lives this past weekend. While we did use the compass feature a few times, the light was the most crucial tool in helping us safely get off the Au Sable River in pitch black conditions. Although there are better lights available, this feature alone helped guide us through the log and island infested waters back to our campsite. If any of us had fallen into the freezing water, it could have taken 50+ minutes to reach medical assistance. Clip it to your back pack or PFD and hope you don't have to use it.
