The best most breathable shirt!
This is the most breathable hiking/outdoors shirt I've ever owned! I love it. I bought a second one. The first time I wore this shirt, I wore it on mellow walk around a lake on a sunny 65 degree day under an unzipped fleece jacket. I quickly regretted wearing the fleece, but didn't want to go back to the car or tie it around my waist. This shirt prevented me from getting sweaty despite feeling quite warm due to the sunshine and unzipped fleece. I had a similar experience wearing this shirt on a 7 mile hike on another warm Alaska day. I got through the whole hike without my pits or back getting soaked, a rare thing for me. This shirt also keeps me comfy start a hike on a cool morning but then wicks sweat and breathes when I start going up steep hills. I love this shirt and think it will be great in ski season too!
Warm and cold at the same time
I was not sure about this shirt at first because of the soft fleece inside. I thought it might be too warm. However, the perforation in the fabric let's air pass easily through. So, when you are sitting around it keeps you warm and when you are moving it keeps you cool, yet still warm. Truly, it is an amazing piece of apparel, great for my 10 mi bike commute. The fit is also excellent--not too roomy and not too tight, with thumb loops, a nice touch. Have not had it long enough to know how it will hold up over time, but so far I am very impressed with it's performance --and my last mountain hardwear technical shirt has lasted over 15 years of pretty hard use, and counting!
Too big
Great color and interesting warm/cool fabric. Alas, the size L was huge, despite my fitting into the size range for L. I’m 5’5”, 38C.
Way too long for shorter/petite folks
I agree with all the other reviews that this shirt is super soft, comfy, and breathable...for people who are of average or taller height. Unfortunately, I am returning this because the sleeves and torso length are too long for me, even when I purchased a size small (5'2", 145lb for reference). I could probably deal with the long torso length, but the sleeves extend way beyond my fingertips, making the thumbholes awkward and useless unless the sleeve is bunched up a lot when I roll it up.
needs retooling
This is a nice top with several problems. Its SUPER warm. Like wearing a coat, which was a surprise. For some unfortunate reason Mtn Hardware is in 'the short center back length phase' because it needs to be several inches longer. I say that because it wants to ride up when wearing it. The first time I wore it it was under a light jacket to do some hiking and I had to keep pulling it down because it was rising up to my chest. It was pretty uncomfortable and looked ridiculous. It might have helped if I had a tshirt on under it but its so hot I cant imagine wearing it with anything else. So I tucked it in my leggings and then it held unless it pulled out from movement. Not sure how to fix this problem but it would keep me from buying another one. Please fix this shirt. It is a good idea but it needs help
Super lightweight and temperature regulating
I am rock climber and mountaineer. I used this Air Mesh long sleeve crew for my recent climbs in Sinks Canyon, Wyoming. The weather gets super chilly post noon and having this is my only clothing for upper body felt miracle. I was warm in this. Doing so much athletic movements and sweating out, this crew regulated my body temperature super well. I am usually an S And this S does fit well, slightly loose fit. Can also go over capeline layer for better fit. Best part is the ultra lightness of this. You can just stash it in your backpack and wear it if you feel chilly. It is feather light and really helped me be comfortable in cold temperatures without having to wear extra layer which would constrict my movements. Found this ideal for cold weather outdoor activities. Rock climbing, running and backpacking. I have already chosen this is my base layer for any adventure that I do this winter.
Unique material
I'm a climber in Colorado and I need my gear to keep up with rapidly changing weather conditions. I am usually a medium, but based on other reviews, I ordered a small in this top, which was the right call. The cut is a little bit boxy but it generally fit me well. This layer is amazingly lightweight and soft inside. It's comfortable and the thumb holes are made from a nice stretchy fabric. I was worried the brushed backing would shed fuzz everywhere in the wash, but it is good quality and didn't shed a bit. I wore it to climb and found it warmer than the average long-sleeved baselayer. That said, the mesh material does not block wind at all. This is probably the best fit for someone doing high output activities in cold conditions, like winter running in below-freezing temps, or as part of a layering system that could add wind protection if needed. It's comfortable enough that I will probably use mine as a camping layer for cold nights.
New favorite shirt
I LOVE this top. The color is beautiful on. The feel of the fabric inside is super soft and comfortable. The mesh allows even a slight breeze to come through the shirt. It is super versatile good in the cold because of the next to skin material that is warm, but keeps you from overheating by venting super well.
Unique insulation, super warm and light
As an apprentice backcountry ski guide in the PNW I essentially live in base layers all winter - when I'm not skiing, I'm trying to squeeze in runs outside in the snow, so most of the time I spend outside is moving. Sizing can be tough for me - most mediums are not long enough (I'm 5'10"), but I ordered a medium in the AirMesh and it fits great! Objectively speaking it does run a bit large but I really like that about it - plenty of length in the sleeves and trunk. MHW really nailed it with the thumbholes on the whole AirMesh line - low profile and smooth so you're not snagging them on things. It is also VERY lightweight - probably the lightest base layer I've ever worn. This layer definitely falls onto the colder temperature side of the spectrum, but after a few cold and rainy runs I found it to shed excess heat super well and stayed dry the entire time. I have a feeling this will be a perfect layer for colder ski tours, great for hut trips, and easy to layer under or over to fine tune body temp.
Love love love!
Just bought my second one…I’ve worn this one hiking, downhill and XC skiing. Even walking the dog on cold New Hampshire days and evenings. It’s super light, I’ve brought it on a backpacking trip last summer too. Very versitile, light as air, warm!
