Love it!
I love this step. It has two different angles you can set it for and it works great! Be warned though that it may dent the metal right under the latch point. Your car was not built with the intent to use something like this so all your weight is transferred to the car body and will most likely dent the metal. Depending on which angle you choose, it will leave two indents. I have attached pictures below. I already have pinstripes from my adventures and this does not bother me, but making sure you all know what CAN happen. If you don’t want to use this, you may want to look into getting a whittle wadder :)
Love it
Love this step. It has two angles which helps a lot. The only thing you need to know is it will most likely leave a dent on your door frame. My rig is already pinstriped from adventures, but this is a different marking. Your weight on the car at this spot was not expected. When you step on it, the weight is transferred to the point of contact and will most likely leave a dent under the door latch point. If you are good with that, great! If not, look into getting a whittle wadder instead :).
Great fit for my 24' Outback
This thing is sleek. So simple to use and the secondary position makes it basically dead level on my 24' outback. Part that touches the door jamb is rubberized so probably won't (i hope) mar anything up. Complete access to the roof, easy!
Bent door frame on first use :(
Was really excited to try this given the other reviews, and giving it 2 stars because it did allow me to easily step up to roof height. However, on my 2024 Hyundai Tucson, where it rests against the door frame there’s now an indent from the step. While the hook on the door may be rated for this weight, your vehicle frame may not be. Proceed with caution if you are looking at this product. I’ll sadly be returning mine to avoid future damage.
Works for a 2013 Land Cruiser / LX 570
I was intrigued by this item when I saw it in store but was not sure how well it works given that it has only two positions. I tested it and it works as advertised on LC200/LX570 and enable me to reach far into the middle of the roof. That was not too hard to do in the back even without the device by climbing on the rear tires, but that option is not available in the front. The item is well built from solid metal. The protection for the body paint is provided by a thick elastomeric material providing a little bit of cushion but firm enough for stability and support. Just make sure you wipe the paint surface and the device pad before use so there are no scratches due to dust/sand/dirt.
A good value for a good product.
The Moki Ascent Card Door Steop does exactly what I wanted it to do. It is well built and engineered. I use it on my 2023 Rav 4 and it is easy on and easy off. I bought it so I would be able to tie gear on to the roof rack as I said it does exactly what I wanted it to do, get me up high enough to get the tie downs in place.
Damaged Car
This product “technically” works in that it does provide a solid stepping platform just as advertised…HOWEVER, upon using it for the very first time after uninstalling it from the door frame latching point we noticed a sizable folding dent in the metal of the door frame. We immediately decided not to use it anymore and will be returning it asap. Although the damage is likely superficial it will still need to be repaired. Pretty irritating experience.
A shortcoming from the original
This iteration of the ascent is made of plastic with a super thin steel frame/hook. The original was a beefy piece of steel throughout. I personally didn't feel comfortable with the idea of putting that much body weight on something so thin or plastic. I don't think this was an improvement on the original and the description saying its stainless steel construction is a bit misleading. The only upside to the new version is that it folds...but it may also fold under your body weight.
Great accessory for the not so tall outdoorsy ones
I'm so glad I found this step. I am 5'4" and tying anything to the roof rack of my Forester means climbing on all the seats. This step gets me up and at the right height to easily tie down kayaks, the canoe, and anything else we come up with.
hook too big for my car
i was really excited to buy this because i’m short and i wanted to put my kayak on my car easier, but the hook is too large to fit in the u bolts or whatever on my door. super bummed i have to return it
