Purchased defective unit and then received defecti
I'm really disappointed with this filter and I wanted to like because on paper it's the best on the market but the quality control is terrible. I bought one of these and after the first trip the blue o-ring on the dirty side kept falling out when I unscrewed the filter from my bottle. There aren't replacement for these o-rings. So I got a warranty replacement for that one and that replacement failed the integrity test out of the box (I ran 5L of water through it to wet it out beforehand).
I like it a lot.
Be aware that there is good ones and bad ones out there. I received one and it had very poor flow rate and received another from cascade designs for free and it had amazing flow rate. Not rated .01 absolute like sawyer but the build quality is amazing and the versatility is on par with sawyer imo. The cap is very nice and you can seal a bottle to it to backflush without a syringe. Not sure if it will replace any of my others ( sawyer squeeze, katadyn be free) but I can see it being a very good option for a lot people who maybe haven't fallen in love with sawyer. You can also open it to inspect the fibers with I like a lot. Taking with me on the lost coast this year will report any issues after.
I think it’s great!
I love this filter. I think design-wise it has fixed everything I dislike about the sawyer. The built in cap, and the bottom has a little cap so it doesn’t leak, I had a MUCH better flow rate, and it’s easy to back-flush. I have used it on four trips now. No issues.
Lightning fast filtration in a pocket size package
I have used other filters over the years, I really liked my Sawyer squeeze. Does a great job filtering, but is slow. This? I could not believe how much faster it filtered water. Like cheetah vs sloth faster. I filtered one liter in 37 seconds. Super lightweight and easy to use. Solid closure caps on both ends, so it doesn't drip in my pack. And I like that it has a method for testing the integrity of the filtration tubes so I know it is still working. It comes with adaptors to use for a variety of clean/dirty bag or bottle configurations. I mean what's not to love? A top notch product by Platypus
Great Water Filter
I bought this water filter to replace the Sawyer MIni Filter that I had used for years. This filter is much faster in filtering water and easier to use.
not as advertised
I really needed a new water purifier for my through hike I was doing a few weeks ago. I heard good things about this brand from an REI employee so I tried my luck at this one. I received it in the mail hoping to get close to the advertised 3 liters per minute. NOPE. No where close. No matter how hard I squeezed my bottle or bag into this filter the water output was barely a drizzle. I always text my life saving equipment before I need them and this is one of those instances where it pays off. This product is genuinely dangerous with how slow the water flow is. I believe you expend more water trying to get this thing to work than you get in return. I wouldn’t ever recommend this product to anyone.
Test the filter before your trip
I bought an older model which is exact same product compared to this except older model does not have front adapter to water bottle. So I wanted to write this review here so that everyone will remember to test the filter before their real trip. First of all, this product is fantastic if it is not defective. It is much better engineered product with thoughtfulness compared to sawyer. I liked flow rate and being able to test it a lot. Even though quickdraw is 0.02 micron (kills 99.9%bacteria) compared to sawyer’s 0.01 micron (kills 99.9999% bacteria), I am not concerned about this at all. The fact that most of my trips are in PNW helps with that confidence too. The fact that I can test the integrity relives my major concern. I camp on glaciers sometime and even though I try everything possible to not freeze my filter, I still worry about their integrity. However, when I first tested this product at home, I soaked it for 20 hours, but the flow rate was very bad. Very very bad. Advertised flow rate is 3L in 1 minute. But I got like 100ml in 1 minute. So I purchased another one. The new one is a new model that has front adapter. But the filter itself was exactly same. And the second one I bought has great flow rate. I was able to filter 2.5L in 1 minute. I would say it is close to the advertisement. I also found online that it is a known defect that some bad batches filter only 0.5L per minute. I returned the defective one and notified the employee. So it is a great product. But be sure to test it at home. You don’t want to find the filter is defective on your trip.
Peace of mind while backpacking
I have had this little beauty for a few years now and have used it many times on day hikes and multi-day backpacking trips. I was recently in the Grand Tetons with a group who also brought along a different, popular squeeze filter. I could filter about three liters for every one they did. We ended up just using mine for everyone’s water. It’s so easy to check the integrity to make sure it’s working, a breeze to back flush with no syringes or other gear needed, and it’s quick! I have the dirty water bag that they used to sell with the filter and the little carry handle makes it much easier to fill up than other bags. I love this filter and intend to use it for many thousands of gallons of water in the future!
Beware the terrible quality issues
My brand new filter filtered a liter every 15 minutes with me squeezing my Cnoc bladder till my arms hurt. Beware quality control is a real issue, I threw mine in the trash after one backpacking trip. Shame on me for not trying it out before a trip
My favorite!!
My favorite squeeze filter due to excellent flow rate and caps on both ends. Can go right into a pocket or sleeping bag in cold conditions without risking wetness.
