[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wanted to love this jacket. I love the technical features, the colors, the zipper locations, the cut, etc. However the key component to a "pro" series jacket is being absolutely bomber waterproof. I am an outdoor professional who spends long durations of time outside; staying dry in less than optimal weather is critical. Out of the box, this jacket significantly underperformed. The jacket has little to no beading and actually absorbs the water in the outer fabric. The goretex membrane does OK, but even after an hour, my layers inside are quite damp. If I were out for a few days without reprieve, I would be in trouble if I took this jacket. Trying to fix this solution rather than get a new jacket, I re-applied a water proof coating (nikwax) following all product instructions. Still, no improvements. Either I received a defunct jacket or this jacket is NOT worth the cost.
My Minimalist Pro Jacket was christened on a trip to the Canadian Rockies/British Columbia and it did not disappoint. Knowing the late September weather would be all over the place, I used this jacket over a vest some days and over a fleece jacket on colder days…and by itself when I could. The waterproof and windproof properties kept me perfectly dry and warm with layering. The hood system was great too and kept the winds and rain out nicely. Combine all that with the light weight, this is my new go to travel jacket.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this jacket for a summer trip full of hiking and urban exploring across Norway. This jacket held up and kept me dry through everything that we encountered--misty, windy, foggy, rainy--and it fit great layered over a fleece on the colder days. When the pace picked up or we were going uphill, the pit-zips were great additions to help keep me comfortable and prevent overheating. It also packs down super small so it was easy to bring along on every excursion in a daypack just in case it started to rain.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this jacket 10 years ago on my first backpacking trip to Europe. I have used it in every possible condition since then from PNW deep forest trecking and hard forest tree work to skiing snowboarding & in torrential rains. It has never let me down it is always packed and in my bag, I couldn’t recommend this jacket more if it ever failed, I would simply buy another one.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Packing for travel, you want a jacket that can handle the cold, wind, and rain yet still fit in your travel bag using minimal space. Marmot solved all that with this jacket. I love my jacket! With both inside & outside pockets and even a hood that actually rides well on your head, everyone should take a look at this jacket before spending your money.
Love this rain coat. Quality is top notch. I like the high pockets as they fit my body right. Sleeves are long so they can protect from rain. I’m really happy with the purchase. I will say I am a woman (and wear medium in women’s jackets). I ordered a small in this men’s jacket and prefer it to a woman’s cut.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am replacing a ten-year old Marmot rain jacket. Very similar to the Minimalist but I do not recall the name. I have yet to wear this new jacket so I cannot comment on its waterproofing or breathing characteristics. I can say it feels stiffer and is ‘noisier’ than my previous jacket so I am a little disappointed at that. One selling feature of this jacket is that I will sometimes use it as a wading jacket. The fact that the pockets are up higher is a benefit rather than a liability.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is exactly the jacket I needed: a waterproof shell that has good thickness to it. I'm a 5'11" woman and the men's jacket fits my frame perfectly! I have broader shoulders than an average woman and find that, as a result, arm length, in regular women's sizes, suffers. Nicely made, quality material. I use this when I'm riding in the rain, which is about 9 months out of the year! Feels like it'll last a long time, which I really appreciate.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this jacket from my local ski shop because i was looking for a shell while snowboarding because i run on the warm side. This jacket has been absolutely wonderful for snowboarding. During windy days it keeps the crisp breeze off of me but also helps me retain my heat. it did great in the rain/snowy mix days. i would highly recommend this as an all around wear not just as a rain jacket or snowboard jacket; it is very versatile.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great goretex jacket , well made . i also have 2 Minimalist jackets that i prefer over the pro fore one reason only .The 2 side pockets are placed so high that they really should be referred to as chest pockets .On the basic Minimalist , the pockets are placed lower where they should be and thus is more comfortable when hands are put into the pockets . Also on the Pro , the pockets are not large enough in the opening .
