Great, until it’s not

I have bought these for my family for years because they have been both performative and (relative to other rain jackets) affordable. My kids started wearing & passing these down in preschool (at that time, this was one of the few actual comfortable jackets for kids that wasn’t crazy childish, heavy or moisture-trapping), & we’d just buy more as they grew bigger. School, camping, scouts, sports, spring skiing, etc-these wore & washed like iron. Until the liners would start to flake & shred; then these jackets were pretty useless. I can’t give 1 star because they’ve served us well, but I will give 3 because I expected a product that will last.

Soaked through after light rain.

I got this jacket and wore it on a recent trip to Portugal. It rained a couple of days while on the trip but nothing hard, more of a PNW drizzle. The fabric absorbed water within the first 30 minutes and soaked through, particularly on the shoulders. Very disappointed in the performance of this product.

QUESTIONABLE DURABILITY.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Over time, the lining begins to fall apart and the piece becomes useless, while the outside remains intact.

Mislabeled?

This is the fourth Marmot PreCip I have owned over nearly two decades. I love the affordability of the jacket, and with proper care, it retains it's waterproof protection through normal use. This is the first "Eco" PreCip I have owned and didn't know if I should expect anything different. The Men's Medium I received is so large that the sleeves reach my fingertips. I could wear multiple puffer jackets under it and still have plenty of room. If this is not an XL, then it is at least a Large. It certainly is no Medium (as it is labeled), and I will be returning it to my local store at my first opportunity. Is this a characteristic of the "Eco" model???

Great jacket- deserves recognition !

Great jacket. I bought this in Orange to wear as a hard shell during hunting season. I’m in NH and have worn it for hikes in the woods 2-3 miles and on longer cold weather hikes in the mountains here. Kept me dry in light rain and recent snow showers. It is comfortable and breathable and Large fits perfectly. I am 5’ 11” with a longer torso and arms, and weigh 190 for reference. I find it quieter than other lighter weight shells and the material is not as clammy as the standard precip. I bought on sale so only paid 89.00 and it a fantastic bargain. I grabbed this over my Patagonia triolet jacket on a recent hike to keep my weight down.

A rain jacket for all climates

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Checkout the Men's PreCip Rain Jacket. I have warn it to kids soccer games in the New Mexican high dessert. Weather here can every five minutes from snow, to wind, to tortuous sun. This jacket keeps you dry in any type of rain. It breathes so that you stay comfortable in any quick of weather. You can open vents to let out heat. When it becomes too warm, it is easy to remove and store in your backpack. It performs just as well in the Himalayas, where you can use with layers underneath to stay warm. The material so hi-tech that it gives you protection in all challenging climate changes.

What an upgrade!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This rain jacket has been fantastic. I upgraded from a very old, budget minded rain jacket that had worn out and I decided it was time for something nicer. This breathes so well I was able to wear the black colored jacket in the sun, on a day that was in the upper seventies all day. Pit zips function perfectly. And the higher position of the pockets will be much appreciated when backpacking and even come in handy when driving to and from the trailhead. Can't recommend it enough. I wore this for an hour in a down pour with the hood up and only had some rain get in at the pit zips which I forgot were open.

Liner deteriorating

Great jacket, until I put it on recently only to find the liner has begun to fail. Not what I'd expect from Marmot, especially at this price point.

great deal for gore-tex like jackat

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I lost my older Precip. This is a great upgrade that is more waterproof and breathable. Just got in time for a rainy weekend and it performed great. As others mentioned, the feel is softer and less plastic like. If you are looking to upgrade for less than gore-tex with similar perm rating, you should consider this one. I am a 42 chest and ordered the large. It is slightly big but works for me because I can layer under it. Still torn on whether I should have gone with medium but it may have been too small. Higher pocket are great for backpacking.

No snaps they were great

It's ok. I liked the one I got a long time ago that had snaps as well as a zipper. Easier to open and close without fussing with zipper.
