Just completed the Rainbow Pass loop in the North Cascade / Lake Chelan National Parks / Recreation area. Wore these boots for all ~32 miles and all the elevation. They were comfortable, waterproof, and served me well. I will agree with another reviewer here that I don't like the plastic lace loops either, they feel like they won't last the long run and for $275 I expect a bit better. However so far they've held up over many short reels and now a couple of long multi day hikes. I will continue to wear them and see how they hold up in the long run.
The new style nylon bushing lace hooks do not impress me as being durable for the long run. My extended experience with their ball bearing roller styles has been one of zero failure in the field over the life span of the boot. My concern is that the plastic bushings will crack with age while on a rigorous multi day trek carrying a large load. For myself, the boot is without doubt my most important piece of gear. This is something I never compromise on. The positive of this new boot is the redesigned outsole. It promises better traction on down grades because of the aggressively designed heel brake. Disappointed however that LOWA chose to incorporate a nylon side panel on the side of the boot upper. This looks like a weak point compared to their full nubuck upper designs. Needless to say, the fit is Lowa's excellent traditional cut with roomy toebox.
Comfortable boot with a stable sole but a narrow toe box which is the reason for 3 stars. I’d recommend ordering a half size larger.
Got these a couple months back and did several hikes in them. Great stability, comfortable and everything I was looking for. That is, until it rained. Even with gaiters these boots took on water. Ended up returning because I paid too much to backpack with wet feet at the first sign of water.
