Weakest link - Laces. Shoe is fine, but the laces unravel in just a couple of months. And if you contact Merrell customer support (as I did this morning), they will waste 10 minutes of your time only to send you to a warranty form that clearly says laces aren’t covered… and then just end the chat for non-responsiveness while you’re wasting your time on the stupid form for $10 laces (that probably cost Merrell $3). So go ahead and add $10 (about 20%) to the cost of these shoes for a set of replacement laces IN LESS THAN 3 MONTHS. So these are really $70 shoes if you want your kiddo to be able to wear them for more than 2 months.
When my 7 year old first laced up his new Moab Speed 2 Low Waterproof Hiking Shoes he said they were one of the most comfortable shoes he's worn, and he's not taking them off. He also really liked the color-scheme and how "rugged" they looked. He likes them so much he not only wears them hiking and around the neighborhood, but to school. There has been no wear-in period, they fit perfectly and were good to go right out of the box. Usually, a 7 year old doesn't mention the sole, but he said that this one is "extra grippy," which has proven true, with the latest Colorado snow storms. Socks have stayed dry, and so far there are very little signs of wear. My Merrell's - Moab 2's - have taken me on numerous backpacking trips without fail, and we're hoping to get the same long-term wear from these.
This was a great pair of hiking boots. These shoes are very comfortable for my active son. He has hiked in cold, wet, and snowy weather with these boots and he did not complain once about the fit. In fact, he loves how the boots have great grip - he even wears them to play basketball! The size is true to fit and is waterproof. He has worn these boots in snow and rain and provided great rain and wetness protection for his feet.
These shoes are fantastic. They fit true to size and are comfortable on the trail and off the trail. They are breathable so your feet don’t get too sweaty but are water resistant. The grips/thread on the bottom are great for trail walking and work well when the kid deviates from the trail to explore. All round a great pair of shoes for trails and exploring.
My daughters both wore these shoes 3 times and just noticed they are falling apart. We have 2 different sizes so I am thinking it isn’t a defective shoe but an overall defective design. Buyer beware.
My daughter really likes these hiking shoes, so much that she’s incorporated them into her normal sneaker routine. She says they aren’t stiff at all (which I would worry about seeing as it’s a hiking sneaker) and she says they’re comfortable to play in and run around in. I love the color scheme and love the idea that they are waterproof. They sound like a great option for her always-outside summer camp where they play in the woods, even if it’s pouring out. We did get a size 4 and she currently is a solid 3/3.5, but I’d suggest erring on a bigger size as she seems not to notice it being too big, and with the laces she can cinch them tight enough for them to be comfortable.
The Merrell Moab Speed 2 hiking shoes are an excellent option for active kids who enjoy running and hiking on trails. With a waterproof design to keep feet dry, a breathable mesh upper for ventilation, and a protective rubber toe cap for durability, these shoes provide comfort and protection for little adventurers. The midsole and insole absorb shock and add stability, while the easy-to-tie laces ensure a secure fit. The padded tongue and collar add cushioning for all-day wear, making the Merrell Moab Speed 2 ideal for kids who want to comfortably log miles on the trail.
My son (10 yo) loves these waterproof shoes and say they are very comfortable. I love that they are easy for him to get on and that the laces stay tied. Not a deal breaker, but after wearing for a few weeks we noticed a small gap between the side of the sole to fabric on one shoe. The gap has not worsened but we will likely treat with shoe goo as he wants to keep wearing them.
My daughter loved the fit and feel at the first day. Day 2 was a rainy day, so excited to try them out. Unfortunately, she came home with soaking wet feet from school. These have zero waterproofing. The whole inside of the shoe is wet. No mud stains and still look brand new but sad that they lack waterproofing. Second pair of kids Merrells that don't live up to the title waterproofing.
I got these for my daughter to wear and she absolutely loves them. The color is teal which is her favorite color. She wore them last time it showed and her feet stayed dry and were warm. The sole is hard but flexible so she could walk on rocks (when the snow melted) and didnt feel them poking her foot. They fit true to size.
