Great hiking shoes for the little one

I got these Merrell shoes for my 5 year old daughter. They look great!! These are my daughter's favorite shoes now. She loves the coloring and style since her favorite color is pink. The single Velcro strap is easy to use and lets my daughter put her shoes on herself. She is not the biggest fan of laces quite yet. She says they are comfortable and likes to run everywhere with them. She uses them in school and out in the snow a bit since it is winter. The tread pattern looks aggressive enough to maintain tracking on trails once it warms up. The shoes are vibrant and easy to see from a distance. Hoping to get out some more this spring and see how they hold up.

A Sturdy, Yet Snug Fit For Little Adventurers

I recently recieved a pair of Merrell Kids’ waterproof hiking shoes in size 11 (US) for our five-year-old. Knowing Merrell’s reputation for high quality, my expectations were high, and I wasn’t disappointed. The shoes are incredibly sturdy and provide excellent traction, perfect for the rough and tumble of outdoor play, especially since she attends an outdoor preschool, where she will be playing outside in all types of weather. I took care to measure her feet and use Merrell’s size chart when placing the online order. Although they fit well, they run a bit tight, which becomes an issue during colder days when thick socks are necessary. As a result, we had to wait for warmer weather before she could wear them comfortably. However, once it warmed up, the shoes quickly became a favorite. My daughter loves the feel of them, and I appreciate the convenience of the bungee and velcro strap, which allows her independence in putting on her shoes (this is also essential when taking them on and off to adjust layers). Living in the Pacific Northwest, our hikes and outdoor activities often occur on rainy and wet days. The few times she’s worn these shoes, her feet have stayed dry and comfortable, a crucial feature for any hiking shoe we choose. I highly recommend these shoes, but if you’re considering them for the colder months, you might want to size up. For quality, comfort, and practicality, these Merrell hiking shoes are definitely a solid choice.

Great adventure shoes!

Reviewed by 6yo girl. What she liked: Fun to run and jump in. Good for climbing trees, hills, and going up slides. Waterproof so her feet stayed dry in PNW weather. Velcro strap makes for easy on and off. I liked: Very grippy bottom. Rugged construction ie. kid proof. Easy on and off is a major +.

Solid waterproof option that are still lightweight

These are solid waterproof shoes that my son has enjoyed wearing. I wish the toe box was not as cramped, but that is probably my only complaint. The tread is great for him to climb. The 3/4 height is perfect so that he can wear these shoes on more occasions vs the full height boots. They are very lightweight, making it easier to run and jump. For reference, his other 'favorite' shoes are Nike Frees, and these weigh about the same even with the waterproofing outers. Velcro looks to be substantial enough that it should well last for the life of the shoes without slipping off. Excited to put these shoes to good use!

Perfect Kids Light Hiker!

These are a great choice for outdoors loving kids. My five year old daughter is very into vibrant colors, and these fit the bill! She loves the style, and the fit feels true to size. We have been hiking in snowy and rainy conditions so far, and we are happy with the waterproofing. The only problem is she steps in every puddle now that she knows her feet can stay dry! The tread has provided good traction in the snow. My daughter has insisted on wearing them to school daily since she got them. After her first day she was so excited about how fast she can run in them! That speaks highly to their lightness and comfort. Also, these definitely don’t require much “breaking in”, so they are comfortable from the start. Still, the construction is of high quality, and based on how they are wearing so far, I suspect these may get a second life from her sister after she outgrows them. The hook and loop closure system is perfect so my daughter can put her own shoes on while we are getting ready. Overall, the Moab Speed 2 is a light and comfortable kids hiking shoe that is built to last!

Fun but Rugged

When we unboxed these shoes, my five year old daughter loved them! Abby is between a size 11 and 12. These shoes are true to size. Abby’s review: “They are comfortable, sturdy, and grippy.” She loves the colors and attributes being able to climb our backyard tree for the first time by herself to her new shoes. As parents, we love how well made they are. The aggressive traction and waterproof shell are sure to make our Rocky Mountain hikes more fun and comfortable for Abby!

Great kids outdoor shoes

Great pair of all weather shoes for my 5 y/o son. He was so excited to learn they are waterproof and took them outside to test the first day it rained after he had them. His feet stayed dry….win! I deducted one star due to the elastic laces being a little tight the first few times he wore them. When he told me his foot hurt, I stretched the elastic on the laces a bit and then helped him put the shoes on and position the tongue. All is good for now and he loves the shoes. Full disclosure, I did let him put them on by himself those first few times. A little adult intervention to stretch the laces and position the tongue may be necessary. Otherwise they fit true to size.

Light, durable, and comfy for kids!

My 6 year old loves these Merrill sneakers! They are very roomy inside, light weight for running/jumping and comfortable according to my son. As a parent, these are very durable and well constructed so that the soles won't wear out fast and glue/seems won't open up on the side. The waterproof feature is also amazing keeping socks dry and there's an anti stink lining! All of these features in a shoe is amazing!

Great hiking and everyday shoes for an active kid

These are great hiking shoes and also everyday shoes for an active kiddo.  The nice thick tread is great for hiking, especially in the slippery muddy months, and my 6-year old appreciates that the soles don't slip around when she's climbing on the play structure as well.  I like the elastic laces + velcro closure -- it gives her a sturdy firm fit, even though they are a half size larger than what she was wearing, so I'm hopeful she'll be in them for a while. I also like the wider toe box for similar reasons -- hoping to get a longer wear out of these compared to some other sneakers.  We've only had these for a few weeks so I can't comment on durability but the materials seem really sturdy and strong, especially in the areas where she often weras through her shoes (e.g.,  there is good rubber coverage over the toe and double stitching on the velcro strap).   Overall, really happy with these shoes so far!

Not child durable

Review: We purchased this pair of shoes for our three-year-old to use as outdoor shoes. They look great, and he loved the nonslip soles, which provided good grip and confidence while playing. However, after just a couple of weeks, the rubber band lace broke. Since it’s not a traditional lace, we couldn’t tie it or fix it, leaving the shoes essentially useless. I really hope Merrell invests in making their kids’ shoes more durable. While the design is appealing, durability is critical for children’s footwear, especially for active use. This experience was disappointing, especially given the brand’s reputation.
