The pad is lightweight and seems durable. The V grooves are deep, but the side rails aren't very pronounced. When centered and laying flat, the side rails DO take in the displaced air, but (as a side sleeper) it's easy to flatten the rail if you aren't perfectly centered. 1 star was removed for that reason only.
I have used this for 2 summers of backpacking, about 12 nights. It is comfortable and fairly easy to inflate. I sometimes have issues rolling off of it but it’s lightweight and provides good support. My biggest gripe is it is a pain in the butt to get back into the stuff sack. Almost every ounce of air has to be out to roll it up tight enough to fit, and the V pattern of the air pockets makes it difficult to do so. I dread getting this mat back in its bag every morning but otherwise is comfortable and easy to set up.
this product should not have been in REI's store! This is a "blow up by mouth" pool raft from the 70s that is an immediate return. It also only provides thermal insulation for three seasons! It just doesn't belong at the REI I used to know (member since '89). Disappointing.
I loved this after the first season to the extent that I recommended it to a friend. And then season 2 came around. It would hold air for a couple of hours at the longest. If you want a disposable pad and only need it for a season, this will work. If you want a pad that will last, get something else.
Not very comfortable or warm. Little hip support, if you’re a side sleeper look elsewhere. It makes an obscene amount if noise too
