It's sad that Patagonia has changed the fabric. Now, it is more rigid, hard, and stiff, and it doesn't have the softness it had a couple of years ago. The fabric has less elasticity. The pocket change on the side is fine. Even in length, it feels very short. The 30" inseam is not enough for a 5'6.5" person.
I have these in the slate grey color and like them, but just bought the same pants in black in the same size and they’re too small, shorter, and the material Is not as soft or stretchy. I will return.
I own two pairs of quandary pants and four pairs of the 5” shorts. Historically, I fit comfortably into a size 2 and if I want the fit a bit more baggy a size 4 works as well although it is very loose in the waist. Based on the reviews I went into the store to try these on as it appears Patagonia has changed the fit. I was unpleasantly surprised to find a size 4 was uncomfortably tight in the hips and waist. My favorite part about my (original) quandary size 2 pants is that they are perfect for travel or hiking. Always comfortable and don’t dig in. Not the case with these. The material is much stiffer and if you’re able to get them to fit right then I would believe they are good quality pants. Just can’t figure out how my size goes from a 2 to a 6 in this style.
Bought a pair of these yesterday at the REI store and now buying a second pair online. Got Size 6/30 inseam. I need a standard pant for Africa trip. What I was looking for was: beige (check), something with a plain hem that could be shortened if needed without moving ankle zippers etc. (check- also not needed due to inseam). Quick-dry type fabric (check), roll up compactly for packing (check). Also, these were more flattering than the other ones I tried on. I considered zip-offs, but find them kind of ugly, and by the time you roll them up for packing you could have packed BOTH a pair of pants and a pair of lightweight shorts. String at waist for adjusting in. The only complaint I have is that I wish the color were a click less brown, as it's not quite a neutral enough khaki for "everything" to match it -- especially b/c tops will need to be very neutral for Africa. Will be a little tricky.
Loved these! Wish they were available in petite sizing in store. I wore these during a backpacking trip along the Olympic peninsula—they were lightweight and kept mosquitoes off me and were the perfect weight for warm-ish evenings. I love the little buttons to adjust the length which allowed tide pool exploring without fear I’d get my pants gross or wet.
The color (classic Tan) and fabric material are both very nice. I purchased a size 18, because that's the size I purchased in the shorts of the same style. However, the shorts fit perfectly. These pants run a bit large. I may have to try swap for a size 16 in the pants instead.
