Simple and efficient
Amazing pants and great replacement for my ripped Beta AR. These feel a lot lighter and less baggy which is better for not catching crampons, and also the added full zipper so you can have them in your pack and use them only if you need them for climbing. I also like the lack of buttons for saving weight. Great simple piece !
Recommend these pants
This pair of beta pants is very useful. It is convenient for daily outdoor sports when paired with my beta ar. I haven't used this pair of pants to go to the snowy mountains yet. The full zipper is very useful and clean.
Superb fit, no ventilation option
Extremely good cut, will not slide down from hips if you read sizing info and choose appropriately. Good hips, good knees, good fit around boots - makes for little noise when walking (compared to other more baggy pants). However, the waist is secured with a snap button. The practical effect of this is that the pants constantly falls off if you try to ventilate by opening zippers. So understand that these pants are either "on" or "off" and doesn't really have a functional option for ventilation. Too bad, would otherwise have been a "best in class" product. Please fix! Would have liked to see stronger fabric over knees, rocks seems to wear them a lot.
Know what you're buying!
Unfortunately, I've become acquainted with the fact that there are black Beta AR pants, and even black versions of these. I have the Black Sapphire which is honestly just a sort of cement-blue sort of thing. That's disappointing (it doesn't coordinate with my black Beta AR jacket). Fine. The other issue is that these are a pure shell: there are no pockets. That makes them, as pants, relatively useless; effectively like a pair of under-layer thermal pants. But these are the outermost thing you wear, so why they have no pockets is completely beyond me. They're great at defending against water though, so I'll give them that.
Best pants for running in cold and wet weather
I wore these pants for my 70k trail race (Wild Strubel 70k by UTMB) this September in Switzerland. It was snowing, wet and cold that day and I stayed dry and warm during the race. It's super easy to put them on or take them off as well due to the full size zippers which matters when you are running a race. No need to take your shoes off especially it's muddy and wet. Highly recommend if you need water and wind proof pants running in cold and wet condition.
Great trekking waterproof layer
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this last year and so far have been only satisfied with those pants. It's easy to pull on even while wearing your boots. Repells water well if you keep the DWR in good condition. I did a little bit of climbing and they performed well too. The only thing that could use some improvement would be tightening the waistline - there are laces but it's a bit uncomfortable to tie them up if you are already wearing a shell jacket
They're okay; the Alphas are worth the extra $50
I bought these and returned them. The side snaps - one on each side - are not retentive enough to stay closed when trying to reach into the pocket of pants worn underneath. There should be two snaps per side. (The same is true of the Alpha pants, though the snaps' being inside the waist-band renders them somewhat more retentive.) In addition, the belt-tightening system involves only the front panel, which doesn't really work all that well. (Again the Alpha pants do something similar, but it works enough better that I kept them, having ordered them after returning the Betas.)
Almost perfect
I love these rain pants - lightweight and comfortable. Great pants when weight is a consideration, The full length zippers allow putting on and taking off without removing footwear. Fully waterproof and wind proof. I am 5’10” and 170 lbs and ordered a medium with short length and they fit perfectly. The regular length are much too long for me. My one complaint is similar to other reviewers - the waist snaps come undone too easily. They need either a different type of snap or some other means to keep the waist closed. The drawstring is almost useless because the snap comes undone when things tighten up. I even considered using suspenders but I fear they will tear the material. Surely Arc’teryx can come up with a better solution.
These Pants Need A Redesign
More like a generous 2.5/5 stars rounded to 3. In short, I'm not satisfied with these pants. Cons: The Snaps - At the top of the side zippers are weak and come undone very easily, this is the main problem with these pants. If the side zippers are not zipped up all the way the snaps will come undone and the pants will slide down. If you leave the zippers down to access pant pockets underneath the snaps will come undone. I suppose the trade-off is that avoiding leaving the zippers down will prevent zipper damage in the long run. The Waistband - Is barely elastic as is stated in the product description. I had to reorder a size up as the waist had no room for give. I previously wore the Alpha SV pants in the smaller size and they fit really well. The Drawcord - Is made of ribbon material and does not stay tied in a bow. The length is also short making it difficult to get a good tie off. The eyelets for the drawcord are close together, so getting a good cinch in order to provide a secure, comfortable fit is difficult. Pros: Waterproof - Gore-Tex shell that keeps me dry in windy and rainy conditions. This was the main reason I bought these pants. The Price - Compared to other options that I explored, these pants seemed like the best choice. Conclusion: Overall, the way the waist on these pants was designed makes them a big disappointment. I shouldn't have to worry about my pants coming undone and sliding down. My main activity is cycling with thin gloves, so it's annoying but not hazardous. I would imagine in more severe weather conditions this could become a safety hazard. They are waterproof as expected, and the price made them seem like a good deal. Other features are the side zippers so you can put them on and take them off without having to remove your footwear. The ankles have elastic cinch cords. There is a front zipper, but it has no snap as is stated in the product description.
Great Rain Pant
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Wanted a pant that was easy to get on quickly when caught in an unsuspected rain shower on the trail. With the full side zips it is easy to put these on without removing your hiking boots! I have a 32-33 waist with a 30in inseam and the medium /short was the perfect size for me. I have worn them just over shorts and have layered them over jeans as well. They are comfortable and fit well with the articulated leg construction. The GoreTex material appears durable and I hope to get many years of use from these pants!
