One star in this product is a Karen type travesty. I own at least four or five pairs of quandary pants and even bought a new pair in the last few weeks. I wear them almost every day to the point where they start to fall apart. My first pair developed a hole in the crotch after about eight years of constant wear. They can be worn in a variety of environments but I wouldn’t swim in them! Upgrades whines or not, they are a great pair of pants for me because they aren’t smothering like a cotton pant. They are airy in the summer and maybe a little light during real cold weather but do the job for inside work. My gripe would be they’ve gone up in price, but what hasn’t?
The Quandary Pant has been updated for 2024. I'm not sure what they did with the fabric but it is no longer stretchy or have that nice soft touch. The fabric feels harsh, the crotch and the seat don't feel as comfortable, and when you machine wash them they look awful, lots of wrinkles in the fabric. They moved the leg accessory zipper pocket to the side and higher up, that's OK and the rear pocket now has a zipper. Overall, I don't get why Patagonia had to drastically change an outstanding pant and make it worse. Two stars is the best I could give.
I was looking for a pant exactly like this, as the fabric is super lightweight and looks like it would work well in hot environments. However, the fit doesn't work for me. I'm 5'7'', 150lbs, 30 in waist. I bought the 32x30 but the thigh and crotch area is very tight, restricting movement and not good for a hot environment. I have this problem with most pants, but not the Prana Stretch Zion, which is a competing pant. I was looking for a thinner and lighter stretch zion and I guess I'll keep looking.
The updated 2024 pants feel totally different than their previous version that they had for years, which I loved. These felt stiff, inflexible and just plain wrong. I immediately returned them and then scoured the internet to find pants in the previous style which I could buy instead. Luckily I was able to find a pair, but it wasn't easy. Hopefully Patagonia will revisit this redesign.
I wear a 30 in inseam and was happy to see Patagonia offers these pants in a "short" option. Unfortunately, these short pants with a 30 in inseam are much too long. I cannot see how they are actually a 30 in inseam. The pants are also very baggy, too much so for a slim build. I really liked the lightweight material. Shame the fit is off.
The former (2023) Patagonia Quandary pants were my favorite. The pockets, zippers, and gusset were great and very comfortable. I was surprised at the changes made by Patagonia. They are less comfortable and the zipper configuration was lousy. I will be taking these back to the local REI store.
Bought a pair of these in 2023 which i probably wore 300 days out of last year. My daily pants. I wore them daily at home but also in the Sierra, backpacking Desolation Wilderness, Point Reyes, exploring the California cosst. The most comfortable pants ever ans very durbale. After 1 solid year or hard usage they finally developed a hole/-tear in the butt. So i used my dividends to order a new pair this week and i'm happy and thoroughly impressed again.
I have been looking for summer hiking pants for years to replace a now out of production model from Patagonia. I thought I had looked at these before, but looked again this year and they are exactly what I was looking for. So many other brands are catering more to fashion than function and for me at least are tight in the calves or thighs. The quandry pants allow for plenty of movement for scrambling and crawling over things. They are light enough to use on warm days and dry fast after crossing streams. Very comfortable.
Excellent fabric weight, durability, and stretch factor for articulating mobility. Fit and finish is top-shelf (as with all Patagonia product). Generous pockets (two zippered for security) make these a great choice for travel and casual daily wear, in addition to hiking and other outdoor activity. Taper in legs is just right without being too snug. I'm 5'9", 152lbs and wear the 32waist x 30inseam.
My absolute FAVORITE pants for “home maintenance repair”. Been wearing them for 4 months and still no rips! But just in case you do, they come with extra fabric on the inside for that sole purpose. LOVE THEM!
