As a year round hiker I love these pants already. Tried these out during a long hike through the rugged Maine mountains (September 2024). I like how the material moves with you; no issues climbing rocks; lots of freedom for executing any range of motion. The ripstop quality is top notch. I sweat a lot on the trail and I appreciate the breathability compared to lower quality pants. I like the location of the pockets. I’m a chunky guy, 5’10” and these fit very well over my muscular legs and chunky butt. Doesn’t feel too baggy at all. Overall excellent quality!! I’m definitely buying more of these.
I bought this softshell pant for skiing on a sunny winter day (about 45 degree F), and it worked perfectly. The stretch fit provides excellent mobility, making them far more comfortable than traditional heavy snow pants. The water repellent nature keep my skin dry all the time after many tumbles on snow. The zipper at leg opening fit perfectly over ski boots. Great choice as a hiking pant / snow pant on a sunny winter day.
On the website it looks like it is blue, but when you get it, it is black. I already had a black pair and I liked it so I thought it would be nice to have a blue pair.
OK, this pant is the most overengineered, over designed hiker I have ever bought. They are heavyish, stretchy, and have plenty of pockets and features. I truly believe I will never wear them out. I hike and mt. bike in them and they just bounce back. I even do yard work in them and they take a beating with me on my knees digging and weeding. Expensive, but you will only need one pair. Will try them for skiing next! BTW, been an REI member since the early 80's and have owned my share of hikers.
I was looking for a replacement for my beloved 3rd pair of Kuhl Revolvr and these are the closest from all pants that REI carry. Revolvr is a pant that you can wear on the mountain and go out in town and look good everywhere. Very practical with lots of pockets, excelent fit for men, an *incredibly good* fabric both on feel and wear. They were my go-to, everyday pants for the last 10+ years. Please note that Khul came up with the Lawless version after that, more of a winter pant because of the different, thick fabric used, but not as comfortable (I also own a pair). So how the Klash compare... The fit now days is to be tapered and that does not make any sense for a hiking pant let alone for athletic males that need some more space for leg muscle. The manufacturers including Kuhl are compensating for fashion and cost cutting troubles by using stretchy materials. That also implies more synthetic fibers (72% nylon/20% polyester/8% spandex), so the environment suffers. The Klash have the Klassic fit, that is straighter than the trendy stuff, but still not the straight cut, probably why they have to come up with their own name for it. Their description of this fit is "full seat and thigh with a slight taper through lower leg" and that's what you get. Compared to the exact same size Kuhl Revolvr they are tighter everywhere but the waist (have to keep the label size). They are comfortable but not as comfortable as the fabric is pressing on your skin in any position than standing straight. If you are used to that kind of feeling that's great. I do like a bit of give on the active pants fabric but not a tight feel. I'm not in my lycra bike pants. They come in dark grey. Not my favorite but that's the only choice at this time. They are hot in a warm day (not talking about summer hot days here). So that is another problem with the fabric. I never had that problem with the canvas used by Revolvr even in the summer (they are dark olive BTW). Combined that with the tight fit and you can see how this becomes a problem. The main pockets are a letdown, as they barely fit a phone let alone stuff when going outdoor. I guess the trend these days is to put everything in a backpack and have no pockets on your jacket or pants, but I still value good pockets on my pants, not everyone is a trail runner or wants to be one. They are zippered and they DO need them, so you do not lose stuff from those small pockets. As you can see lots of critique for these pants. So why 4 stars? Basically, they are the only pants that I could find at this time that are close to the Revolvr. The pluses: - the cut is as close to straight you can get these days - the material has stretch, good for an active pant - the design is stylish enough so you still look good in town - they fit well on men that have relatively small waist but big thighs - they do have more than 2 pockets - the knees are articulated - the butt is shaped - the crotch is gusseted - they do come on longer leg sizes so you do not have to compromise waist fit for length (e.g. 34x36 instead of the usual 34x32). - they allow for a belt, I love my Kuhl Raid belt, but REI discontinued it - the front zipper has an extra tab inside, (it might be called a French bearer) that you find on high-end men pants, making for an excelent front fit, also found on Revolvr. - the fabric looks good if you like dark gray (time will tell how many years I can get out of one pair). The other pants that I found interesting are the Fjallraven but they are too heavy duty for just day hiking and way too burly for going out in town.
Ever bought something and then didn’t want to share cuz all ya’ll will buy them and I can’t get another pair in my size?
The fit, wear, and look are great! Love the pocket design! Function is on line with kuhl.
Great pants! Well thought out design. I like the zippered pockets for storing items. The cuff of the pants contain a hook that attach to your hiking shoes/boots similar to gators. I’m 6’2” 185 pounds size 34x34 fit perfect.
Great alternative to bulky ski pants. Best part is they come in width and length so I could get pants that actually fit my body. Kept me warm on 10 degree days with howling winds. Highly recommend.
These pants fit perfectly and do the trick in Fall weather. I tried many other pants and none fit me like these. Plus, unlike some high end pants, the waist size goes up to 42 . They are also nice looking enough not to have to bother to bring a of dress pants.
