I’ve had this pack for maybe 2 months tops. Purchased in the US for a backpacking trip through Vietnam. It held up until I got here but after traveling for close to a month multiple secure points have broken, or snapped. The plastic grabbers are too weak. The stitching is too minimal. The fabric has torn in multiple spots as well on the shoulder straps. I’m overall very disappointed and now have to look for a different bag while on my trip in hopes this one won’t rip open on the road. I love the brand and the gear but now that all these influencers have hyped it up, the price has gone up and yet the quality has almost disappeared.
The Aerios 35 is not a particularly good nor particularly bad pack. I've used it now on 2 different trips: 1) Approx 75km in varied weather in Denmark and 2) Approx 225km in modern but dry conditions in Portugal. Like another user, I also use this pack in lieu of my Bora for the lighter, faster trips. Overall it performs well and is indeed quite comfortable. I can recommend this product however like many of Arc'teryx more recent products, inflated pricing and questionable design choices suggest they've moved farther and farther away from the (in my opinion better) choices of the past. The pricing has remained somewhat consistent over the years but the products, not so much. While you can do a whole lot worse, you probably can do a whole lot better as well.
I have done over 500km of fastpacking with this pack and it has worked out great. Everything from overnighters to 5 day epics. The ability to synch it down when not fully loaded has allowed me to run in it carrying 20L~ but having the support needed for a heavier loads. When fully loaded at 35L I still found it comfortable and had the ability to hike fast and even run in it. Easy access to water and snacks up front eliminate the need for unnecessary stops and allow you to travel fast all day.
I love this backpack. I can comfortably use ~42L with the roll top, not including outside pockets. The side pockets provide more generous space, easily enough for me to fit 2 1L water bottles on one side and my tent, poles & stakes on the other. I am not nice to this backpack at all, and besides a few dirt stains it looks like new. Super adjustable and all around solid to carry. I am 5’9 using size SHORT. I also believe Arc’teryx is a little off with the weight as mine came in at 30.4oz w/ the frame.
Overall a great pack. Lightweight and water-resistant materials make it a great choice for inclement weather hiking. Easily enough capacity to get you through any day hike and an overnight. Great side pockets that I use for a large water bottle and a lightweight chair. Good support and ventilation to keep your back from being drenched in sweat. Only thing I'd change is to make the front zipper waterproof. Love the hydration vest style pockets.
This is a pack that really could have been great, but really falls down on some basics. So much great thinking and design went into it, but some key elements are making me return this. The main problem is that I don't have confidence in carrying water with this. To me being able to reliably stay hydrated is really priority number 1. The side pockets have a funky design that doesn't allow you secure water bottles in the side pocket. The first time I put my 1 liter hydraflask water bottle in and then slung the pack on my back the water bottle went flying out. Happened the second time again despite my attempts to tighten up the pocket. It is a low cut pocket with no real mesh or elastic to allow the bottle to be snug. also the fabric is too smooth and the bottle slides way too much. Okay, well the pack has a hydration sleeve, right??? Well, there is no hook or loop to hang the bladder from and trying to get the tube out of the inner pack through the very, very small tube opening is not easy, because there is an opening which is too small and then you have to feed it behind an inner pocket which is secured down by velcro. Way to hard and annoying to take out to refill or even just get in the first time. So basically difficulty carrying or accessing water makes this a no go for me. I love the many other elements which is what is so frustrating, how could so much thought go into the cool, removeable, adjustable waist belt, the great removable and adjustable frame support that allows you carry and distribute weight in a really nice fashion, the nice load lifters and shoulder harness system but then miss so terribly on the basics. Also the Shock cord on the front was also very hard to secure down to keep my windbreaker on the back of the pack. They really should have put a nice stretchy mess pocket there. The zipper sare nice, the pack wears comfortably and hold weight of 15 #'s very nicely. a Comfortable pack. I so wanted to like this, but it just missed on too many basic things that a company like arctery'x should have anticipated
Likes: durable water sheeting material (PNW), enough volume and quick stash side pockets for winter or when the dog is along, close fitting vest for scrambles and runs, daisy chains, adjustable. Dislikes: no bladder clip, meh sized hip pocket, I think the extended roll top is overkill considering the weight limits.
Awesome back pack and exactly as I expected! Just the right amount of space! Love the mesh between the pack and my back reducing the build up of sweat! Material on this pack is great as well! Love how the shoulder and waist straps are customizable! Great job on this one Arc’Teryx
you might wonder how can a backpack cost this much but then you realize you need instructions when you get it. definitely the apple of equipment.
Absolutely love the backpack. Fits on my back like a glove.
