Camping Lantern with Mood Lighting!
A lightweight but powerful lantern. Easy charging (USB-C or USB-A) or use it to charge your phone or headphones. Use it with the legs up - bright enough to play games and negotiate a campsite. It still works with the legs down and is wonderfully compact. Use it for mood lighting - Blue, Green, Red, White and do some mindful breathing or have a disco party. The double hooks on the top are perfect to hang it at a campsite, work area, or in a tent. I'm always frustrated when I pack and unexpectedly turned the on button on my light and realize I've run out of charge - ahh... good job with the lock Black Diamond! I'm very happy with this little lantern - great for camping when you just don't want to deal with fuel or batteries. Charge up and go.
Lantern...disco ball...just call it a party!
I love this product. Not only will it be usefull camping, it's a mood light and disco ball at the same time. No joke, I think the Orbiter 650 has better value as an electronics accessory for a child's bedroom (or a fun adult) than it has at basecamp. Last night, as I sat in my bath and relaxed I used the Orbiter 650's color change mode to enhance my relaxation. It was sublime. Just another of the many uses for this fantastic product. From a simply practical standpoint the fold out legs are great because they can remain steady on uneven ground, which is 99% of the ground in mother nature. The fold out hangers from the top are perfect as well because they allow you to hang the Orbiter 650 from a branch, nail, hook, etc. This then allows for a full on dance party.The campfire mode is pretty nice too. It can help set the mood for you and your partner(s). The ability to charge two devices while also charging the Orbiter 650 itself is pretty clutch, and the product has a great battery life. Overall, Black Diamond hit a homerun with the Orbiter 650. Honestly, what's not to love?
Great Chargeable Lantern !
Love this small but powerful lantern that has ability to even charge your phone. Really enjoy the different color settings. Great for camping or backyard. Just used it camping, worked great. Illuminates well.
Like it, but . . .
This is a decent product. It is lightweight so easy to hike with. It gives off good light and feels sturdy. I also think there are a number of areas it could be improved, including an easier way to attach it to a backpack (perhaps some type of hook on it that could connect via a carabiner). The biggest issue I have with it is that the controls aren't intuitive. While the printed directions that came with it are helpful, I didn't have them with me when I was out with this product - this proved to be very frustrating. For example, it's not obvious from looking at the 2 buttons how to turn the light on and off.
A fantastic lantern to light the night.
I received the Black Diamond Orbiter 650 Lantern from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for an honest review. This lantern worked great! It was used to light a dark cave, to light a snowy trail at night, and also to provide light when I assisted a stranded motorist with a flat tire up the canyon. The lantern is about the average size for a lantern or slightly smaller. The fold-up legs are very helpful, but do struggle to stay open on slippery surfaces. The multi-level light settings are super nice as well as the color settings. My favorite is the campfire setting. The lantern was used for about 2 hours in below freezing temperatures and there is still plenty of power left. It was either on the campfire setting or the high setting the entire time it was used. Being able to charge a phone with the lantern can definitely be beneficial in a bind. It is lightweight and did not weigh my pack down. It is a little big to be carrying on long-distance hikes, but perfect for short outings or car camping. It is now in my rescue kit in my truck and has been used several times while I've been gathering and organizing my gear for winter outings. It is a fantastic lantern. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is due to the legs struggling to stay open on a few snowy or icy surfaces.

The Orbiter is a fantastic multi-purpose lantern with a ton of features beyond just lighting. I really like the lighting settings aside from the standard low & high(although those can be toggled brighter and dimmer within those modes), like the campfire mode. Clearly nothing is better than a real fire but this mode is still pretty relaxing with a realistic flicker. There are a couple of color modes to choose from where you can have it a solid color or rotating through them all, which is fun. The fact that you can also use this as a charging port for electronic devices is nice. I charged my phone over night on it and still had 2/3 blue led battery meter lights available. So seems to have a quality rechargeable battery in it. There is one USB and two USB C ports. When you get to looking at the body you can clearly see where the name might've came from cause it has a classic sci-fi orbiter satalite look especially with the legs down. Nice thing about these is they have rubber grips at the base and I like that in case I need to set it on an uneven surface, they'll grip well. With that said --I am interested to see how well the hinge does in time, at the connection point of the lantern body & legs: between weather, water and usage-- but so far they feel sturdy & quality. The two independent metal hooks on top make easy to secure to the tent roof or a rope if needed. I personally probably wouldn't choose this specific lantern for Backcountry camping but moreso site or car camping just because I find it to be a bit bulky and slightly heavy for that minimalist style. Overall I'd give it a 9/10. Good quality, user friendly and very solid piece to add to the camp collection.
Great lamp for more than just camping!
Love the versatility of this lamp, not only can it be used out camping, on the go or even at home with an infant (yes I have definitely used it for those nighttime feeds and diaper changes). The color changing options are great as is the campfire setting. Or if you’re feeling spicy you can have the color changing mode on and have a little party. I would consider it light weight but the size makes me hesitant to backpack with it as well as the inability to carry it securely outside a pack. I like the ability to charge a device off the lamp while also charging the lamp itself. For me the buttons weren’t very intuitive without the instructions for the different features. Still an overall great lamp!
Well designed lantern
This is a well thought out product. It’s a versatile lantern and USB power source in 1 package. I use this in my camper with the integrated hangers. Unlike other lanterns, it has a down light making it useful as a task light when you hang it. I can hang over the table or the galley area. It also has very stable foldable legs you can put it on a picnic table or uneven ground. The lighting presets include a candle simulation as well as different color sequences. The white light presets work in lantern mode, as a down facing task light or both. The brightness is adjustable for any preset. The UI is good and takes little effort to master. In its second season, battery life is still great. I haven’t used it to charge anything yet but it will be handy to have reserve power.
Great for overnight raft trips or car camping!
I bought this for an overnight float trip, as our group lacked camp lighting for the trip. I'm very happy with this purchase! It provided ample light for the kitchen while we finished cooking dinner after sunset. After that, we switched it to party mode while we had drinks around the campfire. This lantern became our main source of light throughout the trip because of its brightness and multiple options for illumination. It fits great in a . 50cal ammo can or kitchen box for transport down the river. Definitely recommend it if you are someone who goes camping with groups a lot.
Tent Camping was Lit
This light is amazing. Light and Bright. It is versatile and colorful. Highly recommend. I used it in my tent for light. I was camping every single weekend for months for work and this was my go to for lighting.
