Smith  Monterey Polarized Sunglasses - Women's

I bought these December 24 as a Christmas gift for my daughter. She is not hard on things. She just got back from a vacation where the frame split and the lens fell out. I’m wondering if they were old and brittle when I purchased them on from the REI outlet over 50% off?

These are hands down the best sunglasses I’ve tried! perfect for both work and active use like tennis and hiking. The lenses are super super clear, and even with my very high prescription (I usually wear contacts), my eyes feel incredibly comfortable in the sun with these on. That alone is impressive. The design is sleek with a curved shape that gently hovers over the face. It has very thin grippy material on the nose bridge too. I’d say they fit especially well for smaller to medium-sized heads or faces. Only small downside: the legs make a faint squeaking sound when I fold or unfold them. I really hope they hold up long term!

I use mine mainly for driving. The chromapop lenses are beautiful to look out of. They are polarized also. It is kind of embarrassing but I am excited to wear them!

Finally a pair of glasses that can do it all! Causal wear, look great. Can sit on top of my head without fear they will fall and break/get scratched. And of course they do all the sports: hike/bike/paddle board. The polarized chromapop does not disappoint. I have a smallish face/head and have had trouble finding a pair that won’t slide. My last pair was the Smith Eclipse. Loved those, but they slide on my nose and fall off my head sometimes because they are a little big. These fit infinitely better. Never slip down my nose or fall off.

I like the shape of the frames from the front and the lenses are great but they don’t seem to sit right on my face. I find I have to fidget with them a fair bit so they don’t touch my eyebrows but then they feel like they are too far from my eyes. Seems like a weird slant where they are just a little too far from my cheeks and a little too close to my eyebrows. I thought I could manage and didn’t utilize the 30 day return…now I’m regretting that choice. I really wanted to like these.

I like the style, but frame was a bit too small for my face. Uncomfortable for me to wear.

How are these rated so highly? One person even said these changed the way she sees sunglasses; she never knew sunglasses could be so good. I’ve been wanting a really nice pair of sunglasses; I always buy the cheap onces. But I have fairly significant light sensitivity, so I wanted glasses to help prevent headaches and that were comfortable to wear for long periods. After reading numerous reviewed, I could not wait to try these. Wow. They squeaked when I opened them. Okay, fine. So they squeak. As long as they’re comfortable and provide good sun shield, I’m good. I put them on and was immediately convinced that REI had shipped me drug store glasses. They feel like cheap plastic frames. They’re not really lightweight. They call themselves chromapop, but the world looked dull. Maybe I’m being unfair. If so, I will modify this review tomorrow after wearing them while driving to work.

The lenses on these are amazing. They really make the scenery pop, like wearing a photo filter. Comfortable and don't move around on your face. I appreciate that these are athletic/sports glasses but look stylish. Have only worn sailing, trail running and backpacking so far but will likely use for BC skiing as well. Seem durable and the slight wrap gives extra sun protection.

The fit is great! The lenses are so clear and beautiful! The style is exactly what I was looking for! I haven’t owned a pair of Smith’s in a long time and thought it was time to treat myself and I’m so glad I did! These glasses are so worth the price. The only thing I would like to see is a better case to protect these beautifully expensive glasses! Thank you! Tina King
