The shoes worked great in 20-50 degree days without additional insulation. The Goretex breathes well, rarely encountered sweaty feet. I ended up returning the shoes due to fit. I was between sizes and went a half size up. They felt okay while walking, but was experiencing hot spots while pedaling. I have a slightly wide foot with high arches and narrow heel, so shoes are hard for me to find the right fit.
I love the boa but it does not do well in muddy boulder choke gullies such as one finds themselves on occasionally on bikepacking adventures. Boa failed on 2nd day. Sole was very grippy and shoe comfortable but also VERY Difficult to get on with the collar as it is. Definitely kept out dirt and debris, but also my foot...so not so good.
