Excellent, just not on backpack trips.
I really like these skis, but the max length 199s are not stiff enough to accommodate the same weight range as a traditionally longer ski. I'm 180lbs and with a modest backpack, the skis are flattened and have almost no glide. With a lightweight pack and no pack, they're great. It's so nice to be a le to use a shorter ski, which I thought would work for ski trips, but isnt true unless you're having someone else haul in some of your gear. The extra long scaled kick zone is fantastic. I did have one binding break and rip out on a very slow 1-2mph, undramatic fall to the side on flat terrain. REI replaced them, understandably.
