my favorite waste light! It casts light in a very wide angle, terrain and obstacles are easily seen by the shadow they cast from the 3D lighting, there's no annoying "bounce" when moving quick, it's easy to adjust the angle of the light for climbing or descending, and it stays where you put it! I've logged several hundred night times miles with the 600 and it's still my go-to light!
I got the Lumen 600 for a fun run (R3) though the Grand Canyon. I had only run with a headlamp and using this waist belt brought me into the current century. I had it on low power and it was plenty bright for my needs with 8 plus hours of darkness. I can’t recommend this waist light enough.
I just ran the Bigfoot 200 using this waist light. I had a total of five batteries on my person. I used medium setting during four nights and never used the 5th battery. Amazing, versatile light. I have run four 200+ milers using this light. If you slightly unscrew the battery cap, the light is deactivated for daytime storage without the worry of turning on accidentally. Best light period. Very lightweight and so simple to use. Another feature is the ability to tilt the light up or down. I’ll never use anything else but UltrAspire. I used the Zygos pack as well.
The UltrAspire Lumen 600 waist light is perfect for early morning or late night runs. It lights up the trail perfectly and it's so lightweight I almost forget that it's on. It has enough storage to carry my phone and keys. If you have not tried waist lighting vs. headlamps, you're in for a treat. It lights the trail in a more natural way making it easier to navigate tricky terrain.
I swapped out the waist belt for a headlamp strap and it's amazing. Very versatile as a waist light or headlamp. Battery life is excellent.
The term "3D lighting" is no joke. Hearing about and actually seeing this thing in action is unreal. Every rock or dip in the trail now becomes visible. The answer is not always brighter light, its the position of the light. At the head level with headlamps, running in brush or snow is dizzying as you don't see shadows and objects wash out. Running with rocks was tow breaking as well since you have no depth perception and I used to slow way down on anything but roads. With the 600 lumen I can run all night and feel like I see the trail almost as good as mid-day. In tricky terrain at night i love that i can swivel my head and look off trail without losing my peripheral vision of the trail because this is in a fixed position on my waist that is always pointed down trail. I also don't get eye fatigue. Cheaper headlamps that boast high lumen counts are usually a bright white light that makes you feel like you have sand in your eyes almost after prolonged use. I no longer use a headlamp and now only use my waist light. The one caution would be if you plan to do some rock climbing or bending over at all. Then I would have a headlamp. The other caution is the removable pouch. It is ok for some gels or keys but bothersome for a heavier phone. So if you are buying it for that feature then understand its limitations. Also make sure both ends are screwed in tight for the light to turn on. I will unscrew the battery cap a little when not using it as well to keep it from accidentally turning on in my pack. I love the ease of getting this on and off. There are some other waist lights out there but the wires, magnet configurations, battery packs, etc, that accompany those units are a nightmare. They also have multiple failure points that leave me baffled as to why anyone would use one, especially during a race. I can put the 600 on and take it off without breaking stride. The rechargeable 18650 battery is inexpensive and easy to pick up a backup for anything longer than 8+ hours. This will last all night on the medium setting and you do have on the go charging. I loved this light so much I picked up the lumen 850 duo Ultraspire just put out, its even better with a red light option and brighter light!
This is my fave light for night runs. Lasted the entire long November night at my last 100 miler. During my last 100k, all my headlamps died and this light saved me! Light, bright, simple. I had a spare battery just in case and never needed it. Having a waist level light adds depth that's needed for night running.
I have used this light on many ultras and prefer it to headlamps but from time to time combine it and it takes the guesswork out of sketchy trails. I trip less and can focus on my situational awareness with more confidence. I have paced and raced trails in the Virgina Maryland and North Carolina area with the typical rocky/rooty technical aspects that can wreck you. This setup is on my mandatory gear list. Changing batteries is a breeze and I really like the ability to rotate and fix the beam based on how my clothing and other equipment is fitting depending upon the temps. or mutable things that determine your kit. Overall Ultraspire designs all their gear for runners with great foresight since it is a runner that founded the company. The best gear usually comes from sources like this. Lumen is no exception
this 600 Lumen light is the best ever! It produces a large are of brightness in the mountain or road. I would highly recommend this light!
Great fit, no bouncing…you don’t even know it’s on! Light is bright and you can adjust it to where you want it to point. The battery is long lasting and rechargeable which I love! I’ve run so many trails with this light and will be using it in my next ultra too!
