Surprisingly wonderful!

I purchased two of the hooded versions (shaded spruce and ponderosa). The exterior is a bit of a rough material so I wasn't sure if I would like the jacket/hoodie. But, the inside is fleecy, with vent square spaces between the fleece square pattern - I heat up fast when I'm working hard and I was amazed at the heat/cool regulation this pattern was able to provide. The big test I put the jacket through was trekking in Patagonia. Some days were cool and wet, some windy, and some warm. On the cool days all I needed was a base layer and this sweater. Sometimes adding my TNF Resolve jacket for rain or super windy times. I never needed my heavy warm layers. This made packing my day pack super easy and weight efficient. If you can get over the exterior material feeling, which is probably what makes the jacket handy in wind/light rain, I highly recommend this product. The only thing I don't like is the slim fit style. I did need to get a large to accommodate my hips. But most TNF jackets are now slim fit, which is unfortunate but I can modify my purchases to fit ok most of the time. I much prefer the old Standard style fit. Standard fit definitely helped me with sizing and layering since I'm more pear-shaped with small upper and wider hips.

Cheaply Made

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this jacket, however, when I went to wear it for the first time, my thumb went straight through the material! NF would not replace it. Terrible customer service in their part. Disappointed.

Incredible fleece, performed so well. Perfect as is

I wore this hoodie over a bunch of high altitude mountain passes all over the Andes. Over the Huayhuash Circuit, Salkantay Trek, on day hikes and up to the summit of Cotopaxi in heinous conditions. It was a PERFECT fleece layer. Well vented, but kept me warm while walking in cold temps, lightweight and abrasion resistant, packs small. Chest pocket held my phone without sagging. Stayed clean, and still looks new after over a month on the trail. I wore a long sleeve sun hoody underneath this fleece layer. On cold mornings and high passes, I also wore gloves and a turtle fur fleece neck gaitor and I never overheated (I'm a chronic overheater), only needed an additional layer if it was actively raining/snowing or extremely windy, when stopping for breaks or for the summits beyond 5000m. I was hiking in it for 3 weeks straight. I wore it to sleep some nights and it was great for sleeping too~! I've never been more pleased with a layer. I strongly disagree that a mid-layer like this needs pockets. It would be too bulky and inaccessible underneath a harness or jacket. Bring lightweight gloves or an extra layer. Between 4000-5000m I was wearing gloves most days. I think it's perfect as is. Absolutely love it.

Women need pockets too! Should not have to say it!

I had a north face future fleece jacket that I loved. It kept me warm when The temperature dropped below what I was expecting. I did not overheat. I could take the jacket off and shove it in my backpack. It was super light. Never wrinkled. Not waterproof, soft and somehow kept the water out. But after so many years, it is worn out. I've been looking for years for a replacement . But for some reason, your designers don't put pockets in there anymore. That's a dealbreaker. I need a place to put my hands when it's cold. I finally gave up and bought another brand. So disappointed. Hope you get a better design soon and put some pockets in the jacket waist.

Nice hoodie for cool AMs but not harsh winters

I bought this jacket after trying it in the store because it was light weight which is packable for travel, comfortable and I liked the Ponderosa, forest green color and large breast pocket which fits an iPhone 13 easily. It wasn't warm enough to wear alone without layering for colder days in the 40's-50's temp. But if layered with long johns, a jacket, vest, you might be OK. The inside is soft, like a shag rug texture. It washed well in machine cold water inside out and line dried easily in a day. I didn't like that when unzipped, it didn't lie straight like a sweater but opened up a lot at the sides. The hoodie fits well over my head and adding a baseball cap or knit cap will keep you warmer on extremely cold days. I bought a size M and it fits well, roomy for layering for me, 5'3", 129 lbs. I would buy another but it is pricey.

One of my thinnest jackets

I bought this in green because it was Such a pretty color in the store. But it's too thin for me. Good for warm spring- early summers. No side pockets is a real disadvantage. Only has one breast pocket My NF Denali jacket keeps me warmer than this. This one is for layering but too slim fitting to wear much underneath it unless it's thin too. Good as a thin jacket to throw over a t shirt on days with cool AMs, warming in the afternoons. Saw it the next year in a lovely berry color which I prefer but don't like this jacket enough to buy 2 of them and the price jumped considerably.

Every color please

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was first drawn to this because I was looking for a thin zip-up. I work outdoors for my job and have learned how important layers are. This jacket arrived and exceeded my expectations. It is thin, warm, the hood covers around my forehead and chin, and it has thumb loops (the "and it has pockets!" of outdoor winter gear for me!). And, as if it couldn't get any better, the color is beautiful! Ah, thank you, I love it!

I would buy this product again!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this as a layer for hiking and it is perfect. The full zip makes it easy for me to regulate my internal temperature without necessarily needing to stop to take the garment off. It is super lightweight and holds heat in well. I also tend to have issues with full-zip jackets because I have a shorter torso, so the lower band can be too tight. The cut on this is much more forgiving for different body types.

I want one in every color, perfect for a nurse on the go!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] LOVE! I am 5'9 137lbs, I ordered a small and it fits perfectly! I struggle to find tops that are long enough at the waist and the sleeves, this fits! I work as an RN and can comfortably wear this over my scrub top & long sleeve undershirt without a problem. Its light weight but keeps me warm on chilly/windy days. Several washes/dries and no piling or fading!
