Flexible climbing shirt
I am a climber in Colorado and I need my gear to move with me. I typically wear a medium and this top is true to size. It's flattering and I love the purple color. This shirt is a great weight for medium output activities, like climbing, in fall weather. It was lightweight enough that I didn't get roasted climbing in the sunshine (though UPF material would really seal the deal) nor did I freeze when we moved to the shade. It wicks well and dries quickly; I could see this being a great baselayer for skiing or cold-weather hiking as well. It holds up to sharp rocks without snagging and provides full range of motion for chafe-free climbing. Recommended!
Disappointed Repeat Customer
I bought two, one in purple and one in the blue pattern print. I bought both in small and they both fit differently. The purple one fit great, as far as sizing; it was on par with most of their small shirts. The material was soft and comfortable but if you do not wear it with the hood up, it chokes you. It was super uncomfortable!! The blue pattern print had a completely different material. It wasn't soft or flexible at all and felt like it was a whole size smaller!!! I will be returning both!! Don't waste your money on the return shipping!!! I was very disappointed because I love Mountain Hardwear. I wear this brand all of the time for hiking and backpacking!!
Really Nice!
Color and fit are great. I like that the front neckline is a bit extended to provide some protection for your neck. This also helps the hood to stay close around your head. Other hoodie shirts that have wider openings are subject to wind blowing in around your neck and possibly blowing the hood off. Haven't worn it for outdoor activities yet, but will update this review later if necessary.
super soft sun hoody
This is a super soft and highly sweat wicking hoody. It is my new favorite top to wear for aerobic activities and for overall sun protection. The hood fits under a helmet making this an excellent choice for a rock climbing layer. The arms are long and the thumb loops are well designed. This hoody will be an excellent base layer this winter when ice climbing and next summer sauntering on glaciers. It does run slightly big. I got a size small but wish I had a size XS. I am 5'3" 120 pounds, petite but broad shoulders.
Quite the layer!
Being a Climbing Guide in the desert is wonderful - except when you're dealing with the spastic weather in Spring and Fall. This base layer checks a lot of boxes to keep you comfortable during the swing seasons. Thumb loops to keep your sleeves down, full coverage hood to protect against the wind, and uber stretchy material to keep climbing movements unrestricted - it boasts a lot of perks! I am usually in between mediums and larges in tops and found the large to be snugger than other MHW large tops.
Could be better if the seam was in a different spot
I want to like the Mountain Stretch line but the weird seam down the chest/boobs on the women's tops has always bugged me. I wish it had a normal seam closer to the armpits like traditional shirts (or even like the men's Mountain Stretch). A friend of mine has mixed sentiments about the seam placement too, it's been hit or miss for her depending on the particular item. Besides that, I really like the material. It is durable, stretchy and comfy to wear. MH - please just fix the seam placement!
Finally, something flattering and functional!
This is my new favorite baselayer hoody! It is stretchy, sweat-wicking, and super flattering! The material also feels incredibly durable, so I am hopeful that it is made to last! I am an adventure supervisor at a therapeutic boarding school in Northwest Montana, so I am using this hoody to hike, bike, climb, and ski in cool temperatures. My favorite thing about this hoody is the fit. I am 5'5", 120lbs, and I ordered an XS. It fits tightly and close to the skin, and the shape is very flattering which is surprisingly hard to find in a layer like this! The stretchy fabric is so comfortable, and the thumb loops make layering a lot more manageable. I would recommend this hoody for anyone who is looking for a flattering, yet high performance sweat-wicking layer for any and all technical mountain activities.
Multi purpose and comfy!
I love this top. It is very soft and comfortable and I can use it for mountain biking, skiing, skating and hiking. I also think it would be great for cool summer evenings at our lake house near Yellowstone. I am 5"5, 130lbs athletic and the small fits me pretty loosely but still looks nice. I have a very narrow back so in isn't unusual for me to where an XS and I think I will order one more in an XS in purple. This one is yellow and I love it!
Stretchable and soft base layer for windy, cold days in outdoors
I am rock climber and mountaineer. I used this Mountain Stretch hoody for winter sports and rock climbing. Its fit provides great movement, getting sweaty is not issue and the hood as well as long sleeves are a good design. I am usually an S And this S does feels slightly tight but the sun protective fabric is stretchy and I had not restriction in movement. Going up a size maybe too loose. Best part is that I wore this on colder, windy days and it worked brilliantly. The hood fits so well, with its neck thoughtfully designed to give it scuba kind of feel. This would be my base layer, always and cuts out requirement for fleece or wind proof layer over this. Found this ideal for cold weather outdoor activities where you are going to sweat and cant really wear thermals or capeline. Did biking, climbing, running and backpacking and it's my top choice henceforth for base layer.
Best Hoody
I love this hoody. It's extremely funcitonal while also very flattering. It's heavy enough to keep me warm during a cool breeze, light enough that I've worn it on a summer day to protect me from the sun and very soft. It's my go to. I wear it predominantly while bouldering and it's held up to lots of rubbing on sharp rock. Will be buying more
