Multipurpose warm and technical insulated jacket

Straight out of box, this looks like a great technical jacket. I wore this insulated jacket once for a short hike on a cold 37F weather with just a thin t-shirt underneath and it kept me warm. The jacket also has zipper underneath arms incase you need to dump heat from the inside. The 3 exterior pockets are great to store small items when on a hike. I love the color combination and bright color is just vibrant be on the trail or city street. I had to take one star off the rating because of the size issue. I usually wear medium (5'8" 178lbs) and this jacket felt a bit large on the front length and arm sleeve. The area around hip feels tighter due to that but I found that I can use the double zipper to open from the bottom so I can be more flexible. The zippers are solid and no issues while zipping up. I'm excited to try this while I ski soon!

This is a great jacket

The Arc'teryx Men's Beta Insulated Jacket impresses with its comfort and solid construction. Its excellent range of motion makes it ideal for various activities, and the well-designed hood accommodates skiing with a helmet seamlessly. Conveniently placed pockets enhance functionality. While the cuff closure's durability raises some curiosity, overall, this jacket promises outstanding performance and durability, making it a reliable choice for years to come.

Plenty Warm, Versatile

The Beta Insulated jacket is good multi-purpose winter jacket. It has generous cut that allows room for layers and a long hem. The 40-D fabric is much quieter and softer than my burly hard shell jackets. My favorite feature is the fleece lining in the pockets which some of my very nice down jackets do not have. It’s not as feature-rich as a dedicated resort ski jacket but it serves that purpose well. There’s no powder skirt or pass pocket in the sleeve. I wish it had a second zippered chest pocket to keep a pass separated from a phone or wallet for resorts with RFID scanners. It’s fine on the mountain in temps down into the single digits Fahrenheit with only a light fleece layer underneath. Pit zips are also a nice feature that add versatility. Last but not least, the color scheme is easy to spot inside the resort. My only concern is how much dirt and grit shows up on the light yellow color during late season ski conditions when gear tends to get covered in mud.

Awesome jacket

So far only used for family hike to check out some Christmas lights. Temps is mid 20s and kept me nice and warm and dry with only a mid layer. Quality is excellent and design features make sense. Can't wait to use under some more adverse conditions.

Smooth, Warm, Comfy

It hasn't been terribly bitter, but we had down to the low teens fahrenheit and this was quite snuggly. There was some real blustery weather and I didn't feel a breeze. I haven't had enough snow to give it a real test, just some walks with the pupper and hanging lights for the holidays. It feels really, really, nice, the cut allows for lots of movement.

A Superb Option for Winter

The Beta Insulated Jacket is an excellent option for winter activities. Up to this point, I have worn a Beta AR shell year round, and I typically add a down layer under the shell for any winter activities. With the Beta Insulated Jacket, I was able to skip the down and simplify my cold weather kit. This was great for skiing and riding in bounds at resorts and general winter activities. I was a little concerned about losing the flexibility of an extra layer, but I didn’t have any issues making the switch. The Beta Insulated Jacket has some great features that often are not found on an insulated jacket, like large zippered pit vents and goretex. The outer material feels very similar to my Beta AR shell, which is durable, waterproof, and looks sharp. Compared to my size Medium Beta AR, the Beta Insulated Jacket is cut a little looser and a little longer - this helps it fit better over bulky clothing and keeps more snow out while skiing and riding. My only issue has been a sticky zipper, which is a bit tricky to get started. So far, I love this jacket and it’s served me very well during the first few days of the season snowboarding in Colorado.

Great blend of warmth and water resistance.

Have had this for almost a year. Was searching for something more water resistant than my gamma MX that I adore. Excellent rain protection for city use. Haven’t taken it snowboarding yet but suspect I may get too warm in it in the PNW. While sitting outside for 3+ hours watching my kid’s wet baseball games in the early spring, I did get colder than I expected and had to add a mid layer on top of my baselayer. Again, not worried about it keeping me warm in more active situations. Usually wear a medium and accidentally bought a small and it fits very well. I have an athletic but short build(close to stocky) and don’t have any trouble with the arm pits as others mentioned. Love the pockets.

Nice but Ill-Fitting

I wanted to like this jacket as it had everything I wanted but I had to return it. The sleeves are too long which I could live with but the way the pit vents are placed they would dig into my arm pits and made the jacket feel too tight and uncomfortable. Also, the zippers and zipper pulls feel cheap. Last, the outer material didn't seem all that nice and it made a lot noise which I guess is common with membrane-lined jackets but it seemed excessive. For the money I was expecting something better made and better designed as far as the pit zips go.

Nice, but a bit average considering it is Arcteryx

You will get loads of features, but they still don't justify the price tag. Lining feels nice in the pockets, though something similar could have been used in the collar against the chin. For the price I was expecting the jacket to be warmer. I was cold walking in 20F / -7C with a t-shirt and a thin woolen jumper. Seems it is not really a winter jacket for Finland. Luckily I got a large, being 181cm/75kg, there is plenty of room to layer underneath. M will suffice if you don't need room for thick layers or plan to do something more active. I expect to find more use of the fairly low insulation and shell in ice climbing / alpine skiing in the late winter/ early spring when the sun melts snow/ice and things get warmer and damper with still snow around.

Zipper let me down

I purchased this coat whilst on a trip down to Minneapolis. I’m a 6’2” 285lb middle aged Canadian. It was not purchased to climb any mountains, run, hike etc. I just bought the coat because I have some LEAF stuff and it is excellent. I have bought Arc’teryx’s stuff for about 15 years with zero regrets. Back in the hotel room my wife asked to see the coat I tried hiding from her. I couldn’t get the zipper started and she couldn’t either. “Don’t you already have this jacket?” She seemed giddy, like somehow my legendary brand has let me down. They didn’t have another xxf in stock which was a shame as it was on sale with no tax. This jacket looked like my black Beta AR which continues to be flawless. Please upgrade the zipper to match the rest of the garment.
