Fantastic mid layer or external Jacket. Rugged coat that has amazing versatility!
I’ve used the older version of this jacket for the past four years and absolutely loved it. Since mine was getting worn out, I ordered the new revised Atom Jacket and I’m extremely disappointed with the quality. I immediately noticed that it feels and looks cheaper than the previous model. The material is noticeably thinner and flimsier, and the overall fit is larger and less tailored. Unfortunately, I’ll be returning it and waiting to see if a future version improves. I’m not very optimistic, though, especially since Arc’teryx has publicly stated they’re shifting from being purely a technical outdoor brand to focusing more on fashion and lifestyle.
I purchased a size large, as I am 5’11, 195 pounds with an athletic build. The mid section of the jacket has extra room for a larger belly I assume, but the extra space luckily doesn’t poke out while I move around. The top of the jacket is a bit snug on my shoulders and pecs. The sleeves are perfect length and easy to move around. I can tell a difference in the warmth in comparison to other brands. Larger athletic guys beware, I wear a medium or large depending on the brand and I am glad I sized up, I am almost big enough to fill out an extra large in this brand even though I could still wear a medium hoodie from under armor.
This jacket USED to be great. No it sucks. Material, insulation, water resistance went from 5* to 0*. The manufacturer changed the supplier, country where it's made. Stop changing what works. You customers would pay more for quality. No you are loosing your loyal customers forever.
Everyday wear. A nice lightweight jacket with just enough insulation to provide solid wind protection and warmth for a cool/windy day. I love this jacket, clean lines, just the right amount of pockets, collar stays up, fits nice at the wrists and waist. This is my go to spring/fall jacket for everyday wear. However,... zipper has tendency to unzip if I've stop short of mid sternum. So when unzipping half way down the jacket, to maybe allow a little heat to escape, the zipper likely will drop to the bottom of the jacket within a short distance of just walking. So knowing that, I've come to terms that it's either 3/4 to full zip, or an unzipped jacket for me.
I purchased this jacket in July 2025 and have only worn it a handful of times, starting in October and November. Despite very limited use, a tear has developed along the seam without any misuse or external damage on my part. Given the price and the fact that the jacket is only a few months old and has not even been worn for five months, I strongly believe this is due to a material or sewing defect. I would not expect this level of quality issue from an expensive jacket with such minimal wear. I am very disappointed with the quality and would not recommend this product.
I enjoy your products a lot. I have at least 15 jackets. I wish your product line naming system go back to SL LT AR SV etc. they were very scientific and precise.
I have gotten so much use out of the Atom jacket as both a midlayer and an outer layer. I use it to goto classes and work where it acts as an amazing midlayer when its rainy and cold, and also works well as a standalone when there is light rain and/or milder temperatures. Outside of daily use, I took the Atom jacket as a midlayer for skiing and it worked great. It kept me warm throughout the day while also being lightweight and unrestricting. However, during night skiing, temperatures do drop quite a bit and it was a bit cold, but a thicker baselayer than what I was wearing alongside the Atom would have done the trick. Overall, the Atom is an extremely versatile piece that can be used throughout many different activities.
I bought my first Atom jacket a few years ago and loved it. I crushed on that jacket so hard. It almost felt like magic; the durability, the way it kept me warm, the way It looked. Bought a new on last year, cus I for a little burn hole in the other one, and it didn’t even make it a year before it was showing serious signed of wear and the inside stuffing was coming out of all the seems. Ordered a new one for this fall and just received it. After feeling it and trying it on I can’t get over how the material just feels so much cheaper than the soft and supple one my first jacket was made with. I hope this isn’t the start of a major decline from a brand I loved. If I’m pleasantly surprised by the new jacket I will modify my review.
Light and warm jacket! Not the biggest fan of the new design where name is on the back of collar, liked when it was under the logo on chest but oh well, still does job as last model.
