Ultimate winter jacket.

This is the best jacket I’ve ever owned! I’ve had many down jackets, including ones from Goose, North Face, and Rab, but this one is amazingly perfect for winter temperatures from -10°C to -20°C. On those days, all I need is a base layer, and I’m good to go. It’s not only warm but also lightweight, making it great for travel, and it’s waterproof too. One fun fact about this jacket is that when water hits it, it forms a slight layer of ice in certain areas instead of soaking maybe because that day is icy cold, unlike SV Alpha which i also owned, plus it doesn’t add any weight to the jacket and dries quickly. truly impressive quality ! again. what else you need when you have arcteryx. love Canadian

Convert this to a ski jacket!!

So to be honest, I bought this for snow skiing. As for the fit and warmth of the jacket it is exactly what I wanted. I don't even really have to layer for skiing as i just wear a long sleeve shirt under it. (Skiing Alta). It would be an Amazing jacket if they added large zip pockets inside and a ski pass zipper on the shoulder because as of now the pocket on the inside can easily have stuff fall out. Also, needs a powder skirt. (I know... It's not a ski jacket but the way it fits and the warmth truly is amazing! Even as it is now I'm loving it as a ski jacket! I'm 52, 6ft and 220 pounds and fit a Large. The XL is too long as I have tried that one on as well.

Very warm for cold ski days for me, and I LOVE it!

I was hesitant at first, but I absolutely love this jacket! I actually use it on cold days for skiing which works beautifully for me. I wear too thin layers in this jacket. Does everything else for me. It also works on cold days when walking around. This is definitely the warmest jacket i’ve owned and it is perfect for those frigid days outside. You don’t have to layer with this because the down inside keeps you so warm and the zippers are high-quality and sealed from wind. I know this is more of a climbing jacket, but it is great for almost anything that is freezing outside or just very cold days.

Get your own and join the club of happy people

Bought this item 2 weeks ago after a lot of going back and forth in my head if I really needed a jacket with these characteristics living in the lame winter Netherlands. The concluding now after two weeks of around freezing temperatures with some nasty winds is that offcourse I do not need it I do not live in a climate where this jacket really can make use of all its qualities... BUT boy am I still happy I bought the jacked and see myself wearing a big smile when I put on the jacket to walk the dog. Premium quality in the warmth, the light weight of the jacket almost feels unreal and when I put my hand in the front pockets I sigh a little when my fingers are exposed to the soft inside fabric of the pockets.. If you can.... you must!!

Great Jacket When Hiking in the Cold

So happy I got this, I'm a first timer for ArcTeryx. I used my new jacket used it in the Himalayan Mountains. It never got above freezing for the almost 2 weeks there. It kept my main body core steady, My arms were warm enough, no losing heat. I did use the arm pit zippers as there a few times when hiking, I was generating a lot of heat, the "pit zip" are handy and for the most part, they were unzipped. The front pockets are handy, though with the big gloves on each hand, I had to remove my gloves to access the front pockets. The main pockets at the waist for your hands were big and warm and comfortable. I could remove my outer glove, put my hand in the pocket and it was warm, handy as sometimes the finger tips would get cold. All of my activities were related to hiking in the back country. With this particular jacket. three layers is enough.

Great Jacket

Very happy with the purchase. The down definitely keeps you warm in the cold but the jacket still feels light. I would say the fit is true to size. For anyone debating on what size I am 5'11 185 and went with a large. I could have probably sized down to a medium but wanted to leave some room for layering up. The sleeves are long and the mid section is a little loose but everything else fit wise is great.

Unbelievably Warm!!!

This jacket is ridiculously warm. I have no idea how it's so warm being so light and simple. I was stuck b/w this jacket and the Patagonia Stormshadow and I chose this one because the Patagonia jacket is physically large and puffy. You don't need much under this jacket from 35F / 40F and higher. Below 35F you'll want some light layering. I wore this in 35 degree weather with a t-shirt and was completely warm - very warm. It's physically light, packable and super comfortable. I have two negatives and they're not even that bad. First, the sleeves are a bit long. Not outrageously long, but definitely longer than they should be. But I guess that's better than being too short. Second, it's boxy. I'd prefer it to be a touch slimmer versus the boxy shape. All in all, if you can get over the $1,000 price tag it's worth it, especially if you live somewhere where it's genuinely cold and freezing.

Light and warm

I have many winter gtx jackets, Fission SV, Macai and Beta insulation. In the past, I also owned Alpha IS, kappa and Fission SL. I live in Harbin, China. Winter here will reach -35℃. I wear Fission SV in the coldest winter. I think Beta Down can also accompany me through outdoor sports and commuting in cold winter. Red looks good. Unfortunately, Fission SV stopped production.

Love this jacket for multipurpose!

Best layer for wearing on top of all of your ice climbing layers or to cuddle up after being freezing cold all day. I love that it's waterproof and windproof and warm all at the same time. I use this jacket as my everyday winter jacket and extra layer for long ice climbing days. Only thing I wish that it was more packable, but you can't always get what you want!

Great Jacket With Limitations

I was immediately impressed with the Beta Down Insulated as soon as it arrived and I tried it on. It is such a great jacket, worthy of a 5 star rating, which I am giving it. If you decide to spend the money beware of two caveats which led me to having to return the jacket. One is its length, it is right at the door step of Parka territory. It literally came down my backside touching the back of my thighs. The biggest issue for me though was its weight. This jacket is HEAVY, just be aware of that. It is also extremely warm. So much so, that between the weight and the warmth of this jacket it is not one that you are going to want to choose for any outdoor activity that raises the heart rate, you will sweat this jacket out. This is very much a jacket to only stand around in, and for me, I just could not justify the cost for a jacket that limits its use in so many ways. That all being said though, this jacket is indeed a fantastic piece for what it is, 5 stars.
