Works as a personal bag for flights.
I bought this specifically to use as a personal bag for a flight. The main compartment capacity is similar to an extra side of a carry-on luggage. It also features additional pockets with decent interior organization. It was comfortable to carry on my back and the luggage handle sleeve makes it easy to take around the airport too. It fit under the seat in front of me with no trouble but it does stick out a little bit because of its length. The dimensions of the bag are similar to other bigger Northface backpacks such as the Recon, which I've taken on flights, so I knew it would fit. But it may not necessarily always meet the dimensions posted on airline websites. The multiple handles make it easy to pickup from any orientation. My only gripe is that the water bottle holders are kinda of stiff and probably can only hold thinner water bottles.

Great Storage, Uncomfortable Straps
Starting with the good - I love the pockets and organization it provides. It works great as an airplane carry-on. The material is cool, and overall usability of the pack is nice. The reason for 3 stars - The straps are too close together for my size. I'm a 5'11 180lb guy, and it gets uncomfortable pretty quick. My wife likes the way it fits, so if you're a smaller person it should work better. There's also no waist belt, which I think should be included for a pack this size and price. Overall, I'd say wear this thing before making a decision on it. It may not be the right pack for you.

ALMOST perfect

This bag if super nice. BUT, what is the point of a durable, water-proof pack if you split the waterproof material for a water bottle pocket, but don't line the inside of the pocket as well? This becomes especially concerning given that the "water-collection pocket" feeds right to the laptop pad portion of the pack as well. NF, Run the material all the way down and then affix the pocket (foldable envelope of the same WP material) to the back pad with the same webbing used elsewhere; and, at least one bottom/outboard-mount water drain hole on said pocket.. OR don't put a pocket out there at all.

Super HEAVY

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Disclaimer: this review is based on the max capacity load for travel purposes. This backpack can be reviewed as Every Day Carry if stuffed lightly and even though this is not a great backpack for EDC. However. I am 6' and 190lb. CONS: 1. Heavy. even lightly stuffed it is not convenient to carry especially if the plan to carry it all day long. 2. non ergonomic shoulder straps. If shoulder straps would be ergonomic it could compensate the weight of backpack when it is stuffed. Not sure if waist strap would be needed if the shoulder straps would be ergonomic. Removable one wouldn't hurt to be in place though. 3. That bottom of the backpack is not waterproof. The backpack stayed vertically in the trunk where leakage happened from cooler. Sadly the whole interior absorbed water and as a result half of the clothes got wet and internal fleece area of bottom external pocket got heavily wet. on photo trying to dry it out. 4. Laptop compartment is not clamshell 5. Internal mesh pocket could be more functional if split horizontally into 2 compartments. PROS: 1. Durable 2. Capacity- i was able to pack 7 days of summer cloth, slippers and 2 laptops: 17" screen and 14" screen into laptop compartment although it took some effort to take them out having backpack unpacked 3. Front organisational top pocket - exceptional 4. Side pockets are deep and tight. Because this back pack is already heavy with or without stuff - ability to add something like 32oz bottle doesn't make sense. Therefore pockets are good for 16oz water bottle, umbrella or rain jacket. 5. YKK Zippers are solid and smooth 6. ok as personal bag on domestic and international flights 7. Stand-Up design indeed works I would recommend this backpack if it wouldn't be that heavy having such non ergonomic shoulder straps.

Great travel bag, good on hikes.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just used this bag for a trip as a carry on and to go backpacking with. Great compartment space as well as the multiple openings along the bag strapping accessories to. Utilized this to bring camping gear as well as camera gear on a hike and it was perfect. Only issue i had was when overpacking, the bottle slot tore very slightly but that was my own doing. Totally recommend!

great travel bag!

I recently went on a three-week-long trip around Europe, using this bag as my carry-on. It fits SO much stuff in it and can be stretched to its limits if you pack it correctly. I was able to fit my 32oz Owala water bottle in the side pocket with no issues, though it does take up a little of the inside pocket space. The front two pockets also fit an insane amount of stuff, and a big plus is that the bottom one goes all the way down. Love that the zippers open the entire bag, not just the top half like other North Face bags. It's the best travel bag I've used, and I can definitely see it being used as a sole piece of luggage on a shorter trip.

Super Versatile Even for Daily Commuting

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The most perfect backpack, even for everyday commute to and from the office. I thought it would be too big and bill but it's perfect. I carry two laptops with me, along with notebooks and all my tech gear. I have also used it as an overnight bag and as a personal item on the plane one time. It's super versatile and of the highest quality. I have other bags that I thought would serve the same purpose but they're tattered and not holding up as well as this one. This will surely replace everything else I own. Buying one for my partner since I know he's been eyeing it too.

Great general use bag

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this bag because I wanted a water resistant bag to use in bad weather. I really like this bag. It is a lighter version on the base camp material, but still has the toughness and weather resistant features. You can pack plenty of stuff into in and the drink pouches on the outside comfortably hold the half liter drink bottles sold at convenience stores. With winter here I will probably start using this as my work bag because it will protect anything I am carrying during the 5-8 minute walk from my car to my office in the snow and freezing rain. Only drawback is the bag doesn't come in red. I would gladly buy another bag if I could get it in red.

Great travel backpack

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this pack to use as a carry-on. I was travelling and would be moving a lot, so having a suit-case seems like a bad plan. This pack is easy to carry and a perfect replacement for a carry-on sized suitcase. One thing you may notice is that the shoulder straps are very close together, however after miles of walking with it, it is not a problem at all. It is very comfortable to carry. Only minor drawback is that it does not have too many large compartments. There are a lot of small places to slide small things. But if you want to organize your clothes in the large compartment you will need separate packing cubes. Overall great bag though. Would recommend!

Roomy but Uncomfortable

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the storage and size of the bag. I could fit everything I needed to, slid nicely under the seat as a carry-on, and things are easily accessibly during the flight. Carrying the bag is a less than positive experience. The shoulder straps are much too close together. I'm 5'11 180lbs and the bag is pretty much immediately uncomfortable to wear. Additionally at this price point and size of the bag there should be a waist strap. I would try it on before buying, or even go measure comfortable bags that you already own.
