Wowzers!
I already loved Salomon shoes especially their hiking shoes with Gortex. Saw these and thought I’d give them a try. Boy, am I glad I did! These shoes are awesome. As soon as they arrived I used them to pressure wash my house. I felt safe and secure while climbing up and down a wet ladder. They are lightweight, super comfortable, and dry quickly. I’m also thrilled with the color. The only concern I have is if they will be stinky since they will be wet often and I am wearing them without socks. I will update this review once I find out how they hold up after frequent use. I hope Salomon will make more of these shoes in different colors. They are my new favs! I highly recommend you get a pair. You won’t be disappointed.
Skimped on inside materials/stitching hurts
I'm a Salomon girl. I had high hopes for these shoes. As other reviewers posted, these run a full size too big. I'm a 7.5 and a "Salomon 7" (as Salomon runs 1/2 size large anyway). The 6.5 fit me perfectly. However, Salomon falls short on their material on the inside of this shoe. I planned to use this for kayaking/water sports. GREAT design. Annoying "tabs/" extra material on inside/top of shoe rubs little toes in both shoes. Disappointed. Salomon is my "go to shoe." I'm returning. Use better stitching/material, Salomon. This would be very uncomfortable to wear without socks.
Lightweight and Great Features
My first time trying out Salomon shoes. I typically buy Columbia (affordable and nice styles), and I needed to replace my water shoes I use for hiking trails with rivers, streams and waterfalls. The Techamphibian is pretty lightweight. My laces used to always come undone on the trail, so I actually love the no tie laces; great idea and design. I also like the collapsible heel, but haven’t had to use that feature yet. However, I’m sure it will come in handy this summer. These shoes feel pretty good and comfortable so far. I have only worn them a few times, but there was no breaking in period; they just kinda fit well. My only note is the traction could be a bit better. The Techamphibians definitely have traction, but in comparison to my Columbia water shoes and other hiking shoes—they didn’t have the same “grip” on wet rocks and surfaces. Still a great shoe but 3 times the price of my other shoes that seem to have excellent grip and traction on wet and all surfaces. Can’t wait to try them out at Bridge to Nowhere, which is 9-10miles…I’ve only worn them on 3-5mile hikes, so far so good.
Runs big
Ordered the mauve/orange color way in a size 9 and can confirm that these run large. I tried tightening them with the back strap, but still too long. The rest of the fit is light weight and comfortable enough that there would likely not be a break-in period. The orange accent is much brighter in person - not neon, but somewhere in between the color of a freshly shaved orange carrot and ripe cantelope flesh. I most of my shoes are a 9 due to slightly wider feet across the toes area (but not full on “wide”). In running shoes, I’m an 8.5; Hiking boots, 9.5. Will be returning these for an 8.5… might even need to go down to 8? I plan on using them with socks (everyday, easy hikes or to take the dog out quickly) and without socks (an island tropical, wet terrain type of water shoe). If the these don’t work out, I plan on trying the ‘Imaka Trainer from Olu Kai (similar, but without the back strap).
Runs Big
I ordered women’s, in my usual size (8.5) and they’re huge, though from first glance they look awesome. Going to return and see if an 8 or a 7.5 would fit better. Maybe they’re men’s sizes?
Got a Blister Wearing Double Socks!
The TechAmphibians are pretty light weight, well designed and good for summer/water shoes. However, I wore them today and the arch support pinched/added pressure to the inside of my foot/arch area and I got a blister which I hate getting blisters:/ I actually wear Injinji Liner Socks + hiking socks to prevent blistering and it’s worked great and I never get blisters…so I was a little bummed I got one today. I also hiked longer today, 7 miles vs 3-4 so maybe I really had an opportunity to see how they handle longer distances. They’re also not AS comfortable as I originally thought, doing the longer duration:/ For the price I think I might try other shoes and brands out.

Light weight, yet robust
I bought these a month ago and am really pleased with them. They're extremely comfortable, really light, have amazing grip, and I like the optional way to have the heel support. They dry relatively quickly. I bought them for ocean rowing, launching on shingle and mud, and they're much better than the sailing shoes I was using before. I haven't had them long enough to know how they hold up to salt water, I am rinsing with fresh water every use and so far so good. I have also worn them dog walking and cycling. I think they'll be my primary footwear for a trip to New Zealand later this year.
Comfortable and supportive
I bought these about a month ago and have worn them non-stop for kayaking, white water rafting, and hiking. Plus side: great traction, supportive, comfortable even when wet, mostly keeps the sand out and small pebbles out, can swim in them. Slight downsides: will come loose eventually when swimming, will rub the tops of my baby toes if damp. In two hours of river time with multiple swims from one river bank to the other, I may tighten the heel strap once - no big deal as it is easy to tighten. I also find if they are somewhat damp, the tops of my baby toes will rub, causing a blister. I KT tape my toes if I know I am going to be wearing them all day and there may be rubbing - works fine.
I expected better
I am sad these were not better, after two uses they were smelly and do not dry as fast as anyone would like. The smell is so unfortunate, I really wanted them to work, they are comfortable after all. But not good for a water shoe.
Comfort!!
I bought these initially to hike waterfalls, But recently took a trip to Egypt and these were great because you don't have to wear socks so they're breathable, comfortable and I walked 10 to 15 miles per day in Egypt and also Barcelona, they were amazing! And the color was better than I expected, super happy!
