Think twice about this being the only wat to clean water.
Worked great for about the first 10 uses and since then has started to leak. Both around the drinking spout which I can usually manage to solve but also around the area where the press down top meets the bottle. I do not put this in a bag or lay it down due to the leaking. At this point it is almost unusable since it even leaks when just tipping to drink from it. I wanted to love this produce but unfortunately I can not recommend. This has not seen any hard use and has only been used around my office. I will not be taking this out backpacking or on any vacations where I may need clean water. Maybe the new titanium model will hold up better.
Treated and impressed
I field tested with water from a small stream. The water tasted actually like or better than bottled water. So then got the titanium model.
awesome!!
It's really useful and comfortable. Even thou It is a little heavy, but It's almost perfect. I wanna use a little one, next time.
Life Saving Products by Grayl
The new geopress filters are simply amazing. Can't wait to try out the new one way valve. Last time I took my Geopress on trail after 2-3 years of not using it there was residual water in the bottom still that molded the ouside of the cup.. I cleaned it up as best I could in the field and utilized it on a 3 day weekend (as there really was no turning back) with no issues whatsoever. When I got back from my 3 day weekend, I ordered the replacment part and new filters and im genuninely impressed by the quickness in shipping as well as the speed in which I can now press the filter down. Thank you Grayl for an incredibly resilient and soundproof design.
DOESN’T have 1-way valve. NOT drink mix ready:-(
Amazing
This purifier is great! I’ve been able to purify very questionable water and it taste great while backpacking. But this water bottle and purifier don’t work for everything. You need sturdy ground where you can apply pressure. I also like to pack raft and if I need to purify water while on my kayak I don’t have enough leverage to purify the water while on the kayak. I would need to stop and go to land to purify water that is not always possible. That being said this comes with me on EVERY adventure. It is one of my favorite adventure purchases. If I ever needed another one without question about it I would buy one.
Great water purifying system. Very
Great water purifying system. Very easy to use and simple but effective design. I plan on using the system for not just every day use but for hurricane deployments as well. I work as a Paramedic and when deployed into disaster areas often there is no running water available. The grayl is a great choice for these kind of situations and packs nicely in my deployment bag. I plan on purchasing a few more for gifts as well. Thanks Grayl team!
Slow to filter, not fully effective
I’ve been using Grayl filters (Geopress and Ultrapress) for about ten years. I love the design, ease of cleaning, and water storage, and I’m so happy they made the newer generations easier to handle. I use them for backpacking in the Pacific Northwest and I’ve lost track of the number of replacement filter cartridges I’ve used. Unfortunately, in my experience the cartridges need to be replaced very quickly, and filtering slows dramatically after just a few uses. They say it needs to be replaced when it takes 25 seconds to press, but in my experience it reaches that length after about 10-15 presses. For most of the life of each cartridge, it takes about 20-25 seconds to press, using significant core strength and body weight. This year, as prices keep rising, I decided to do the math. I opened a brand new cartridge and right out of the box it took 20-25 seconds to press. Much worse than usual, but still functional. After 12 days of backpacking, filtering 5L per day at most, it is effectively impossible to press. Maybe this one is defective, but 60L is far too low for a cartridge that claims to last 250L. Previous cartridges have lasted me about double that length if I had to guess generously - still not great, but maybe worth it. However, the more concerning pattern I’ve noticed is a loss of efficacy. For the past few years I’ve had mild GI issues while using this filter; nothing serious, but noticeable. I decided to try adding iodine after filtering and these issues magically stopped. Correlation does not entail causation and all, but why risk it? Again, these are consistent patterns despite proper usage, storage, and cleaning. I filter clear mountain water and avoid sediment and debris, so I don’t think this is user error. Otherwise it’s a great design and I hope they keep making improvements, but sadly the juice isn’t worth the squeeze for me anymore.
My GeoPress and purifier cartridges rock!
Almost a year ago now I bought a GeoPress for my wife and and one for myself. We use these things every day! I work in specialty coatings/construction and never knowing what job or location I will be at for the day is almost an every day occurence. With that type of job comes the problem of not knowing what type of water is available to drink, unless I pack disposable water bottles everywhere. The GeoPress and purifier cartridges solve this huge inconvenience for me. Now I don't have to worry about what is available to drink or where I'm going because with my GeoPress and cartridges I have a clean source of water wherever I am at. Now, almost a year later, I won't leave home with out them!
Well crafted product! Very impressed!
I love this company. Not only is the purifier bottle amazing and does exactly what it says it does, but the design of their website, products, and informational materials is top tier. Everything feels intentionally crafted and of the highest quality! And the water tastes great! I love that I can filter it, then add my trace minerals for hydration. Highly recommend!
