Excellent product/ excellent company!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love STS! It’s a brand I trust to keep me safe and comfortable when I’m on a thru hike or just at work. I use their gear for everything and the bags are my favorite!
Great Compression Bag, but would change somethings
The majority of my experinces camping were spent using bulky Coleman rectangular sleeping bags, not because I didn't know any better, but because I couldn't afford anything else. And so, I sought out to conquer this recurring problem by purchasing a compression sack. This worked perfectly and was quite light. However, if I could, I'd change the dimensions so that it would be wider and shorter, which, when packing a sleeping bag, would leave less room for uneven stuffing. Also, I concluded that the purchase of a dry bag was not necessary, as I am never really on the water, but it does represent a little more comfort in my mind.
Protection for a down sleeping bag
I bought this to keep my older and probably not at all water resistant down sleeping bag safe and dry on a whitewater rafting trip. Although we use dry bags, for me this is an insurance policy in case of a seal failure or having to pack up wet gear in the morning. The 8L is a good size for a women's down bag (it would probably be fine for a men's down bag too, but not a synthetic bag which are bulkier). It works best if you try to get as much air out of the bag as possible before rolling down and clipping it shut. The compression works surprisingly well for it being waterproof fabric. While we were lucky with the weather on this trip and I didn't have to pack up a wet tent, I feel confident that this compression sack would protect my sleeping bag in that event.
Zinnia Yellow? My order arrived in "Safety Orange"
My daughter, who is an REI member, purchased this compression sack as a birthday gift for me. She called me and asked what color I wanted (some kind of blue or Zinnia Yellow). Looking it up on your website I saw a nice bright yellow and chose it because it would be easier to find when breaking camp at zero dark thirty. When it arrived, it was what I would call safety orange. Not exactly what I was expecting but accepted it because I can always hide behind it during hunting season. Been shot at twice while camping in primitive areas of the Northeast. Other than that, it works well for stuffing my Alps zero degree sleeping bag.
Holds up in brutal conditions
This is a great product for just about any sport that involves any sort of water. This spends most of the winter on my snowmobile keeping backup layers dry, and has held up really well. These can't get wet extra layers are essential in the backcountry, but I never have to worry about that with this bag. In the summer this transitions onto my bike and can take the wear and tear of being strapped on externally. I had an older version of these bags, but the new one is easier to use and more streamlined. The compression feature is well worth the (minimal) additional weight as it takes up way less space and gives you more options to strap the bags onto other things.
Motocamp recommended
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great quality product I own about 20 of them for myself and the family. When loading my moto bags these turn 7 days of soft gear into the pack size of 3 days. If your limited with space on your bike these are a game changer along with figuring out what can pack down in a regular stuff sack vs what should be compression bag My only gripe isn’t a big deal But the clips are a pain to flip around if they get twisted, it doesn’t effect the function AT ALL the bag still works as intended if the straps twisted it just bugs me and I have to use pliers to flip it around, again not a big deal just a minor thing
Great dry bag, but still prefer a purge valve
Does everything you need it to do. Great build. 70d fabric is tough. Very much waterproof (did not test submersion, which isn't recommended to begin with). The 13L fit my 20 degree down bag (barely). I was able to compress it down to a respectable size. The air purges automatically through the end of bag (eVent fabric) when it is being compressed. You can technically push the air out without using the compression straps, but it's rather awkward to do so. The four compression straps make it easy to make your way around the bag for even compression. I appreciate the PFC-free materials. I do still ultimately prefer a purge valve on my dry bags. No fault to the bag-- just my personal preference.
Great bag, works well!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this bag recently, and first tried it out in the opposite way it was supposed to be used, in that I put a wet swimsuit and towel in it after a pool session, and the outside of the bag (and everything the bag touch) stayed dry! I used it again this past weekend to pack my sleeping bag and pillow, and both fit just fine and fluffed right back up when I took them out. The thing I like most about this dry bag is that two of the straps now have clips on them, which makes it a lot easier to use than the version of this bag I got 10+ years ago. I am much more likely to use this newer version now that I have it, as it's super easy to use, and seems to work really well in terms of keeping water in/out.
One month backpacking in New Zealand
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Spent a month backpacking through New Zealand, and with all the rain, this compression dry bag was perfect for my sleeping bag! Took it through multiple days of non-stop rain and held up well. Ended up buying two! Strapped it right outside my back. Would highly recommend to anyone!
Durable and User Friendly
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Light water resistant, seal decent, and assembly simple. Only challenging aspect was folding seal (more rigid than expected) when bag not filled to capacity- stuck out at sides making top uneven. Overall, highly functional and great for compressing sleeping bag and clothes!
