Recently purchased this as my first Osprey pack because I wanted a midsize day pack I could use for my longer day hikes. I grew to love the love the color, wish I could find day packs in fun colors like shades of Hot Pink, the size of the bag is great and it has all the features I wanted but I can’t seem to get past the way the inside top pocket under the zippered compartment was built. It lays “upside down”. The way it was built causing anything I put in it to slide out and fall into my sack which is pretty annoying. I’ve used the bag a couple of times. Feels great on but this design bothers me enough to where I’m considering on returning it.
I was about to write a bad review, then read the tags carefully. It says that this is made for short women, of which I fit the bill at 5 feet tall however the torso is too short for me. Then I was going to complain about it being small elsewhere, but I must have mis-read the tag when I purchased it. I thought it said "short, curvy women", it actually says "short, narrow women". I am 136 lbs and larger breasts. I will probably return this, it barely fits me. The torso is too short and the chest area barely fits. Otherwise, I find this to be a wonderful pack, light weight, decent pockets, exactly what I need for a long day hike. Love that the hydration reservoir is behind the pack, not in it.
I am disappointed in this pack. Pros: I like the size and it being a top loader. It fits my winter day hike gear nicely. Cons: I don't like the attachment for the poles. I miss the elastic bungee type thing that secures the poles on my other Osprey packs. I also do not care for the hydration system that came with the pack. The control level accidentally opened twice draining some of the water. I never had that issue with my other system.
I was looking for a lightweight backback with larger carrying capacity for my longer day hikes, and this fit the bill. I haven’t taken it out on trail yet, so this review is just to point out key differences from the previous version of this model. - Zipped side panel pockets have been replaced with open mesh side pockets. - No raincover included - No bottom zipped pocket where the raincover was located. - Includes a 2.5L hydration bladder
Barely noticed it was back there. Mesh pocket is weird and difficult to access. I'm 5'6 180 and it worked great for carrying too much unnecessary stuff on a 5mi hike.
I bought this pack in 3/24. The fit was good, so I bought. Discover odd designed, the mess pocket inside the pack is horizonal, instead of vertical. Hard to put your cars keys on a horizonal designed. The worse is it does not have a way to secure pole. I made do, huge mistake Today I went to return the pack and buy another the Osprey pack the tempest 20. REI did not accept my return stating it had been used to much. Yes, I have used this packet about weekly, however is was going to another another Osprey back of equal amount. Dissatisfied with pack and REI, satisfaction not guaranteed.
I’ve used this pack on day hikes and multi-day treks. Pros: Lightweight, good fit for short and narrow women (I am just under 5 ft and weigh 96 lbs). Daisy chains are a useful feature to attach cords and straps. Cons: The side mesh pockets are too wide and even my 32 oz Nalgene bottle falls out when I’m taking off / putting on the backpack. I lost a couple water Nalgene bottles already. Also, no bungee cords, but can attach your own.
Perfect for a day pack. I use it for high alpine fishing. Hydration system works well, no leaks. The amount of storage is enough for my fly fishing gear plus typical hiking supplies. Would buy again
I had an older version of the Skimmer that I sent in for zipper repair. Osprey couldn't repair that pack, so they sent me this updated version as part of the lifetime guarantee. I like this version much less than the old one- it's smaller, has fewer pockets, has one less zippered hip pocket, and only comes in muted colors (my old Skimmer was bright orange for visibility when biking). Additionally, the front shove it pocket is too shallow (this was also an issue for me on the previous version). I had items fall out during travel that are now lost .The most basic function I expect from a backpack is to secure my items when inside. I'm disappointed in this pack. The only improvement is enhanced airflow along the back compared to the previous version.
Loving my new back pack with the water bladder. It is light weight and more than enough room for what I need to carry . I’ve never had a water bladder before and I’m really enjoying the convenience of it . I also like that my hips carry the weight and not my shoulders .
