TL;DR: If you need a faithful pack for all but your most involved adventures, you've found it!
I bought my Manta 34 from REI almost a year ago. In that time I have used it for ice climbing with full kit, day hikes, camping, and lightweight multi-days in the sun, rain, and snow, rucking with 45+ pounds, work, long weekend trips, extended travel abroad, and more. Though I'm lucky to have several options on hand this is always the first pack I grab because it is truly a "do-it-all" piece of gear. It's light-weight and expands and condenses readily, including a surprising amount of "bonus" space when not using a hydration bladder, and the outer pocket's organizational system is perfect for setting up your smaller gear for easy access. The outside of the pack has a large amount of expandable stuff space in the elastic pockets and plenty of solid points for clipping things on. The whole bag is highly adjustable and comfortable through extended use, sweaty or dry, and the material breathes well providing plenty of cushion while cutting down on moisture retention. It's to be expected from Osprey but the pack's durability has been outstanding; I have not been kind at all to it and have had no issues with material degradation or fatigued parts. I can tell you the rain cover is very effective too having been soaked several times myself but ending up with mercifully dry gear! I haven't owned the smaller 24, but if I had to guess you are going to get even more use out of the 34 because of how easily it cinches down when you don't need all of the space. Pull the trigger on this one; you won't regret it!

Bladder failed bag is great

The bag is great works perfect for an archaeological dig. The included bladder failed on day 2 by developing small holes near the closure on the bladder. Don’t want to send entire bag back but I thought no problem I’ll just email rei and they’ll send me a new one for the old one back. Rei emails me back to call them?? A. Why? B. I’m in a dig site I’m not spending time on the phone for a 30 dollar product. So minus 3 stars for bag failure and less than stellar service from REI. The bag itself is top notch however.

SUPER COMFORTABLE (even when loaded)

I needed an all-day 14er pack, and this is the one! 1.The ventilated AirSpeed back suspension is plush. 2.The hipbelt with is padded and comfortable, even with a load (and has pockets, too). 3.The torso length is easily adjustable and takes about 20 seconds. 4.I don't use hydro bladders, preferring instead to carry 1 liter Nalgene bottles.The bottle sleeves are well designed with an option to carry them at a 45 degree angle, which makes for easy accessibility without removing the pack. (For you oldsters out there, my previous favorite pack was a 65L Dana Designs pack I bought back in the 90's. The Osprey Manta 34 is my new favorite) pack!)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Stellar pack as was my Manta 36 - with some notable changes and improvements. E. g. , - Instead of the mesh basket in the main compartment, the front compartment is larger with a zippered compartment. Works VERY well (the mesh basket in the large compartment did not hold things all that well). - Hip belt clip is larger, which is good - Chest clip is different, addressing the challenge that the old type was prone to breaking. We'll see how this one hold up. - Adjustability of pack seems better, though might just be that I had my Manta 36 for so long that I don't remember adjusting it to get it right! Thank you Osprey for being awesome!

Fantastic bag, you get what you pay for every detail is well designed. I am able to get my gear into this bag for a 3-4 day trip in warm weather conditions. Fits as an overhead easily if you are taking a flight. the cost is high because this bag is top quality and have a sturdy lightweight frame with a breathable backing (my favorite osprey design).

I purchased my Manta-34 about 4 years ago and have logger over 300 miles on it under harsh desert conditions with no issues. (NOTE: Proper cleaning following Osprey instructions is required to keep zippers and straps operating smoothly) I upgraded to a 3.0 liter Camelbak Military bladder system ($54.00) as I prefer the bite valve system with a hose mounted shut off valve and insulated hose. My typical loadout is 25#-30# as I carry 2-20 Oz water bottles, trauma medical gear, and reserve equipment for less prepared people. I am ordering a new Manta-34 for my son when I finish this review.

Took this pack out for a couple of long day hikes and it is so comfortable. It does take some messing around withbits adjustability, but one I found the sweet spot, it became a perfect fit for me. I was looking for a larger daypack with a stand off mesh style back and this fit the bill. It is on the pricey side, but it is worth it to me when compared to the cheep pack I upgraded from.

Great Pack but with a weak point

Great backpack overall, but the bite valve on the hydration pack is poorly designed. It leaks heavily if left unlocked and the locking mechanism itself is thin, brittle plastic and broke on my six or seventh day trip. A replacement bite valve will run you $9 and, at this rate, I expect to go through about 3 or 4 of these over the life of the pack, so factor another $30-$40 for replacement parts.

I love this pack. Used it hiking 430 miles over 31 days. The fit is awesome and I really appreciated this after walking all day. It fits like a glove, hugging your body (probably the best point). The straps are well padded and comfortable, and I love the air speed suspension system it kept my back dry all day. The pockets provided are easy access and the zips super strong. The water bladder is great to use, I only wish the mouth piece came with a cover. The main down-side of this pack is that it won't sit upright by itself when I put it down. It always topples over so I had to lean it against something to pack it or access it which was annoying. Otherwise I would recommend this pack to anyone.
