Took this pack on a three week trip May 1 - 21 in the Scottish Highlands, on the Cape Wrath Trail, climbing many hills, etc. The pack fits great, but the problems are with the load adjuster/lifter straps, that are at the top and keep the pack in place and from swinging back and forth, but they loosened consistently. I fixed this by tying the straps in knots to keep them from slipping. Should not have happened at all. It was very dangerous to have your pack swing back and forth pulling you side to side while scrambling up rocks. On the ladder that holds little rubber knobs to keep your shoulder straps in place so your pack fits you. I am a small but at 16 inches. There are five holes to slip these little rubber knobs in. It came out every time I removed my pack. I ended up using a rubber twisty tie to hold the knobs in place. Lastly, the hip belts continuously loosens, that wasn’t as big of a deal, since they are easily tightened. When I called Osprey to let them know what happened on the trip with their very knew $290 pack, they said they were aware of these issues, but there was nothing they could do. They would be addressing these issues in their next production. I asked when that would be and they said probably not for a year as these just came out. They did not offer a discount, would not accept it back to adjust or fix. Told me to return it to REI if I wasn’t happy. Thanks OSPREY!
Just did a 3-day, 32-mile strenuous hike with this pack and I was so impressed. Although is is ultralight, it carried my 26 lbs comfortably. It even fits my Bearikade Weekender horizontally in the size S/M! Appreciated how many adjustments it offered, especially the ease of changing the torso size. Concerns about items coming put of the left-hand hip belt pocket were unfounded, all stayed inside. It was comfortable and did the job well!
Tried many UL packs. Due to frameless design, frameless pack tends to hit exactly where i dont want weight.have to buy online. Like shoes require good fit. Have lumbar fractures; safer to have some structure there. For a few more grams, ive a structural complete, comfortable fully loaded pack. Compression straps a bit fiddly; also no way to stow poles; internal hydration only compatible with their pack. Otherwise pack works for me. Tried it out recently. Practiced Fully loaded with about 20 lbs. carried better than heavier packs. Invested in UL tent, Sleep system. Am female, 119 lbs, over 70 yrs. Recommend. Decent pack hybrid bridging gap between heavy frames and frameless.
A through-hikers dream! I was looking for an ultralight pack specifically designed for women and there are very few options. However, this pack delivers. It’s amazing that it has the full support of the mesh back panel at under 2 pounds! This pack feels just as comfortable as my other much heavier Osprey Aura. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on pack features and plan to use this over the Aura for future trips. This pack got me comfortably through 500 miles and 30 days on the Colorado Trail with no wear and tear. I couldn’t be happier with it!
I own several Osprey packs of different sizes. As I was looking to go longer and farther I needed a bigger pack. It took some time to fine tune the fit bit it’s worked great for several 3 day/2 nights. The fact it’s starting weight is lighter works great since I don’t want the total weight to be much over 30# I will say, if you Stick a water bottle in the side pockets you’ll have to break your shoulder to reach it so I use the bladder only. I’ve added additional storage by taking paracord through the top of the lid to put my helio chair
I will be back for V2 of this bag, but am returning this one to the store brand new. I liked this bag, and felt that it carried well around the house. I think it carries better than the Eja 58 non pro. My problem with the Eja Pro is that it does not have enough tension in the back panel. My back touches the bag. If I have a bladder in there it touches and feels cold. I may as well have a padded non mesh back if my back is going to touch this much. It touches less in the Eja non pro model, and not at all in my Aura. My other complaint is that the zipper pocket on the right hand side requires two hands to close. Both the Aura and Eja non pro versions have hipbelts that only require one hand; seems odd they did not carry it over to this one. The compression straps are better on this one than on the Eja non pro. They come in two parts instead of one zig zagging all the way losing tension with each zag. The tall skinny shape of the Pro bag seems to carry better than the Eja non pro in the 58L, which carries a bit sloshy. But the mesh backpanel caving in and making contact all across the back was uncomfortable and a definite dealbreaker. Also the hipbelt is very skinny, although it did not bother me with 30 lbs loaded in the bag. If Osprey fixes the backpanel tension in the next model I will buy version 2.
I've done over 200 miles with this pack and couldn't be happier. It works like a fully featured pack, but with an ultralight weight. The only issue I have had was when I loaded over the max weight on long water carries on the TRT and bruised my hip bones. Now I know to pad with clothing when I'm over 35lbs or so. Other than that, no complaints. Super comfortable and easy to use.
Not sure why. I did an entire through hike with this pack. Think my opinion should count. Good: small shoulder straps for my small frame. Removable lid Bad: the straps keep loosening. I had to tie in knots. The second version of this pack is a major improvement, I only have to tighten every mile instead of 1/4 mile. Pack will fall apart. Mine did. Carrying load is 15-25 lbs. pack was very uncomfortable at upper end of the range. I had to add extra foam so the hip belt would close over my hip Otherwise there was about an inch of space on tightest setting. I’m 5’3” and 105lbs. Not enough cushion. They made this pack light by removing things, not using lighter materials like DCF.
This pack is ALMOST perfect, and I'm (mostly) really happy with it. Pros: - It's light. Super super light! It's almost as light as my husband's Zpacks pack. - It's roomy enough, with nice storage options. I recently used this on a backpacking trip where I needed extra room for winter clothes, and this pack made that easy. - It is unbelievably comfortable. I've tried so many packs, and most end up making my lower back hurt. I've packed this down with about 29-pounds worth of gear (the upper limit of what it's supposed to carry) and still found it comfy. Cons: - I hate the color. Like, hate hate it. I wish the Pro version came in the pretty turquoise that the regular Eja comes in, or some other bright color option. - This is a bigger con- the torso adjuster toggles pop out of place. For now, we've rigged it with plastic washers (homemade) and that seems to stop the issue. - Another bigger issue- the shoulder adjustment straps also wiggle loose. I've gotten into a habit of checking them periodically. - Minor cons- I wish this pack was offered in a different fabric (like Ultra or Dyneema), even if that version cost more. My husband's Zpack bag is more waterproof and durable than the fabric on the Eja. I'm hoping that Osprey releases an updated version soon fixing the torso toggle and adjustment strap issues. Overall though, this is my favorite pack yet, and I'm still very happy with it!
I love Osprey packs. I ordered according to the measurements offered. It was too “short-waisted”. Sending this BP back. I plan on ordering the next size up. Giving four out of five stars just due to the sizing discrepancy on the description. I’ve always taken a small or extra small. Don’t think being a young 64 years old I would grow anymore. In fact, probably have shrunk lol!
