I was excited for this backpack because it is big enough to hold everything you would need for a full day hike but not too bulky to use for a more leisurely hike or as a personal item for airline travel so it doubles in function for traveling. There are multiple straps you can adjust to get your perfect fit easily. i was able to get it fitted snugly but still having airflow between the back and pack. I took it on hikes in Indiana in August and was able to wear a tank top without experiencing irritation on my shoulders from the straps. I tested it by packing everything I would think I could want for a long full day trip and extra. This pack fits so much more than expected. I love the pack zipper compartment for books or journals (also handy for flights). I was very excited for the hip zipper pockets for my phone (to access quickly for photos) and sunglasses etc. Unfortunately, although my iPhone 13 did fit, it was very difficult to remove and replace while the pack was which to me defeated the purpose. I would like to see these pockets slightly lager and easier to access. I do, however, like the size of the side pockets where i had a water bottle on one side and my hiking sticks on the other. There are adjustable stops above these pockets as well for extra security. Often these pockets are not large enough so I was happy to see my water bottle fit easily. Overall, I would recommend this pack as it is multifunctional for travel and hiking and most importantly, comfortable.
I took this pack for several day hikes as well as used it to carry my laptop back and forth from work. For both things it was great! It’s not a totally weatherproof bag but it did keep my laptop protected during a five minute walk in rain. It’s also easy to clean. I found this out after going down in the mud on accident and the bag wiped clean really easily just using a damp cloth. I also didn’t realize at first it has an adjustable back length. There’s about 2.5” you can adjust. And it’s designed well enough that even after several times of adjusting it the Velcro was still very sturdy and it didn’t slip. I also really like that the water has its own zipper pouch instead of just a pocket inside the main compartment. This is great for routes you have to refill water on because you don’t have to empty the entire pack just to slip your bladder in and out. I found the hip adjustment comfortable. It had good length and also could be adjust much smaller than my size. I was surprised this was a one size pack but the adjustability it has is great! I was pleasantly surprised that it could fit both myself and my sister who is 6’0” and weights 220lbs (US 18). The only thing I didn’t love is the lack of rain fly. If you get caught in a long heavy rain you’re going to get some moisture coming through especially around the zippers.
I am extremely disappointed in this pack. I have an older Maya 16 but needed more space for day hikes now that I have 3 dogs. I noticed right off the quality had changed but still fell in love with the pack. 2 hikes later the straps, that run horizontally across the backpack straps were shredded. One held my Garmin Mini, which would have been horrible to lose and the other supported (or failed to) my bearspray. I have successfully carried these two (the Mini weighs virtually nothing) for years with my lMaya 16 without incident. So disappointed, because I really did want to love it.
I have a Maya 16 which I bought a few years ago and I absolutely love it. When I bought this one (Maya 25), I noticed a few of the accoutrements were missing (like the sunglass holder), and it just didin't feel as sturdy and well made. Well, 2 hikes later I was proven riight! The horizontal mini straps that go across the backpack straps have torn off already. For years I have hung my inReach mini on one of those straps on my Maya 16, and a can of bearspraay on the other. They have held up well. Now, after only 2 hikes those straps are hanging by a thread. Imagine if I would have lost my inReach! The quality of Gregory backpacks has gone completely downhill. I'll stick to Osprey from now on. So disappointed too. I love my Maya 16 and was hoping to love this one too.
The good: -I absolutely loved the size of this - especially the side pockets. The bad: -Ripped in multiple areas after 4 hikes. The bottom of the hip pocket just split open and the shoulder bungie ripped off one side. I only had my drinking tube through it so there was barely any pressure and I don't overload my hip pockets. It's like they didn't allow any seam allowances which really puts into question the rest of the seams. -The shoulder strap extra / length of the shoulder straps hits right at the soft spots on my arms just rubbing them raw. I've never had this issue with any other backpack and I have multiple. Gregory wanted me to ship it back under my expense to fix it. Thank goodness for REI return policy.
I received a beautiful, navy blue bag with teal accents, and my goodness, this thing is a gizmo of a bag. The straps and structuring work out to a very usable, comfortable bag for travel, worlds above an old bookbag. There is one main compartment, a small forward compartment, a stretchy front pocket with a strap holding it closed, and a flatter back compartment that holds a tablet and some accessories well. The structured design is noticeably comfortable even if you don't use all the straps, letting much of the weight rest on your hips. In my pics, I filled it with a few days of clothes, a non-ultralight summer sleeping bag, an inflatable sleeping pad, a light cook set, and a first aid kit, and you can see there's room. I also added a dad cap for scale in one. I later replaced the camping stuff with other things and took a multi day trip that involved walking around town a lot, and it was a champion.
I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I’ve been looking for a new day pack that I could take with me on hikes. For myself, I’ve been spoiled as I was hoping for something that would wick sweat and offset the weight (as I tend to over prepare for myself and now my new dog). The one thing I might double check is making sure the fit is right? I’m 5’3” and worried my torso was a little short for the pack. But other than that, I loved all of the compartments and pockets. The mesh front held my pup’s water bottle, I could carry two full water bottles for my partner and I, and there was a sleeve for a hydration pack too. The interior was super spacious - the perfect day bag for a solid hike. Would recommend and encourage you to try it on for size.
The pack will suffice for a day hike but by no means a heavy duty day pack. Osprey in my experience has better packs. The material is thin, flimsy, and has a huge lack of pockets...bummer
I have a Maya 16, which I love, so bought this as a replacement because I now need more room (I hike with 3 dogs). I love the fit and comfort and everything else about it, but was so disappointed when, after 2 hikes, the horizontal straps that go across the backpack straps were shredded by my water hose and bear spray on one side and a Garmin Inreach mini on the other. I have worn this configuration with my Maya 16 for years with no incident. Quality has gone downhill, or is this a faulty pack?

I have a Maya 22 that I love and was excited when the newer models came out. I bought the 25L for an upcoming trip to Spain. The back panel was different than the previous model but overall the fit was ok. The adjustable panel for the torso length is different than in the old 22 , shorter and it forms a bulge in the back that if not using a water bladder can be uncomfortable. The Velcro doesn’t stay in place long even when not fully packed. When using the pack every day this is a problem. The top handle started detaching on day 2. Maybe I got a defective pack, as my 22L is still going strong.
