The Gregory Jade 28L is a must for anyone like me who has multiple hobbies and looking for a pack that works for them all. This has been great for day hikes, hammock camping, rock climbing and of course general travel. The free float suspension is super comfortable and helps when carrying heavy weight. The adjustable back panel allows for a very precise fit, letting you keep the weight in the right spots. Easy access to the large hip belt pockets, shown in the pictures to show how much room I put a food bar and phone. The trekking pole holder is a first for me to actually be able to successfully use it for my trifold poles, not too distant from point to point as I’ve noticed on other packs. The large main pocket has the capability to hold a camelpak as well. If you love multiple pockets, zippers, buckles and straps, this is the pack for you. It allows for great organization and even has a strap on the front center of the pack I use for my biking or climbing helmet. Great investment and the durability will last me for many adventures to come!
I received this backpack from REI in exchange for my honest review. This overall design and details of this pack are excellent, in addition to the comfort and fit. At first I was a bit unsure if I liked the full “U Zip,” but I like the straightforward access to my contents in the pack and the minimal pockets inside. Speaking of pockets - there is only one small pocket inside. The remaining pockets are on the outside, including a spacious zipper pocket at the top, water bottle pockets, and smaller zip pockets on the waist belt. There is also space for a water bladder on the back. Speaking of fit - when picking up the pack, it definitely feels very rigid and stiff. That’s definitely not a deterrent for comfort, as the pack fits extremely well with no imbalances to note in fit or weight distribution. The waist strap feels thick and supportive in addition to the shoulder straps. In terms of style - I also love the color, and the bag size itself doesn’t feel overwhelming, bulky, or hiker forward looking.
I probably shouldn’t like a backpack this much. The pack has a surprising amount of space allowing for tons of organization. It’s configuration with a U-zip, large and medium pockets on the front of the pack, small pockets on both sides of the waist belt, plus two large side pockets that will securely hold water. The deepest part of the pack is perfect for bulkier items. With the multiple outside pockets, accessing the little stuff couldn’t be simpler. At first, I was a bit unsure if the pack would hold everything needed for a 3-week trek on Spain’s El Camino, but the pack provided. Packing was easy. The backpack is extremely comfortable for long walks. The frame’s floating suspension allows air flow—perfect for warm days. The pack sits nicely on the back without any rubbing or squeaks. For long walks, this Gregory backpack is perfect. It oozes durability and quality. It barely sustained a scratch after weeks on the trail. Plus, it fits perfectly in the overhead airplane bin
This pack has several thoughtful design features that make it my go to choice for day hikes and adventures. Fit is perfect! The suspension system does a great job of distributing wheight evenly and the shoulder strap are padded for additional comfort. Comfortable on my dirt bike too!The main compartment is large and easily accseible by the zipper design. The smaller pockets are great for oranizing your gear and keeping things you need quick acess to within reach.
This is a perfect "everything" pack. It's great for day hikes in Colorado, as a carry-on for travel, a day at the zoo with the kids, and a day at the agility course with my dog. It's the right size for extra layers and gear plus food for the day. I know this is nit picky but it also has actually usable water bottle pockets! I carry liter-size bottles and it is increasingly difficult to find a pack that fits these. They also conveniently carry dog toys for agility days. The hip belt pockets are also great for keys, chapstick, and a couple of snacks. The torso length runs true to size and that works for me as I have a very short torso. It's incredibly comfortable for smaller folks. A couple of cons: if you like a lot of organizational features - small pockets, key rings - this pack is probably light on features for you. The wallet pocket is too small for my wallet and phone at the same time. The pack is also not water resistant without treating it. I should have used a rainfly or done some water treatment before hiking in the rain.
Tio: I didn't know this when I bought it, but there is a velcro panel that is attached to the shoulder straps that makes it adjustable for size and maximum comfort. I really love this pack!
Used it as my daypack for Ring of Kerry and it has Held up to 8 long stages Plenty of pockets to organize I had to purchase a rain cover but loved I could adjust the fit
This day pack is a great addition for any outing! I’m a single parent of two littles and we have used this pack for trips to the beach and zoo. Also great pack for a long or short day hike. There is plenty of space to accommodate layers, snack, water, and everything you need to be away for several hours. I was nervous that the size would be a little small for me but the adjustable suspension shoulder straps allows for me to make the torso longer and the hip and chest strap fit perfectly. There is a nice clip on the shoulder strap for a water line from a bladder. Also hip pockets are great for quick access but I’ve only been able to keep keys and phone in them. There are two water bottle pockets in addition to a space for a bladder. These water bottle pockets have been great for when I have the kiddos with me. Overall a very versatile pack that meets so many needs! I would take it to the mountains and to Disney!
I wanted to love this pack and really have tried hiking with it. The frame squeaks the whole time I hike. It's so loud that I can not hear my surroundings. The squeaking is so obnoxious that other hikers wait for me to pass and I feel very embarrassed. A hiking partner asked me not to bring it anymore and I end up with a headache near the end of a long hike. Maybe I have a defective one... so disappointing.
I had the same experience with this pack as the review from amber with the squeaking. It was brand new and had a loud squeak with every step I took, coming from the frame in the bottom of the pack. Gregory attributed this to having debris or dirt in the fabric, but the pack was new and unused. I thought it would go away but just got worse with the miles. Could be a manufacturer error with only some of the packs, but I had to return it. Good fit otherwise and is comfortable.
