A compelling design with serious flaws.

Received free product

This is an interesting jacket, conceptually. It is a compelling alternative to synthetic action-oriented layers, trading some additional weather consideration for fabulous compressibility. This is especially appealing to me as insultation for trail-runs up in the mountains, where the bulk of synthetics can be annoying in a smaller-volume running vest. I can also see this becoming my go to insultation piece to bring along on summer hikes. This role is currently held by my trusty Atom LT. But as you can see in the pictures (Cerium Hybrid stuffed into its included sack on left and Atom LT on the right stuff into its hood with 20oz hydroflask for reference), the Cerium Hybrid does compress smaller, saving precious volume in your pack. I almost always have a light rain shell with me, so the weather limitations of down do not concern me overmuch. Plus, the hybrid synthetic / down / softshell construction of this jacket reduces this concern even further. The paneled design also allows this to be a piece used during activity if you experience temps that would warrant it. I think these panels could lend the piece to have some interesting applications during winter pursuits, but I have obviously not yet been able to test this. I could also see myself using this on backpacking trips, though, the argument for taking this instead of a lightweight non-hybrid down jacket becomes murkier with the expectation of cooler, sedentary nights at camp. I like the idea of this jacket quite a bit. However, this jacket has some very serious flaws that keep me from recommending it. Arc’teryx often has excellent cuff design. The cuffs on this jacket are terrible. I have no idea how this made it through R&D to production. Reference my picture showing the amount of space around my wrists with the Cerium Hybrid compared to two other Arc’teryx jackets. There might as well not be any elastic in the cuffs in the first place because the holes are huge. This is straight-up poor design, which further compounds the next issue. The fit of this jacket baffles me. The sleeves are extremely long (See picture showing >2 inches longer than one of their other down jackets in the same size. For the record, I lined up the end of both jacket’s sleeves--the tape was unreadable if I kept everything in frame.), to the point that my palms are almost completely obscured. I requested a medium for review (based on the other jackets I own from the brand and which I am sadly unable to exchange), and I clearly need to size down to a small. While I typically wear medium in technical apparel, I am admittedly on the line between small and medium for this brand. I have a slim / runner’s build (5’9 and ~150lbs), and I find that Arc’teryx cuts their pieces for people with more muscle mass than me. That said, for a jacket intended as a slim-fitting active layer, it makes little sense that my medium cerium hybrid is significantly larger than other insultation pieces I have from the brand in the same size (reference comparative mirror pictures, you may notice that I am wearing the Cerium Hybrid *over* my Cerium LT in the picture). I find this jacket to be cut more like a shell or parka than a trim active layer. I will note that the two other Arc’teryx jackets I used for sizing comparison were made about 10 years ago, so perhaps this departure in fit is not recent / specific to this jacket. Regardless, I would absolutely not buy this jacket without trying it on in store first (or order multiple sizes to find the correct fit if online is the only option). Overall, this jacket left me disappointed, and the poor fit made testing the jacket as it is intended to be used challenging. As mentioned above, I think it has the potential to be an excellent piece of kit if you have the fit dialed in. However, Arc’teryx really needs to revisit the cuff design on this jacket. We know they can do better. They need to do better. I would personally wait to purchase until after an update addresses this problem. That said, a more niche product like this may not end up being renewed for next summer. If this is a design that truly speaks to you, it may be worth picking up if you can dial in the fit and are able to overlook the tragedy of cuff design. I love that Arc’teryx is up to make something weird and cool like this, but I think they stumbled getting the design across the finish line.

Great Technical Insulated Down Top - breathable

Live in Tucson, just went to Denver and had opportunity to try out jogging in local neighborhood morning temps upper 40's and jacket BREATHES and does not result in clammy down. Me: 61, 5'10" 185 lbs. a little bit of gut ("little? asks my wife..) and the jacket: the "Sprint" is a shade of the ubiquitous bright neon-yellow-green and is great for being visible whether on an alpine ridgeline or evening walk around the neighborhood. The jacket works not just for climbing but also if you go hiking with a day pack or back pack with a waist belt which would compress the insulation anyways - so having the insulation stop on the front above where a harness or waist belt would go is fine. There is no hemlock so I cannot speak to any issues wearing a climbing belt, however. The down is very high quality and while not copious (I think one of the comments in Spanish was answered by Support with approximately 1.5oz of down) it's well-mapped and optimal for high-intensity and insulating with down in a highly breathable jacket. There is the "hybrid" insulation (Coreloft) around wrists (sensible) and also above shoulders and right below chin on the hood. Yes, the zipper itself may be plastic but the zipper slider is metallic with a long plastic zipper handle that makes grabbing the zipper easy. It is a single zip not a double but it is in fact a locking zip meaning it does not come unzipped without deliberately pulling the zipper handle. I think this piece also works GREAT in a hoodless sleeping bag where other jackets might not breathe and become intolerable for wearing to sleep this piece does breathe extremely well and would work great. Conversely, however, wearing alone without any type of wind-shell or rain-shell sitting around on a blustery day on top of a peak would allow cold air to penetrate from outside so once you're at the top - or stationary - you are going to feel it so take a windshell at least to throw over this piece, and wear a long-sleeve baselayer i.e. Merino 175 or 200 to keep arms warm on the underside of the sleeves. There is a stuff sack included that is intelligently connected in reverse to the left inside pocket which means you won't lose it and also it is very easy to stuff the garment in the pocket very quickly and instantly hook on with one of the small loops on either end of the stuff sack. I paid full boat at REI (accepts returns) but have decided to keep it. I use hoodless sleeping bags and this piece does layer underneath my size large Beta LT (hadron) with no difficulty and very little restriction, even on my somewhat fleshy frame and slightly broad shoulders.

Great jacket especially for outdoor activity

Received free product

The Arcteryx Cerium Hybrid Down Hoodie is a versatile jacket that can be used for many different occasions; it however excels in outdoor activity specifically. Pros: - Very lightweight and packable - Material is flexible which makes movements unrestricted (important for any outdoor activity) - Insulated hood which keeps the face extremities warm - Jacket is overall warm for its weight - Breathability - there are very few jackets on the market that provides as much warmth while being this breathable - Pretty stylish as far as technical wear goes Cons: - Although warm for its weight, it's not warm enough if you're sitting at camp or cooled down from an activity. I would say I'd feel comfortable wearing this down to 35-40F so to me this is just a 3 season jacket - The insulation is non-existent in the sections where there's no down so you'll feel it especially if there's wind - Not a big fan of the plastic zipper especially as someone who is not as gentle on their gear as they should be

A nice surprise

Received free product

This jacket surprised me. I have been using an Arc'teryx down jacket as my winter go to for years now, so in many ways the Cerium Hybrid felt very familiar. The down portions are comforting and warm, and the quality is what you would expect from Arc'teryx. The permeable layer under the arms, down the sides, and around the waist were the surprise. I appreciated how they did open up my range of motion and kept those areas cooler than the rest of me. I don't know if it will replace my original Arc'teryx down jacket, but there is definitely a use case for this one and I will look forward to working it into rotation during the late fall and early spring.

Great Jacket for Cold Cardio

Received free product

Overall, great jacket. Perfect for cooler nights or early morning cardio. Haven't used in winter or sub freezing temps but holds up well in the 40's. Very breathable jacket but still maintains warmth. Sizing is perhaps a bit small. XL sleeves are true to size but torso seems snug. Very lightweight and packs down well. Have added to this year's summer backpacking kit and looking forward to fall runs and testing it's winter capabilities.

Light comfortable jacket

Received free product

I was excited to try out this jacket. I am always looking for a lightweight warm jacket as I am not a huge fan of bulky jackets. First impressions of the product; the color was black, pretty standard black but also a rich black not faded or light. Black is nice because it matches everything I would wear. The material feels very nice, smooth and light. The jacket fits true to size. I am a large and this large fit just perfect. I wouldnt want many base layers under this as that could get tight. The zippers slide seemlessly up and down. The pockets are nice and have hidden zippers. The one pocket has a removable drawstring bag that seems you could store the whole jacket in. when using the jacket the bag easily attaches again inside the pocket. The underside of the arms and down the sides have thinner material to help vent and keep you cool when sweating. Overall, the jacket is very nice and I would highly recommend it. Unfortunately, since it is summer, I have not been able to use it in the wild yet, but I imagine it will stand up just the say I would expect it to.

Cerium SL Replacement

The old Cerium SL is my most used and loved down piece from Arc’teryx, so I was super hesitant to believe this could be its replacement. However, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the upgraded fit and enhanced versatility offered by the hybrid construction. The jacket is stretchier and lighter in the right places, and still maintains just enough warmth for the right applications. For me, that’s been as an emergency safety down for long alpine runs, on days where I’m starting and finishing in the dark. It’s also been great for early season ski touring, and as a travel layer when flying between multiple climates. In short, it’s excellent. Though I believe the Cerium SL to be a touch warmer due to full insulation paneling, this jacket will replace it for all but the most specific applications.

Outstanding product

Wow this cerium hybrid hoody is going to be my next favorite thing. It fits perfect and is as light as air, and is insulated in all the right spots. It's a work of art. I am 6'1 and 178lbs and wear a medium.

Fits super slim and cheaply made

Bought an XL but can’t zip it up. I wear a large in Patagonia and OR but sized up because I have several other very slim fitting Arc’teryx pieces but this one is a weird fit. I’m athletic build and broad shoulders but this fit is super trim and the XL fits like a medium in the chest and stomach area. I literally tried to bring it back to the shop convinced I had bought the woman’s version but because I took the tags off, they wouldn’t refund. Also it is fairly cheap materials, crap zipper and overall more of a fashion piece for a very small build person than a functional outdoor jacket. Very disappointed.

Quality and clever, but needs improvement

Well constructed from quality materials. Likely much more durable than the Cerium SL I had intended to replace. Warm but airy. Quite warm with the hood up. Colors are awesome. Flexible apron around the waste makes sense on paper, but not flattering in reality. Wish the insulated panels extended the full length of the waste and back. Upper arm diameter is weirdly large. Arm length is quite long, and there’s no elastic cuff at the wrist. Can fold the wrists back, but that exacerbates the upper arm diameter. IMO too many compromises at this price. Hopefully a future design is better.
