Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

Very flexible and structurally sound continual integral design.(photos to compare with the LP7 hiker 2)the be-lenka ranger, 1 and 2 & sofstar and switchback, the Altra lone Peak hiker 2 could be more ergonomically, bio-mechanically-anatomically, correct with a more spacious forefoot oblique toe-box.(also in the mix of photographs. The LP5W and the Be-lenka Nevada in wheat color. My foot is normal or not wide. This boot is a decent upgrade, but they really need to come out with a wider or more anatomically oblique, 4foot and toebox, version if possible. Like a normal human healthy foot.:)
I was recommended these boots by the kind and very knowledgeable young lady at my local REI. I told her we were headed to Zion for the week and told her I needed something just as light as a trail runner and these were spot on. Friends of mine said I would get blisters or end up with some sort of boot rash since I didn’t break in my boots before my hike and tbh I really didn’t need to do that, these boots were the most comfortable and lightest while hiking all of the trails Zion had to offer and throughout the whole week these boots did me well and with out any sort of blisters or injury but of course everyone may have different experience with these boots but this was my experience with these boots definitely love these boots and would purchase them again
I was looking for some work boots that would be lightweight and able to handle a lot of miles as I walk a lot for my job. I like Altras but I never tried their boots. The 3 star rating because of the difficulty putting them on gave me an idea. I bought them and yes, they are hard to get on. then I purchased elastic no-tie shoelaces and LET ME TELL YOU we fixed it!! Easy on, easy off, pull tight and cinch. Get no tie elastic laces and these will be your number 1 pair of shoes/boots/flipflops/highheels.
I’m a woman who wears a 9.5 original Altra Lone Peak Hiker. I didn’t like the colorway of the women’s boot, so bought the men’s 8, which fits perfectly. The boot is heavier and more rigid than my old Lone Peak Hikers, with a higher ankle, but has the same wide toe box and good-gripping sole, and looks like its upper will hold up better. It is difficult to get on and off without loosening the laces way more than I usually have to, and the little piece of cord on the back of the boot is too low and too tight to be any help at all. I really miss my old Lone Peaks, but this is an attractive, serviceable replacement.
First and foremost, I schill a lot for Altra. I absolutely love them because I love the bigger toe box and the zero drop. These aren’t as wide in the toe area as the other 50 pairs I own but still have more than enough room. The support feels great and they seem true to size depending on the thickness of the socks you wear with them like all other boots. These are spot on in size with the other new Altra line peak boot they just released. If I had to compare to any other boot I’d say they remind me of my old Oakley boots that I wore while I was in service. You won’t be disappointed if you decide to buy these.
These boots are such an improvement from Altra’s first lone peak hiker. I’ve always loved my first boots, but they still felt like a trail-runner trying to be a boot. Not this new version. These feel like a true hiking boot built with the amazing Altra technology. Everything about the boot it much sturdier from the base to the snugness around the ankle. There is still a good amount of flex to them of course, but these make my feet and ankles feel much more secure. The sole cushion is fantastic. Super excited to log all the miles with these!
I keep buying these boots because they're very light and comfortable, but every iteration gets more annoying to me. These latest Hikers seem to have gotten narrower. My original hikers were the Lone Peak 3 (3.5?) waterproof: they weren't, but the wide toe box and light weight won me over. The Lone Peak 4s developed a popping sound in the sole shortly after I started using them. It was "pop, pop, pop" as I walked along. My latest pair, the Lone Peak Hiker 2 are VERY difficult to put on. It takes a good deal of effort to loosen up all the laces and get the tongue pulled back enough to get my foot inside, and still they pull and bunch up my Darn Tough socks. The wide toe box that I loved seems to be gone. Once they're on, they're pretty comfortable but I think it's time for me to look for a brand that has a design that works for me and keeps it consistent.
My first mid-top hiking shoe. Review after one 2 hr hike: + soft, good enough grip and support, light weight, zero drop, decent enough padding - heel-pulling-up loop a bit too low, not that well vented considering that it's not trying to be waterproof (when I took off the shoe I suddenly felt a breeze and evaporative cooling) Even though there are likely few boots that have the nice wide toebox like Altra, their shape is not quite right for me. The tips of my pinky and 4th toes barely touch the shoe, so I had to go up a half size. As a result, the shoe is a little bit on the loose side for overall fit.
Altra has narrowed their Lone Peak boots and trail runners and I am so sad and disappointed, I just wrote to their Headquarters to plead my case with them.
The Lone Peak Hiker 2s are the MOST comfortable hiking boot I've owned. That being said they are also the least durable boot I've owned. After only 6 months of use the sole of the left boot started to come apart. Over the course of a day the whole sole is demolished.
