Almost perfect except the pilling
I prefer no liner shorts and was excited to see these from Patagonia. Of the positives, these are the best shorts I've ever purchased. It is so good that I even bought a second pair in a different color. They look great and feel more comfortable for a wider range of physical activity as compared to the strider pro shorts 7" which I also own and use mainly for running. The trailfarer also has a decent sized back pocket which beats the strider pro's smaller back pocket. The reason why I cannot give a 5 star review however, is that in only about two months of alternating wear, the crotch area on both shorts has started to pill. The pilling isn't occurring anywhere else either. It doesn't affect my performance but for $65 it does cramp my style. The strider pro in contrast has not pilled at all and I've owned it for a couple years longer.
Perfect fit
I am usually between sizes in all brands. I have quads and a big rear that make pants and shorts hard to fit correctly. I finally found the right fit for my hiking needs. Bought two pairs and wore them both through 25 miles over the weekend. Not a single complaint. Most comfortable fit ever. No liner! Finally! More brands should offer this. The material is incredibly soft, not constricting. Allows for full range of motion. I have seen reviews about no pockets. Based on my experience as a hiker, not needed. Bought a 3rd pair upon returning home.
Perfect summer outdoor short!
These are great shorts. They are super lightweight and dry quickly. No side pockets, but it eliminates the changes that I jump off the boat with my phone in my pocket!

These are the best shorts ever for hot yoga. Tossing out my lulu, which by comprarrison are think and heavy. Need a jock strap. They are perfect in every single way.
NO LINER!!! YES!!
No liner need I say more! It is almost impossible to find a good pair of lightweight athletic shorts with no liner. I can wear my Ibex merino underwear with these and be content. They layer perfectly too, as they are super lightweight I can throw on a pair of the joggers or trail paints over them when conditions get cooler. And they pack down well.
Maybe my favorite shorts of all time
LOVE these. I’ve been using them as casual/lounge shorts, but I’ll use them for hiking as well at some point. They fit me perfectly (size small, 5’8”, 135). We all look for those reviews that say they love the product so much they bought another- that applies for me!
go-to trail running shorts
These are my go-to shorts for trail running. Great durable material that is very lightweight and dries fast. Super comfortable. They are unlined, but to me that's a plus. Unlined running shorts are hard to find. I have 4 pairs of these.
Very light and still strong
A very light and packable pair of shorts. A single pocket at the back and tie waist. These are a great pair for travel and light weight backpacking.
breeziest lightest shorts ever
Super light weight. Nice color combo, military green with orange logo. Mine didn't have a liner and I don't care do it. Pockets would have been nice. My go for gym and road runs.
