one of my favorites so far
I waited to write this until I had a few runs in them. I LOVE them! Folks…these are running shoes. (Read some strange reviews…) I’ve been running in Clifton’s for years now and these may be my favorite version so far. They’re lighter while feeling more cushioned for me. I have a very high arch and the support in these is impressive!

Change for the worse — midfoot too narrow!
SO disappointed with the fit of the Clifton 9 Wide. Too narrow in the midfoot area — I’ll be returning them. HOKA — please go back to previous/roomier dimensions. And next time, do NOT try to fix what’s not broken!

Same Model Name Different Support within 6 months!

I bought a pair of Clifton 9 Hoka shoes in May of 2023; I loved them, super comfortable... I bought a second pair of Clifton 9's in black because of the comfort and because the first pair was the light blue and orange and they kept getting dirty. Well the second pair sends a pain through my body. I'm flat footed and was told these were the shoes for me! I called Hoka and was told the arch support was change during the the time I bought the first pair and the second. I was told that I could send the shoes to Hoka and they would let me know if I qualified for a refund or partial refund. Hoka should change the model number if they are changing the arch support...

POOR QUALITY AND AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE

If I could I would’ve left zero stars. First of all, the quality of the shoe is extremely poor. Less than a month after I bought the shoes, they began to rip and the soles began to break. I literally just wore them to school. I did not run or hike in them. Second of all, after being dissatisfied with the product, I called REI to discuss a return. They encouraged me to return at a store. I went to REI Fenway and experienced the worst customer service ever. The employees were extremely rude and nasty that they made me cry. They did not let me return even though I had proof I bought them a month ago. Additionally they completely contradicted the person I spoke to online. I will no longer be shopping from REI and am extremely disappointed since I was very loyal to them before.

Bad New Design - Digs into the Ankles

As others stated- the new style is extremely uncomfortable- the shoe digs into my ankles, even without tying the shoe. I’ve owned Clifton’s for the past 4 years, so I purchased the 9s online without trying them on. I’ll be returning them. I was hoping I could break them in, but they are so uncomfortable on my ankles it’s almost impossible to wear them for more than a few minutes. I coach track 2 hours a day, 5 days a week and I’m so disappointed by this new style. My old Clifton’s are broken down but I’ll be wearing those until I find something else. Bad design. Go back to the original style- what it was made for!

Warranty lie

I purchased my Hoka Clifton 9 in November 2024 at HOKA online, and according to their website, the shoes come with a 1-year warranty. Unfortunately, that promise doesn’t seem to hold true. By June 2025, the rubber sole was already peeling off, despite the fact that I only used the shoes indoors—mostly for walking and light treadmill use. I paid $16 out of pocket to ship the defective pair back, only to have them returned to me with a denial notice, stating I hadn’t provided proof of purchase. When I followed up with customer service, they then changed the reason to "wear and tear." Let me be clear: - The shoes were never used outdoors. - They were clean, with only minor scuffing from normal indoor use. - I do have proof of purchase and offered to send it. - No one from customer service has responded to my follow-up email. This whole experience has been frustrating and disappointing. I expected better from a brand that claims to stand behind its products. Sadly, I won’t be buying Hoka again.

Ugh! I didn't want to love these but I do....

Hola are new to the market but they are new to me... I am not a runner but I do walk 5-8 miles per day sometimes more and I've been having some intense low back pain which lead me to researching the HOKA brand. I was looking at the Bondi originally but found these onsite so I ordered them knowing I could return them if I didn't like them. Upon opening the box I was immediately enamored. Online the color I ordered looked a little odd but I have to admit I LOVE them. When I put the shoe on. it looked big initially but fit perfectly. Then I took my first step and the rest is history. I am IN LOVE and I've already ordered a second pair. Do yourself a favor and look past appearance of this show and give your body the comfort and support it deserves.

Not the Best Fit compared to prior models

This is the third pair of Hoka shoes my wife has owned. As colorful and attractive as this particular model is, it was not a comfortable shoe for her. As seniors we do quite a bit of walking rather than jogging or running. She finds the shoe to be too firm and less flexible than she would prefer. We look to return the product for a “better fit.” The terrain is typically flat and the miles are usually 2-3 per day.

Comfy but didn't last long

I actually like these shoes. I've been wearing them for work and they are very comfortable and keep my feet from hurting. BUT it hasn't even been 2 months and the rubber pieces are coming off the sole. Very disappointing. I've never had that happen with tennis shoes for atleast a year or more.

Clifton9

So far I am very pleased with these shoes. I have been wearing the Bondi 8. These shoes seem to give me more support. Love the color.

Spend the extra $25 and get the Hoka Bondi instead

Having greatly enjoyed and worn out my Hoka Bondi's, it was time for new shoes. Hoka Clifton seemed very similar but at a lower price. What a mistake! I didn't catch on immediately, but figured out after a bit that the hip and knee pain which seemed to have come out of nowhere, actually occurred each time I wore these shoes and would go away if I didn't wear them for a day or two. The shoes make your feet lean in such a way that your knees are brought closer together. Wish I had figured it out sooner! New Hoka Bondi's have been ordered and the Cliftons are going into the trash.
