Great Ventilation / Comfort - Easy to always wear
These goggles are much better than my previous pair and I really like them. For me, the best thing was the great ventilation. I had a close call a little while back in a wreck, where my helmet smashed the frame of my sunglasses into my face and cut me dangerously to my eye requiring stitches. After that, I decided to always wear goggles on a mountain bike trail but they are always so hot that it wasnt comfortable. When I received these and was able to try them the improvement was immediately noticeable and this is going to make it much more enjoyable to wear them all the time. I think thats important because the safety equipment cant help you if you dont have it on. I spent a whole weekend wearing these on a mixture of cross country and enduro trails with a decent amount of uphill and they were great on every trail. Comfortable and they didnt fog up!!! A couple of other nice features. They fit really well with a Smith Mainline helmet and they come with clear and dark color lenses. The goggles fit perfectly with that helmet and stayed in place all day. It even got to the point where I didnt think to take them off when I stopped for a break.
Well ventilated, bonus clear lens, great price
What I loved: 1. CLARITY of the lens and NO FOGGING - better than expected, worked very well in bright sunlight and with varying degrees of cloud cover. The bonus clear lens was great to have on overcast days for added protection on dusty trails with loose dirt and gravel 2. VERSATILITY - Easy to wear with multiple helmets, did not seem to be fastidious about needing any specific helmet to work best with, was found to be somewhat forgiving to use with the 2 helmets I tried this with 3. Excellent PRICE point - did not expect this quality at this price point This was a definite welcome surprise. I may have had a few more criticisms had the price been higher though. Cons: 1. Reflections when used without a full face helmet I know these are meant to be used with a full face helmet but I much prefer not doing that in the heat At times, I noticed a reflection inside if you wear this with a regular mountain bike helmet as opposed to a full face helmet - this happens with overhead light getting in from the vent on top and sometimes reflecting off the inside of the lens at certain angles - but this is a minor gripe since it would not affect you if you use a full face helmet. 2. Hot swappable lens can be slightly harder to switch quickly when outdoor - though I suspect this is more on me as I have not done this prior
For the price,
For the price, these are hard to beat. I used them with both a full face helmet, a half shell helmet, and, for a bonus, my wife even tried them out (see photos). They breath well and integrate well with our helmets (all Smith). The only "con" is that the lenses are a bit hard to swap, but at the price point, its hard to knock Smith too much (their magnetic lenses obviously add cost). I find them to be great when you don't necessarily want a full face but you are on dusty trails where sunglasses may not work well. They would be a great option to have in your vehicle so you have one more option when hitting the trails.
Can't accommodate glasses and a poor a poor fit
I received this product for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I was really excited about these goggles. They are well made, lightweight and come with a clear and a dark lens. However, I can't provide a positive review for two key reasons. First these goggles will not accommodate prescription glasses. Even my close fit Oakley's will not fit under the goggles. Second, Smith states these goggles are designed for ultimate integration with Smith helmets. I ride with a Smith Forefront and I love this helmet. But, it does not integrate well with the Loam goggles. The front brow of the helmet presses down on the top of the goggles making for an awkward fit as well as covering a large portion of the top vents. The back of the helmet and the helmet straps also prevent the goggle straps from resting in a comfortable location. Basically, the straps would have to sit over my ears. A great concept, but I can't recommend based on the fit issues. Definitely try them on first to confirm they will work for you and are compatible with your gear.
amazing googles for bigger heads
I love everything about these googles except for the fit- amazing vision whether it's super bright CO sun or blowing dust clouds with storms rolling in. They breathe pretty well and are overall an asset to my ride. The downside is the fit- I'm a smaller woman, and these goggles are large for my face. The frames extend to the middle of my nose instead of stopping at the top like my ski goggles do. When I ride, this extra pressure makes it a little harder to breathe and is slightly uncomfortable. By my second test ride, I was noticing the discomfort a bit less, so I think that I will be able to get used to it in exchange for the amazing lens quality. I use the Smith Bobcats as my riding glasses, so if you're bobcat sized versus wildcat size in the glasses, I would hesitate a bit on size with these googles. Strongly recommend to anyone with a slightly larger head than mine.
LEGIT — BUT NOT TOTALLY IMPRESSED!
These goggles aren’t what I would say, is true quality craftsmanship. More like China made. But certainly, an excellent fit, great color and lenses! I’m pleased enough with this purchase! mostly because I got them on sale.
